Croatia is next to Argentina the biggest favourite to progress the group by a margin. Nigeria doesnt have the quality nor the experience Croatia has to be considered a bigger favourite. The media and the odds tell the same story

It's not the hardest group since Argentina is really an unstable team, that can change at the event itself but they don't look as stable as other top teams. Then Croatia had the easiest qualifying group and still Island were first, even teams that tend to choke a lot. Lastly Nigeria is the youngest team in the World Cup, they don't have the experience and will struggle, so the group is not really the hardest.

This is by far the toughest group imo.

First upset in world cup will be Iceland hammering Argentina. This will leave the group wide open. There are always group upsets and this one seems to be the most likely contender for an upset. In last world cup England, Spain, Portugal and Italy all flopped and were left out from group stage. Italy and England even in the same group. Costa Rica and Urugay went forward. 4 European powerhouses left out, with competition held in South America. Now the competition is being held in Europe where South American teams usually under perform. Unstable teams like Argentina are prime candidates for flopping in messed up groups like this one. I think Croatia will win them as well. My bet is on Iceland and Croatia going forward.

I honestly think that Croatia will finish on top, Nigeria 2nd and Argentina 3rd Argentina has focused too much on building a squad around Messi, and thus not giving Dybala enough playtime to play at his best. Leaving out Icardi (who also got very limited international playtime) will also cost them. It is actually a real shame, because if they had given Icardi and Dybala enough faith, then Argentina would have been an incredibly strong squad, even without Messi

I honestly don’t see Argentina going that far. They’ve had a lot of problems defensively and their midfield don’t seem to linkup with their attack very well. Lot of their best players do seem to underperform as well. Messi has had to literally carry this side to the World Cup. No matter how good Leo is, he’s gonna need his teammates to step up as well.

This is my prediction. 1. Argentina: Despite how bad their qualification campaign was, they're a team buzzing with quality going forward. If used right the combo of Di Maria, Lanzini, Messi, Aguero and Dybala can be deadly. 2. Croatia: Too much strength in the midfield for them to not get past. Rakitic and Modric are truly world class. 3. Nigeria: They use the wings well and I believe that they may surprise the other sides. Also the jersey is slick. 4. Iceland: Maybe I'm underestimating them, but I don't think they have the quality to sustain qualification.

Argentina have just scored 4 goals in World Cup Qualifiers in all of 2017! Just FOUR! One of them was an own goal and the other 3 were scored by Messi in a do or die match against Ecuador. It's a shame that Messi has to carry a team with the likes of Aguero, Higuain, Di Maria, Dybala etc. He literally had to come out of retirement to help Argentina qualify for the World Cup. And people have the nerve to call him a failure at international level. It is because of Messi that Argentina even reached 3 major international finals in a row. Without him, they would go back to being shit like the period between Maradona's international retirement and Messi's debut for his country! Without Messi, both Barcelona and Argentina would be irrelevant!

I believe he says, "Could win it, or Fail to Progress" because the group stage matches will show the real strengths of Argentina as a team. That is when the true formation will be be tested, and if they can progress through this group of death with ease, they surely will be a true competitor for the trophy.

I am from Iceland and they don't have the manpower to go so far. They can't bench players like the big teams to keep good players from being tired deeper into the tournament. I think they will go forward from group D, possibly win the group after an upset win against Argentina in first match. Then they would face Peru or Denmark likely in final 16 which they might manage. After that, it is over, Spain would come next. Too tired and Spain simply too good. After Spain would come Germany. No way they can win world cup. If they get second place in group D then I think France will manage to win them, maybe not as comfortably as in Euros but still, France is too strong now for Iceland.

Finnbogasson is a good striker and Iceland had no problems scoring in the qualification games

One little mistake: Rebić would be important player because his great form in last few month. He and Perišić would be wingers, or Kramarić. Striker position depends about opposition team and Croatia has tri option: Mandžukić as a target man, Kramarić false 9 or stiker who play in half-spaces and Kalinić who is good link-up player and useful in position play. Our biggest problem is left back and in that position we don't have a decent player- best example was yesterday playing against Brazil..

Iceland will top the group. Tactically the best side. Croatia hate playing against underdogs and are mentally not at the level a world class side should be, while Argentina have a poor manager that hasn't got a clue what to do with the players he has. Nigeria need to be fucused, and Onazi/Ndidi pairing must give it their all against the bigger teams. But as neither Croatia nor Argentina are combative and physical, the Africans have a chance.

Everyone still underestimates Iceland. True enough their form has been bad in warm ups but it was the same before the Euros. I have been following Iceland's team even more closely than my own (England) since seeing them come from 4-1 down to draw 4-4 with Switzerland in the 2014 Quals. I have never seen a more organized, hard working and passionate team before, and that's where their strength lies. They do not have many technical players, but they probably have better team cohesion than anyone else at the tournament. They have proven themselves capable against Croatia, so I expect them to at least draw with them. Argentina will be hard, they are something of a one man team but I have a feeling that Messi's brilliance will carve even the strongest defensive performance open. As for Nigeria, I don't really see what they have against Iceland, their game seems mostly based on raw pace, something which becomes almost useless against a team like Iceland that defends so deeply. Just watch the England game from 2 years ago, they tried to use a fast striker in Jamie Vardy to break Iceland down, and there just wasn't any space for him to make anything. Time will tell, I may be completely wrong of course but from what I have seen I think that most people are underestimating Iceland quite badly.

Argentina n nigeria have been drawn in the same group 4 times..2002..2010..2014..2018..

Croatia are a good side and I've always been one of the people saying they're underrated, but I just fancy Iceland to get through the group. Maybe it will be at the expense of Argentina, who knows. Hopefully.

You are very wrong about Mateo Kovacic, He often plays big games where he man marks the other teams best player and he does a great job, he plays in a squad with 6 of the best midfielders in the world, så he does not play every game but he is solid when he plays and can play all central midfield positions

If Sampaoli keep switching formations, I think the team might struggle as the team has to adapt to new formations and tactics. I feel like Argentina might struggle in his World Cup, but I hope they have a good run though.
