Allow me to first emphasize how thankful I am to have been included in the development of the TFDI MD-11 as a Quality Assurance Team member (read; unpaid intern!). I love this organization, and I have nothing but respect for their incredible development team. Oh, the product also rocks, and will get better and better with each passing revision. I have no doubt.
I have been waiting so long for the PMDG 777 and the TFDi MD-11 to make it to MSFS. I flew the PMDG 777 a lot on P3D, and I am part of the TFDi Quality Assurance team, so my dreams are coming true! Both of these airplanes are incredible, and both are "buy now" add-ons in my opinion.
I went over to P3D for the PMDG 777 as I was a real 777 Captain, and flying several aircraft on MSFS was affecting my job performance. On the other hand, flying the 777 on P3D actually helped me at work. No rap on P3D, as I really loved the honesty and performance accuracy of the study level PMDG 777. However, I am trying to build a following, and MSFS is by far the most followed, so I switched over to MSFS when I retired.
I am a 1958 vintage pilot with over 21,000 flight hours. I currently reside in Connecticut. I am a 1980 US Air Force Academy graduate and a seven-year Air Force instructor pilot. I have flown for a major US Airline since 1987 and I retired in September of 2023. I have been type-rated in the MD-80, B-737, B-757, B-767, B-777, A-300-600 and the MD-11. I am a recently retired (9/6/23) 777 Captain.
I have traveled the world and I have come to the conclusion that there is no place like home. It's been a great ride. I am very new to the MSFS and P3D world and I love it. Please feel welcome to offer any advice that you deem helpful.

Yes, I remember that one well too. I was 17 at the time. A friend of mine went to school with the Captain‘s daughter. What a tragedy, especially given the fact that the likely culprit was the newly installed inflight entertainment system. While some say that SR111 was the beginning of the end for Swissair, their crisis management and communications in my view was one of their finest hours.

Yes and no. I wish that the SPD, HDG and ALT windows were NOT a mouse-scroll, but instead the standard MSFS hover, click and hold. However, the real MD-11’s push to hold what you got and pull to select speed, heading select or FL CHG is impossible to do any other way than they are doing it where you hover and find the up-arrow for push or the down arrow to pull. Your add-on panels such as Logitech multi or comm panels will all work.

Figured I have to leave a comment here as well, as there are questions regarding the TFDi module. Have they done the same mistake with the throttles as Rotate did? If you push your at home throttles to 100% it goes past the overboost bar and triggers that and its associated flurry of warnings, or is that one reserved for a button? Number 2, do they feature the PW4462 engines? These were the most powerful engines you could get on the MD-11 with 62000 pounds of thrust per engine compared to 60000 for the GEs. Do you get the GPS / GNS equipped variant for navigation? Usually identified by the changed standby instruments in the cockpit, rather than the 2 old school steam gauges, it is replaced by one gauge similar to the standby altimeter / Artificial Horizon that you find in the Boeing 777. Nice flight, even though the landing was a bit squirmy compared to how you flew the 777, seems like either the weather or the simism habbits are starting to catch up! I guess I feel less bad now though.

@@FatherTime1958 Thanks for replying! About the ALT knob, how can I select 100 ft increaments and then back to 1000/500 ft increament?

@@haseenahmad7638 Altitude select knob. One detent is “slow mode” and it move the altitude in 500 foot increments from 10,000 feet and above. One detent is “slow mode” below 10,000, and it moves the altitude in 100 foot increments. If you select “BARO” on the minimums, not RA, you can then manipulate the altitude knob on the FCP theoretically in one foot increments! I’ll have to double check to see if this is modeled.

Super choppy video. What video card are you using? Did they improve the FPS for the final product?

It was my PC, not the product. I did a few things to help yesterday, and today’s flight was way better. I have another thing I’ll be trying tomorrow. Please feel free to offer any tips or tricks.

@@FatherTime1958 your 3080 and 5800x should be more than fine to get 60fps constant with frame gen mod sir. I would suggest trying that.

Great Masterclass thanks very much, the MD-11 & 777 all look great. Are you able to tweak your game settings for less laf & boost fps at all? I struggle with me old rtx 980 but on some med settings still can use the sim for 20-25fps but really need some new tech to enjoy all the good planes, and stuff now in the sim. Thanks for showcase. ❤

I recommend flying in Canada and Alaska when your PC is slowly getting older. Fluid as a river of clear Alaskan water is flying up there, no matter what DLC airport I chose - while most bigger American DLC airports have 15 FPS on my computer. The performance of the Flight Sim 2020 fully depends on the scenery, not on the plane. :)

I think the MD-11 had long since been beaten in the long haul market by the twins by the time Boeing bought them. I lived it at AAL.
