Taking the Boeing 737 in the Pattern and CAT III Approach 737
This week i'm in the Full Motion Sim. We are live in the 737 this week while at sim training. Come along and see what a landing and a CAT III approach looks like in a Boeing 737!
Hope you all enjoy it. Cheers!

I’ve never flown a 737 but I can only imagine how accurate these sims gets just from sound and visuals alone as well as the movement it’s so accurate
Ernie, you are the best in the business! You never fail to enlighten. You’re technical knowledge and the ability to illustrate, is remarkable. Excellent work, Captain.
Thanks to those that helped you film this as well to be able to get us content like this. Looks like a great airline to work for.
I had a chance to do about 1.5 in an older 737-200 sim a couple of years ago, doing mainly approaches and landings. The airplane is actually easier to land than a light airplane, although roll control is a lot different. Lots more weight on those wings than in a GA airplane. The sim is just a lot of fun. If I had that sim in my basement, I’d be like a cat with a cardboard box.....I could amuse myself all day!

I agree fully with your experience...similar to a 172 say but when you start yanking and banking you feel the weight of it..
awesome
Amen about being good seat support and doing your best to be prepared. Great job!
Congratulations on the training and thanks for taking us along with you!
Congratulations Captain!!!
So cool and stay in focus
Thanks Captain for bringing us along on your training. Always enjoy your videos!
Cool! Thanks for sharing!
Really neat to see all the work that you folks are doing up front
I was literally just there this past Thursday and got the opportunity to fly in sim number 15. I’m 17 and am so thankful for the opportunity and the invitation by Southwest to do that! Totally awesome facility and top notch training.

Thank you for this. It is a shame that we geeks cannot observe you actually flying. Don't they realize what a PR plus that would be? I can watch you in a G5 but not a 737. Ah, well...
So glad to see your opportunity to promote coming to fruition. Congratulations; and a sincere thanks to all the other folks that basically 'played along' on your behalf to create this video.... thank you.
Darn good ! thank you.
So cool. Thank you!
That was fun! That sim was so realistic! Thanks for sharing it with us!
Beautiful! Looking forward to more as you advance.
Best of luck with the rest of your training and CTL. Really enjoy your videos. Thanks for taking the time to put them together.
Congrats on your achievements!!!
So impressive sir, congratulations and thank you so much for showing us the sim, that was amazing, thank you so much for sharing !!!!
Thank you, Ernie, for another outstanding video. You are performing a much-needed service mentoring the future of commercial aviation through your camera lens along with great tips from a seasoned aviator. These videos are actually good for the general public so they can appreciate the training pilots receive and what actually goes on in the cockpit once the door is closed and the plane is moving.
Great educational insight upload BIG ERN! Congrats on receiving your 4 stripes!
Congratulations on making captain
Terrific!
Amazing!!
The graphics in the sim are pretty stellar. Really amazing technology that's all in the name of safety. Love to see it. Thanks for sharing Ernie! Keep em coming.
This was a great video! Thanks
Thank you for this video Big Ern! More of these whenever possible would be soo nice 🤝
Thank you for this video! As a flight attendant it is a great to see what is happening as we descend and I can hear from the jump seat the countdown to landing.
As a fellow vet I'm glad to see you pushing yourself to the next level and not settling. Keep up the good work and look forward to the next video with the new stripe
Thanks for sharing.
That was Awesome!!! How wonderful of SW to allow you to do videos of all of behind-the-scenes stuff that people have no idea about. I had an idea about some of it, but oh my, I learned a lot. Thanks Ern!!
Thank you for sharing your time there in the Sim Training. Yes, it was nice seeing the flight information images in your heads-up display there. Well, again, congrats on becoming Captain!!!
Ernie, you made it look easy! Good job!
This is by far, the coolest video on KZread. Thanks for sharing Big Ern
Congrats Ernie! I’ve been following you since about 6k subscribers, awesome to see how far you’ve come!
BigErn.... you are truly a officer and gentleman. All the best to you.!!
That was awesome! Thanks for letting us tag along
Love that you can hear the ambient cockpit sounds and engine noises. If I closed my eyes I’d think you were in the real thing!
This is so in depth love the content!
Great insight, video, and more importantly a super new Captain at SW. Well done, Captain.
This was an OUTSTANDING video Big Ernie!! You answered several of my 738 sim flying questions and showed us all the ropes on successful landings and flows! THANK YOU!
Congrats Captain Ern, well done!
That was amazing flying Ernie. Thank you so much for sharing this
That’s what a pro looks like- so smooth, so clean even in a sim! Landing these things almost goes against instincts. Everything tells you to pull up as that runway just floods your windscreen! It’s more exhilarating than take off in my opinion great job. This was so neat to see!
Congrats Big Ern! Love the sim footage!
Wow. I’m super impressed with your sim. Thank you 🙏 so much!
That was really cool!
That was so much fun watching you. Back in the 90’s I was a Microsoft fltsim guy for years and I was given the opportunity to get in a real flight sim at Flight Safety and did the left seat of a Lear jet. It was the most exciting experience I ever had!
Just awesome, Thanks for sharing and Congrats !
10/10 great video! Thanks Ernie
Loved it and can not wait to see the first video as a captain
Such a cool video!
Great video!! Thank you for putting it together!

great landings captain.
That was awesome Ern!!!!
The graphics are amazing
Amazing video, keep the good work up with your training, thanks for having time to show us…
Fantastic!!!
Appreciate the opportunity to fly with you... quite different than 40+ years ago, lol. Glad to see many of those upgrades/ changes that were implemented, all in the idea of safety! About 50 years ago, sitting at Cherry Point doing GCA/ASR approaches. It was great when those guys depending on you to land, got down safely and you heard, thanks! ILS was just an idea. Back then learning to control, we walked the airfield classroom with a ~3 ' stick, it had a aircraft on a string tied to it. That was our simulation flying around a airfield... radar wasn't too much better, LOL! It was so modern, I got my pictures posted into the Leatherneck magazine. But, as a elite group, we ALL made it happen; no matter your placement or seat! Aviation is a great lifestyle of perfection in control at all time! Now, my excitement is airtime,as a paying customer from GSO to NNG. From NC to Guangxi always delightful. While in Nanning or south of pilot mountain, NC it's a true pleasure, watching it all coming together! Congratulations and looking forward to many more post! Have a great day!
Awesome!
Captain Ern making those landings look easy!! Cool stuff! Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to more captain vlogs
Well that was just great big ern. Congratulations on your upgrade. Very impressed!!
I'm not a pilot but an aviation fan, and I love your videos
Congratulations Captain😉. This was a very good presentation of how a consummate professional handles his work.👍
Thx to you and Southwest for Sim Time....all the training, alienautics, FMS'S ect, and what does it come down to? FLY THE PLANE...airspeed and basics.. So much helps if you got proper basic training and a good attitude! Those basics are what keeps you alive
Thank You!! Really....I have done a few hours in the 400 and the 800 ...very interesting and insightful...you're a great teacher...
Great information, thanks for the insight!
This was awesome. Love the detail you give in these videos. FOs will learn lots from you fast. Thx for sharing this brotha.

Thank you for this Ern!!! So cool to see. I have been wanting to get in a sim and actually have my hand at flying. Wish I had known when you were in town. Next time!

Hey, thanks!
Thank you for your awesome videos. I had a buddy that went through training and stop 3/4 the way through flight school and stop when he found out at the age of 50 years old he wouldn’t get hired by the airline due to his age. Very disappointed he was and went to work for the railroad and is now an engineer. Congratulations on making captain!
Enjoyed watching you in the Captains seat & seeing you again in your element.May you have many, many happy years.
Love it. Become a pilot, travel the world!
Thanks for the flights. Know that you will ace everything!

AWESOME VID!!!!!!!!
Love your videos 📹❤
Impressive!!!
Role model material Ern, keep it up 💪
Congrats Captain! I was able to get in one of our -800 sims in the old training building just after the MAX was in for SROV. Did a missed, clear day landing and then did a CAT III, all using the HUD. I bounced the CAT III. Lol. It is amazing how realistic the sims are though.
Great vid. Always wanted to see the sims when I was in Dallas.
