I have never seen someone that is more positive in general yet so self accountable and just darned honest. I'd fly with this guy any day of the week
My husband is a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines. They have been the best employers and we love being a part of the family. 💙❤️💛

As a little kid growing up in Dallas….I remember when the flight attendants wore hot pants,….love field…..most pilots they hired then were naval pilots,and Herb Kellerher,was an awesome ceo…miss those old 737-200s,flying over Bachman lake.
Thank you Ern! I did fail my first PPL checkride too. I was devastated but I recovered and became a better pilot for the many years I flew later (until I was medically grounded due to diabetes.) Never give up, folks!

@@davidhood2200 I am also type one but not a pilot. I did want to be a airline pilot but I guess the advancements in treatment makes it possiblile. Even on a Q&A Capt. Dave said you can fly for the airlines now.. It was on one of EM's videos.
I wish your company allowed recordings during take off, cruise, descent, and landings. Explanations of the Cost Index and how it's calculated in the FMC.

They dont allow it because I do think it is an FAA FAR rule. I saw a video and the pilot said that so I am not sure but it does make sense sterile Flight deck.

Great video Ern! Really fascinating to learn about your foggy weather ops. I'm definitely tired of that tule fog here in Sacramento, IFR ceilings keeping me on the ground unfortunately!

Hey Big Ern! Found your channel a while ago and have been working my way through your videos. I actually just made it through the assessment phase in applying for D225 and I have your channel on my left monitor while I am working on interview prep!! Bob is my father-in-law. I always wondered whether or not you two had met, I have to admit I became quite emotional when I heard you talk about him near the end of the video. The first thing I did was check the post date of your video, and boom. Nov 21, 2021, a day that we will never forget. Love your work so much, thank you for everything you do, and I can't wait to shake your hand in real life one day as an FO!! Please reach out if you'd like to talk. Be safe out there, and much LUV!

I find the Q&A session awesome when you and the captain answer the questions; it provides a neat perspective! Also, being PHX based, how often do you fly to the east coast, such as the northeast? Have you ever flown into BDL in Connecticut?

It is weird because a couple days ago at my old home GA airport there was a controlled crash were from looking at the video, the landing gear didn't deploy and they landed with no gear. Entire county fire and police was their. The airport was Thun field in Washington state, Peirce county
Can we see the lcd features on the max next time like what setting you like to have it on?
You should definitely film more with flight attendents/other crew!
Beautiful video 🙏🌹👍👌👏💕
Hey Ern, when do you start flying to PHNL or PHOG - I see departures from PHX now - anxious to see one of those w ETOPs planning thx
I skated through all of my check rides until my CFI. I studied my ass off, too. I just got too caught up in the moment and was having stuff thrown at me. Put the wrong pedal in for a slip and bam. Game over boys. The only part I'd complain about was the DPE didn't let me know I had failed until the end of a daunting 8 hour checkride. I wasn't upset. I failed and deserved to fail and I was a better pilot because of it. Honestly, I wish it had happened sooner to wake my ass up. I grew up around planes and my PPL was a formality for the most part. I'd argue that guys that had to prod, push, and pull teeth are just as good if not better pilots than "naturals". They've had to work for it.

Big Ern, big Ernnnn. Bro, you are going to Mars with your current trajectory. Just don't forget the little people when you get there. Man, you are so humble. I bet you're a hell of a good pilot, but just don't flaunt it like some do. You give credit where credit is due even if you deserve just as much. I love your fade haircut (high and tight for our military personnel out there) too. Brother, you are the definition of "doing it". Love your videos and hope to meet you some day on a SW flight. Hey Ern literally just got off a Max from ATL to BWI via Sarasota. Maybe you can confirm but are the landing gear retraction and extension quieter on the max then the NGs??? Man the more I fly on it the more I really like the Max. Its sooo much quieter then the NGs and seems like it flies smoother too!!!
@FlyingwithBigErn
2 жыл бұрын
I have the same opinion too! I think it’s just a quieter plane inside. Add the Leap engines and it’s a great machine👍🏽
I wanted to be a pilot from a very early age,I lived near an airport, and when I could buy a toy or get a present it was a plane. I started flying at age 16 out of a crop-duster strip in a rural area in a 140, showed up one day the plane and the pilot were gone! I joined the Air Force in hopes that would help me get my flying career started, that wasn't the best way to get started either! I continued flying even though the odds were not in my favor at this point, but I don't give up easily.The thing that really matters most I found out is, you really need people that support what you want to do, especially becoming a pilot, it's not cheap and it's not all that easy! I did finally call it quits about 20 years ago when the reality set in that I just didn't have the time to make it happen plus I'd be taking a pay cut from my current job, it was hard but I had no option and getting older didn't help, sometimes I'm kind of glad it didn't happen when I look at pilot life, and I've had conversations with career pilots that are very disgruntled, I know there are also pilots that are very happy with their career choices.I could have done it for maybe 20 years and then I probably would have needed a change LOL. I still look up to the sky when a commercial aircraft is coming in and wonder what it would've been like and I get a feeling of sadness and relief at the same time almost, I'd still rather regret something I did than didn't do in a way(Commercial Pilot)that is. I tried getting my kids into aviation but they have no interest in flying! It's great to see you and other pilots loving what you do, love that Cirrus flying as well.Take care Airman!
@FlyingwithBigErn

Thanks for sharing your story👍🏽. Did you get your PPL? If not that would be a great way to scratch that flying bug. Being a commercial airline pilot is definitely not for everyone. It comes with some pretty big sacrifices (being away from family is mine), but I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. I still love putting on my uniform and serving my customers. Especially during the holiday season. I’m privileged to see the joy of reuniting family’s as I leave the airport and that’s pretty cool to me. Cheers my friend👍🏽
Thank you for sharing truly words that made a difference to knowing that we never know what and when our day may come and to putting our Hearts together and family to trust in God in our every day life

Hey Ern, I want to go down the military route also, I was in AFROTC as my college but decided to not continue it, but now I want to pursue the military again. Did you go through OTS or ROTC to go to the air national guard to fly? Does is also work the same as the Air Force, like you have to be an officer to fly? Thanks
@FlyingwithBigErn
2 жыл бұрын
Hey Boqxx, yes you have to be an officer to fly in the Air Force. I went through ROTC but the commissioning source is irrelevant, the prize is that pilot slot. Check out all avenues (ANG, Reserves, Active Duty) and for all services. There is one out there for you my friend. Just keep hustling and don’t take no for an answer. You’ll get there. Cheers and best of luck!👍🏽
I know you're a professional Ern, but you gotta have a talk with some of your fellow WN pilots about their behavior on Guard.
As far as failing a checkride I think you could end up this a bad DPE. I was told I could not look up something in the FAR/AIM. I told the local fsdo and they were shocked. His ego wouldn't fit into a cargo 747.
👍🏻
Photobombed by the lady eating in the mirror! 😆 😂 😆
