Love these little behind the scene shots of life as a Captain. Never knew you had to check the airplane for people left on board.
Really loved that you did your flow and recorded it! Thank you Ernie! I’m also a huge foodie!

I enjoyed the shut down explanation. Thanks again for another great video. I always learn something new! Cheers to your water!
I love this guy. He makes nervous flyers feel safe.
Growing up in San Diego, our home in Mission Hills was only a mile or so from the approach to 27. From my upstairs bedroom, I could easily watch the airliners as they slid past the El Cortez Hotel, seemingly barely above the streets and buildings rising from the approach end of 27. Just north from the numbers, it was there, Charles Limberg munched on sandwiches as he and Ryan Aircraft created a revolutionary newly designed plane. Near there also, I watched my father leave on flights from the small cinderblock building and the aircraft just beyond the 4 foot chain link fence where PSA would soon upgrade to Electras & a trip to LA cost about $5,00. We were also pulled out of our elementary school class to witness the first test flight of a Convair 880 leaving on 27. My best memory of that is powerful new plane in a rapid climb. Guess they didn't want to risk hitting Point Loma.

Oh that is so cool. I just love those kind of stories. I just wish I could hug every old person 999 times and listen to there stories.
Awesome video Ern! Please give us more of the ‘action’ before and after sterile cockpit like you did in this video. Super cool and fascinating to see.

Will do, thank you for watching 🤙
Love the video Ern! I am a Denver based ramp agent for Southwest airlines, so I totally understand how thew weather can go from great to bad on a dime. We could have a hot sunny day the first part, then rain and even possibly hail the second half. When you mentioned how the weather is so bipolar I was shaking my head like that is the truth with Denver. Great video again man! Love seeing them!

Very cool video, Big Ern. Thanks for the coolness.
Love the videos big ern .....keep em going
Great video as always captain. Looking forward to when you post the video that includes the film crews GoPro footage you told us about a couple days ago.
Great video Captain Ern! I think it was one of the most informative ones you’ve done! ⭐️🛬
Awesome video again Ernie, you really make flying look easy, but you operate professionally. Have a great week.
Another great video Big Ern! Thank you to you and all of your fellow pilots and flight attendants who keep us safe in the air. Love SWA!!!
The best KZreadr PIC pilot… hello from México 🇲🇽✈️
Thank you for sharing. I remember this storm going thru Denver. It made national news for ground stoppage.
Another great video. I enjoy living and working in the SD area. You have such a great career. Hopefully one day I get to catch one of your flights.
You content is awesome! Hope to see you flying on one of my future flights!
That was nice with some laughter, what a great job,I will be looking for your next video.
You do a great job with this channel. Very educational and spot on. Keep up the good work. You bring a bit more comfort to a nervous flyer.. Thank you
Love Harbor Island! Grew up in SD. Fly safe.
My fav captain! Cannot wait to fly a flight with Big Erin!! So kind, so helpful and courteous. If we all could be that and do that, this world would be such a better place! Safe travels Big Ern!
Aloha Ernie Mahalo for the super awesome video once again 👍
Great stuff Ern
Thanks big Ern, you give such good de-briefing especially final one in PHX. You know as Captain ow have extra duties on cabin walk around, for future captains:
We just flew to San Diego from Sac on SWA and all I can say is, what an amazing Air line! Totally cool!!!❤
This guy is my favorite captain 💯💯💯💯
Love your videos and hope I an on one of your flights someday.
Hey Ern thank you for this video I’ve always wondered how things work with the last leg of the night on the aircraft and cabin cleaners. Blue skies love your content.
Great content loved the explanation of the terminating checklist 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Love the video
Hey Capt. Ern, super video. Loved that new, clean, large glass cockpit, wow ! Best I've been in so far is the 800 series, (we fly back and forth between TPA and BDL twice a year.) Was scheduled for a Max once but it was changed at the last minute. Boooo ! BTW, May 24th, this year. TPA. Horrific storm. Lightning all around. Firehose rain. 2nd in line out of five or six out on the tarmac waiting for TO clearance for TWO hours. PIC shut down engine #2 to save fuel. He was an excellent capt who kept us well informed and we had a grease job landing at Hartford/Springfield, (congratulated the crew upon deplaning!) "If it ain't SWA, I ain't flying". 👍👍👍
Excellent video!
Thank you for sharing. Yes, I agree about San Diego. I have loved our layovers there as well. Plus for me, I have family living there. I have always loved walking downtown in the Harbour area!! Nice!!
loved seeing the shutdown procedure!
The weather here in Denver has been bonkers this spring/summer. Heck, or tornado in the burbs two days ago. Hopefully see ya on a flight soon.
Keep drinking the water Ern! Your vlogs are so interesting and entertaining.
Love the videos , you should do some vlogging while flying in Autopilot and show us the views 😎
Happy 4th of July to you and your family.
Thanks ernie really enjoyed that shut down of the max its interesting seeing the little things you Pilots do,so is the captain responsible and last of the plane and final intreior check,do you do a final exterior walk around ,im retired now but was an interstate Semi driver and your last duty was walk around the tru k/trailer looking for anything that needed to be reported to maintenance ,not that im comparing a Semi to a Max ,as always mate great and imformative Kym Adelaide
It was good to see you. Again u have made Southwest airlines my number one airlines and when I travel I hope you are the pilot keep up the good work
When I came out of the jetway a couple of weeks ago from NOLA, the BBQ smell hit me.First time changing in Austin for the final leg to OKC,.
Eh, brah, rockin' the koa/tungsten ring, you one island boy already. Mahalo for your vids they're all informative and entertaining!
Liked seeing the behind the scenes shut down procedure! Also glad you’re bringing food back into the vids lol looking forward to the return of that little heater pack thing from the early ones (nk)😬

Ern, if that was last Thursday 6/22, that storm dropped a tornado in Highlands Ranch, not far from KAPA (Centennial) in the south suburbs. Glad y'all got in and out safely! - Keep up the great work on the channel! I'm getting too old to switch careers to fly even though I'd love to!
My birthday is complete with a Big Ern video to top off the night. Happy flying!

His birthday is right before mine.
Deja Blue? Isn’t that a JetBlue aircraft name? Gimme a Max ride to Austin with Big Ern. We’ll do some serious chowing down at The Salt Lick!!
I have seen people leave the battery switch on all night after cleaning and when I brake ride in the AM that's a problem . Great video. Had my Dad one time was told to wait on the plane in ONT for his WCH and he said I can walk out to the jet bridge and they told him no. He waited 30 minutes and that was the last flight of the night and everyone has left the aircraft and left him on. It wasn't WN but AS. Have a great vacation.
As always another superb video and who does not love them some BBQ😋
Cool to see the terminating checklist. 👌
Really interesting how you shutdown an airplane for the night, thanks for showing that.
So cool to watch both as an avid flight sim player and I'm hoping of becoming an airline pilot for Air New Zealand!
I love your KZread channel. And yes, your correct the weather in Colorado is bipolar. I currently live in Colorado, but I'm originally from California, and I sorely miss California, especially the weather. On a side note, i don't mind living in Arizona it's beautiful out there. Especially Glendale.
I too am a foodie Big Ern
Much appreciated.
love it
Glad you're enjoying the MAX, Ern. I've been wondering if you notice any handling differences when flying from the earlier variants. Anyway, I'm really enjoying your videos.
Going back a few years, I always brought my own coffee. To this day, I still have that Stanley thermos. I was a young FO, and it was the same thermos I took to the field with me when farming, working cattle etc.. its beat up, scratched, chipped, even a few dents. I received many free meals from CA’s who saw my thermos and assumed I must have had a long ride on the struggle bus to get there, and figured I could use some help. Actually, it was my grandfathers thermos before he gifted it to me when I started to like coffee. I have a dozen YETI’s and other nice ones that were freebies from seed salesmen and other vendors to the farm, but I usually grab the old Stanley.
Another great video. You know you’re having a good day when you have meat sweats from bbq 🤩
Awesome video, good stuff, longest 737 flight I flew on was 5 hours, Edmonton Canada to Puerto Vallarta Mexico, not great , not terrible 😎
Awesome Ern!!!! ❤✈......Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱🇺🇸 Safe flight!!!! X Betsy......
I feel your pain I used to fly out of Charlotte in the summer if you don’t get out by 11 plan on spending the night
11:42 Oh my gosh, you remind me SO MUCH of a popular someone here😊🇺🇸
OK dude that is a relief! I thought perhaps that was Buddlite! Maybe you had gone all goofy on us! Onward and upward!
Every time I get on SWA I hope for Big Ern. One of these days...

Same. I so want to catch a flight with him!
Service San Diego to anywhere (SWA) in Arizona sucks. Always claimed "turbulence" so the flight attendants dont have to do much but sit on their behind!! Every time!!! 🤣🤣
Captain Ern!!!!
I try to book TPA-AUS-ELP when going out west to see family. Austin is a great transfer airport with great BBQ!
Could you imagine the implications of bringing a six pack of beer into the cockpit?? Immediate termination Im sure, lol.
Have you tried the BBQ at new KMCI terminal yet? Meat Mitch Burnt Ends were pretty solid.
Great video Cap'n! Question: Is it true that everything a piece of equipment does for the day is considered one big flight (in the system) and the flight numbers just break it into segments?
New Mexico has amazing food
Love your videos big Ern. I have a love for aviation also. Is there anyway you can film part of a flight or is that not allowed?
When are you going to do an east coast tour??? You've got a lot of fans of your videos and SW who would love to have a chance to see you live

G,day Captain "Big Ern" from Sydney Australia. I like the quality of the graphics on the LCD mapping (have you new Go-Pros)? The three indicated storm cells, where you altered route (track) to the North: did they converge? 🌏🇭🇲
Cant wait for u to teach me to fly
I love your channel! Have you ever been to Columbus KCMH?
San Diego the best overnight no doubt. I could live at the Hilton Harbor Island.

@@FlyingwithBigErn Amazing! Hopefully I see you there! Are you taking the green hornet? I would love to meet you!
Great video. Do you get any trips to MDW or Florida?
One time flying SWA from Boston to Denver we had to divert to Amarillo (I think it was Amarillo) to get more fuel because the weather in Denver was pretty bad and "they" wanted to make sure we had extra. Are "they" you pilots, or someone at the company who makes those decisions? I commuted to Boston RT from Denver twice a month back in the '80s mostly on UAL DC-8s and depending on the wind the trip back to Denver took anywhere from about 4 hours flat to 5:20 one time I think.
It’s like tucking the airplane int bed.
That was a long day….at least you had a printer! BBQ would be amazing!
