Finding your unique talent | Video Archive | Barry Long

How do I find my unique talent? To find that fulfilling job we should start looking at what we already enjoy doing, perhaps a hobby and pursue that as a job.
Barry Long was a spiritual teacher who taught internationally from the 1980's up until his death in 2003. His spiritual teaching is grounded in practicality and addresses all aspects of modern day life.

It’s a interesting question. How can you be so sure though that you are not good at anything? Surely, we are all relatively better at something than somebody else. Perhaps, as someone else said, look at what gives you joy and a sense of joy or inspiration. I know there is something. Believe me, I’m the least talented person in my family, but even I’ve found what I really enjoy - writing. I’m not sure if I’m good at it, but writing and reading my works gives me tremendous fulfillment. I’m like you - I don’t “feel” good at anything. But I write anyways.

Are you sure that's really true that you're not good at anything? Instead of trying to think about that, perhaps just still the mind, and let the answer come. It may not come immediately, or it might, or it might dawn on you over a number of days, perhaps.

Journal write each day for 28 days and answer these questions? What part of my day energized me? What part of my day drsined me? What brought a smile to my heart, today? You can discover yourself through journaling.

Does anyone with a unique talent he enjoys and can make a living from really need such advice ? If one has a genuinely unique talent, say to make knots into cherry twigs in their mouth, can you just assume he can make a living on that, as if society wouldn't despise almost all of the really unique talents ? But dropping the condition of uniqueness, some people are really good at killing and lying to make a career. They also enjoy it. They may not think of themselves as killers if they work for a bank, but they arguably are. Many women are really good at using men and getting them to sustain them. These types also enjoy that and some have sufficient "natural qualities", let's put it that way, to pull it off, even using the above sociopaths who kill to get that woman. Is that then an indication that all these should follow their talents ? Ok, they are not unique because that is how _most_ of the people make a living, and don't get me started because a New Zealand study years ago has proven how society works, as if we hadn't known all along.

You need to start from a place of love within before you can even begin to put what is being said into the correct context. What you acknowledge you get. The more you "confirm" to yourself how corrupt the world is, the more you attract that energy to yourself, and the more that becomes your reality. To shift energy, how about starting to acknowledge the good? There is always something to be grateful for. You have to start somewhere. Another way to shift your energy is to start to give, without looking for anything in return.

@@michaeltsung9741 It's obvious that 1. you're not good at reading and therefore completely missing the point, 2. therefore very good at projection your shadow into me and 3. trolling for "law of attraction" type new age garbage. I wish you good luck :)
