Primo and Diane are professional DJs now. They live in San Diego and used to be neighbors with my Aunt Tessie in Mira Mesa. They had a huge half pipe in their backyard back then. One of the most to earth coolest people Ive ever met.

He DJ’ed my wedding in 2005. When he started skateboarding on the dance floor, everyone just stopped what they were doing and watched. They absolutely loved his performance! He is going to DJ my BIL’s wedding next year.

Oh so that's where the word Primo comes from! Something to remember when I fall on my ass catching the side of my skateboard.

Primo performed at my junior high in Orange County in the mid-1980s. Always remembered him because of his special talent.

Without his pioneering work, it would have had to have been called the 'Mutt-slide'. :)

Well it's actually not called a primo slide, it's called a rusty slide. Primo slide actually came from the Tony hawk games, as did a lot of stupid names for tricks that aren't the original names, such as hospital flip, smh. Rodney has always called it a rusty slide cause In the free style world its a primo stall or rail stall, but when you go to slide it its a completely different thing cause you're taking it from stationary to a ledge, same thing with 50-50's. On transiston it's a an axle stall, untill people started grinding them, they didn't called them axle stall grinds, they changed the name cause it's a whole new trick when you start grinding or sliding, same thing with kickflips, they started off with the whole stationary, free style thing, called magic flips, until Rodney mullen started doing them rolling then he changed the name to kickflip.

@@pressureflipin1992 interesting theory, my (obviously young) friend lol. Any insights as to where the insipid 'tres' flip came in, as opposed to '360 backside kickflip varial'? ('tres' makes it seem like the trick was invented by a member of Green Day; let's not get into why that's a problem lol.).

@@pressureflipin1992 However, if you want, I can point you to the 80's Thrasher item where Primo first shows off his new trick. The caption reads (...which can only be called the 'primo' slide...) It's in either an '87 or '88 issue. :) peace son

@@rebusd yeah I have that thrasher laying around some where. What he's doing is rolling on the very edge of his wheels, what Rodney did was an actually slide on the side of the wheels. Tre in French is three so some genius though it was cool to call them tre flips, cause people used to call them three flips, dumb as all hell, it's a 360 flip. I've been skating since the mid 90s and that didnt come around till the early 2000s

@@pressureflipin1992 FWIW, I started skating in mid-late 1986; I have here a link to my very first sighting of a primo slide (I was off by at least one year, turns out it was May 88): www.thrashermagazine.com/images/image/Features/2009/1988/8805/800t/8805p48-p49.jpg To me that looks like a combination wheel/board edge slide; I'm not seeing the same difference you refer to in your comment (ie the rolling); we could be referring to two completely distinct photos. I'll check the Mullen footy to see if this 'rusty' slide of yours has the board closer to the toes, but I know the first place I saw "primo", and, as you can see from the caption in my link, it sure as heck wasn't THPS. P.S. I missed the whole "three-flip" period, so without digging into over a decade and a half worth of back issues, I'll have to take your word for it. I use 360 flip myself as well, even though as we both know, the term can correctly be applied to any of (at least) four different flip tricks. Cheers bud.
