Thank you so much for uplaoding this! Hope this blows up and people can truly appreciate how much better Rodney was than his competition at this age, maybe you need to upload second place so people can see the difference haha.

@Svedo Per Welinder got 2nd place at this contest. And he had beaten Rodney in one contest a couple of years earlier. There were a lot of very accomplished freestyle skaters in that era. Just because Rodney won the most contests doesn't mean that there weren't other amazing skaters. You can see some of Per Welinder's run at about 17 min in this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/i5qt09ZxgNvPh7g.html

@@80sFreestyle Thanks for the reply. I certainly didn't mean to sound disrespectful to other skaters. I watchedr Per in that short clip and it was very impressive, I was a little surprised. Though there's still a clear difference, even just in how clean/polished the tricks were, also how old was Rodney when he lost to Per? I imagine quite young.

@@Blankp1anet Welinder beat Mullen for first place in 1983. So Rodney would have been around 17.

I think most will fail to realize how difficult it was to do that routine on board with no concave, and tiny tail. Forget that though, Rodney was one of the few guys who started skating. Long live the king, and our blond bangs!

People knowing who Tony Hawk is but not Rodney Mullins, it’s like people knowing about Steph Curry and not Micheal Jordan. It’s a travesty.
