Made that Honolulu to Maui 20 minute flight in an ATA L1011 23 years ago. Only time in a wide body plane.

Hahaha! Yes, it is a long over to the famous Reef Runway with my formers 747-400 and 777s. Sometimes those big wide body aircraft are slow. Hahaha! Yes, the approach over to Kona is nice but yes, it is at the edge of the island!!😊😊 To bring the big 777s in there is really nice. And having the jet stairs there to come off the 777 is an exercise.😄😄 For passengers and us crew members that has always been an exercise. I do miss it sometimes.😊

While you were speaking about flight plan there at 17:14, I saw one of my former 777s passed that American Airline aircraft. We always got the stairs not the jet ramp that you there Mona!!😊😊 The same for me about holding that trip. Even though I was Purser qualified, I got those trips on reserve as well. And I was junior seniority to all my other F/As. But the saving grace is that many of them knew already from my trips that I could hold from Chicago to LA, San Francisco, San Diego and Seattle.😊

We taxi slow as to not heat up the tires especially at gross weight.

@@jcheck6 Hahahaha! Thanks. Yes, I do remember that we do have our extra weight. The weight of the aircraft plus the passengers and cargo! I do miss sitting at Door 1 Left looking out the door window at the left wing and our engines as we take on the weight as we lifted off the ground.

Southwest starting inter island flights was definitely the best thing that happened for us locals

Well before southwest started prices for inter island travel we’re ridiculously high. At times it was cheaper to fly to the west coast one way than to do a round trip inter island flight

Don't let it get you down big Ern flying ain't what it used to be my dad used to work for National Airlines then got bought out by Pan Am stuff happen like that sometimes that I think everybody's getting a bad rap today I have flown your Airlines before you've got a good Airlines there keep up the good work that's all you can do iflysouthwest anytime happy contrails

All the overseas airlines show the actual takeoffs and landings and flying. The FAA sucks😂😂

As a captain myself, Im always thanking the gate agents and telling the pax, please respect the gate agents and be kind. They are working hard to help get you to where you want to go. Thank you

Left seat driver as well Ive been in the cockpit since 92' but I can truthfully say that In my whole career in aviation I have never made a passenger announcement....of course my passengers are boxes and I hardly ever fly in the daytime😁. I was unique to go directly into freight at the age of 22....seems like many moons ago, safe travels

Good on you poulin as I married a gate agent. (met her while I was on an hour gate hold) If you are the type that brings treats to the FA's when non reving or jumpseating on another airline, remember it is the gate agent that is giving you the seat so direct the treats to them.

People that give airline staff any guff in front of me earns a dressing down of the most severe sort. I flew during the holidays it was rough but SWA did eventually get me where I needed to go.

I've been waiting for you to get a Hawaii flight. It did not disappoint.

Whenever I fly, I always compliment the Pilot on a good landing....Our Pilots deserve all the kudos for putting up with the crazies on planes now...

Over the 27th we were supposed to fly Oma to Phx then to Ogg but flight got canceled we drove to Ord and flew out on United southwest was very nice and paid for airfare from both airlines and paid for part of our trip.

My family and I flew SWA from KOA to HNL in June, 2021 that arrived in HNL at sunset. It was awesome to watch the sunset from the plane!

SWA is our go to carrier. Put our daughter's wedding on our SWA Rapid Rewards card. Gotta get those points! Wondering is there a limit to the number of hours you can fly in a month?

Ern is a good guy. Love what he does on these vlogs!

It is so cool to be able to see what commercial pilots do . I remember many years when I was in my teens you used to be able to walk into the terminals. Many times I tried talking to commercial pilots but I always got the unfriendly look .pilots were very snobby back then hot shots but we have Big Ern that we could watch,so cool.

You know, when the company has to rely on tech and other stuff, things happen. And to my way of thinking, the measure of success is how the company pivots to correct the tech. You guys have done an amazing jog, even though the customer facing issue may be frustrating. Keep on keeping on. By the way, have you flown with a flight attendant named Rhonda Huddleston?

It must be an absolute hoot to sit right seat with you Ern! Tons of operational knowledge and it seems like you’re a great mentor to soak up knowledge from. Love the vids!

I wonder if SWA is actually profiting from the Inter Island Routes.

Great video. Why do Hawaii bound flights out of San Diego fly up the CA coast to the LA area before heading west?

I love Big Ern’s videos they’re so inspiring and so entertaining. I love Big Ern he’s so positive and such a great person to watch and interact with. I would love to get to fly both as a passenger and as a Colleague with Big Ern in the future. I can’t wait to be done with my flight training so excited to be getting to fly and hopefully one day get a job in the airlines.

May I ask Captain what apps you use for all your necessary calculations, etc. I have thus far got Foreflight and CX-3 ASA App for the Ipad, but are there other apps for the ipad that you use or would suggest I use. I am just starting my journey to a PPL(A) and then progressing onto a commercial licence. Love the inspiring videos 🙏🏻

I remember how excited I was the first time I got to fuel the Herb Kelleher bird, I can't imagine how exciting it must have been to captain that plane!

Hey Ern, I am a Travis guy too. Worked swing shift in the autopilot shop. Retired in November 1986.

First time watching you. You guys look happy, happy pilots. That's so cool you can stick your head out the window. We love Southwest, we fly Southwest it's our Number one choice because they don't give us problems. We tried American Airline once and it was a nightmare with a flight attendant being a Karen just pushing us to get mad at her but we didn't fall for it, 4 of us flying a family. After that we'll never fly American Airlines ever again. We also tried Delra once. The person dealing with baggages at the check in counter was so unprofessional telling me I can't bring my luggages even if I pay. It would have been a nightmare. There was a Filipina worker I asked her for help and she said I was allowed to bring everything. I find that some workers have problems with authority. They feel they have so much power and mistreat some people they don't like. Southwest have been good to us each time. American Airlines and Delta we would never fly with them ever again.

I've travelled with SWA dozens of times and always had a nice experience except one time in Las Vegas with some woman who clearly needs to retire. There's always one.

Well said at the beginning E. Unfortunately the traveling public do not see (or care for that matter) what goes on behind the scenes and how even when things are going badly, we are still trying to serve them the best we can. Aviation is a complex beast.

If you ever have enough time on Kauai (Lihue) eat at Hamura Saimin and for desert get the lilikoi pie. Make sure you have cash because last time I was there they didn’t take cards. Also, a nice little beach with a river is Kalihiwai Beach

Getting stuck behind a slow taxiing triple in a 737 is like a sports car stuck behind a bus on a single lane road and nowhere to pass for 5 miles.😁 Love the retro Herb max.

AA doesn't taxi anything fast! 😄
