February 2019 Budget Recap

Today, I am showing you how I close out my budget every month.
I am also showing you what my spending and budget looked like for February 2019.
What do you do with your budget after the month is over, and you’re ready to begin a new month? Most people don’t realize it, but your spending throughout the month gives you some incredibly helpful information.
One of the first steps to creating and sticking to a realistic budget is tracking your expenses. Your spending is the underlying foundation creating a budget and ensuring that your budgets in the future are successful.
If you are not aware of where your money is going, you can’t make the best decisions for your dollars. Today, I am going to show you how to extract all of the vital information from your expense trackers using three helpful worksheets.

I've noticed that since I started following your method, rather than being downtown spending money, I'm at home being ultra organized and on top of my finances. I'd like to hear more about your monthly savings challenges: E.g. pack a lunch month. Thanks!!

I really enjoyed all that information my friend! You are one smart cookie...I have started my budget back in January and so far I have went over for both months...Jan over by 250.00 but started month overdrawn. *Heavy Sigh.* Feb was better, I wasn't overdrawn! Always good. I still went over budget 200.00. Convenience store sodas and snacks add up QUICK! I am not giving up. I will master this budgeting thing. Thank you for all the work you put into this. You are inspiring and amazing! Terri

Hi!! I have been following you for awhile and thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience and being true to your finance management. I have a question and i have been doing the cash envelop for few months now and i am still learning and making mistakes and ending up i am owing money to myself everymonth. Anyways, I categorize my envelopes by the names of our family members instead of doing how you are doing but I am not sure if its smart to do like that? Just need an advice. Thanks.

I have a question on the Debt Payment Plan page. For the credit card balances up top, do you put the balance at the beginning of the month or the balance at the end of the month (after payment & interest charges)?

Is all this in your budget book? Also if this can be simplified for beginners, it would be a great tool for ppl that are being released from jail after a long term. I mailed the free expense tracker sheet & they were surprised how much they spend while serving time. Any-who thanks for all the videos💗 we should have been learning this in high school 🤦🏻‍♀️ before we blew every penny.

With the savings category , is that the money you put into savings or the money you spent from savings ? Let's say I budgeted €200 for my savings , I put it into savings and I didn't spent anything fromt that €200. Do I then put €200 or €0 in the actual column ? Am I making this too complicated ? 😅

Why wouldn’t you make your beginning balance always $1000? And assign the “left over” to something?

Maria Miranda Just start by tracking your spending. If you use only debit/credit you can print out the past 2-3 months’ statements as a starting point to see if you have any trouble spots. If you do have trouble areas, that’s where you want to try to cut back and use cash if possible. For creating a budget, look to see when you get paid and what bills are due when, in order to see which paychecks need to pay for which bills. Then use your previous spending (or you may just need to guess) to figure out how much needs to go towards other needs- such as food, clothes, car expenses, etc. Then take what’s leftover and put that towards your goal- usually savings first then when your savings is built up, paying off debt, then saving for a house or other larger expenses like a new car. It’s takes a few months of practice and trial & error to get the hang of it. Just stick with it and you’ll get there.

I agree, just looking at how she budgets gives me a headache. I'm much happier just budgeting with cash envelopes and stopping spending once an envelope is empty so I don't have every waking moment updating spreadsheets
