First International Skateboard Pro Bowl in 1978
It's no secret that California has cornered the market on skateboard enthusiasts. On March 19, 1978, they turned out in force for the first ever International Skateboard Association Pro Bowl series. Two local men captured first place in the doubles tournament in a field of 40 competitors statewide. They're Steve Cathey of Spring Valley and Layne Oaks of Clairemont.

Spring Valley, Ca! SKATEBOARD HEAVEN SKATEPARK! Thank you for sharing this history.
Would you have more video footage from this contest?
Me my brother and are two buddies Mike and Paul pomiceter went to the movies and saw" skateboard"was playing at movie theater rite next door walking home we stumbled upon contest
Plus: Historic footage of one of the iconic 1970s skateparks. Minus: The sketchy framing and unfortunate zoom-ins that make it hard to identify some of the riders. Overall: Worthwhile, but leaves me wondering what got left on the cutting room floor and wishing for what might have been.
