The problem with the fear of rejection is that it still hurts even when we are not getting rejected. I was taught by my boxing trainer, Martin Snow, that the worst punch you get is the one you never actually get hit with. It’s the one you think about and fear in your mind. That means that even without literally being rejected, we experience the pain by imagining it over and over again.
On top of that, we beat ourselves up for all the things we are missing out on as a result of our fear: potential partners, opportunities, experiences, adventures, and most importantly - our full potential.
Fear of rejection is one of the most human things in the world. We all experience it. But how can we learn to manage it, live with it, and even occasionally, overcome it?

    Rejection sucks. But when you look back at someone that's rejected you, don't you think it turned out to be one of the biggest blessings? I remember going through years of attracting guys that were not choosing me in the way I wished they did. Now when I look back, I think, 'Thank you so so much. If I stayed around this guy I'd have never ever been able to meet this truly amazing guy I'm with now'🙏🏻 Every rejection gets you closer to the person you're meant to be with 💜 don't give up

    True or correct?...rejection simply is re-direction. Just because you may feel you didn't get what you wanted it don't mean you didn't get what you needed.

    I love this so much. “You can sleep at night knowing you tried, but the thing that will keep you up at night is knowing you didn’t put yourself out there” this applies to everything in life and not just relationships. I have started to base my life off this and it’s so true and it makes life so much more fullfilling “fear regret more” “decide regret is the scariest thing” “no rejection is as painful as the regret you feel later on” “Doing this we keep creating the best version of ourselves...” all these are so so so true.

    I've been living in a cave, it's called my room during the pandemic lol. But, I told the guy I was into him and he felt the same way...so now my cave is a happy place

    Okay, I'm going to rock the boat a little. To those who have experienced childhood trauma through abuse, rejection can feel like death and going into "the cave" was a means of survival. Often rejection hits those same nerves and triggers so much pain that it's hard to know how to knowingly decide to put ourselves through that again. I'm not saying we shouldn't work on reframing rejection, like you said. But, I think, for some, it's going to take far more effort for them than for those who aren't triggered in the same way. Abuse survivors were rejected at their core when they most needed love and acceptance, so coming out if it is going to take reprogramming of a way of thinking that's been embedded in our minds since childhood... And for some since infancy. I've been working on this, and I feel a change, but sometimes rejection still hits that same paralyzing nerve that it still takes me out for a week or more.

    I know exactly what you mean. I was constantly rejected during my childhood so I'm extremely triggered when rejection reoccurs. For people with this kind of trauma it is particularly hard to work on that. However, this shouldn't be an excuse either. We only have one life, so working on that is never wrong, at least when faced in a manageable dosage.

    I was this person rejected my whole life and of course it still hurts a bit but I’m here to tell you it’s possible it’s possible to “love” rejection and embrace all of its good things I believe in all of you 💛

    @@a.g.5396 Yes, I agree that we shouldn't waste our lives being afraid of rejection. I think we have to be ready with necessary supports in order to process the pain that will come when our risks are rebuffed. If we try without an arsenal of tools for dealing with rejection then we'll probably not be all that successful in trying again.

    @@valentinaa36 I've been practicing so I feel like I'm not so saddened by rejection as much as I used to be. As long as I see each encounter as just a practice. I think I've been really sensitive in the past and I still am but I've got a lot of tools (the at-home retreat being one of them.) I think of those who are just starting out while still carrying around baggage like I was. I think that I have empathy for those who are still deeply hurt when they get rejected. I just think it might take more than just a short pep talk to be okay with being rejected.

    The fear of rejection has imprisoned me in my own head for most of my adult life & it is absolutely miserable. If ur young, work on overcoming it ASAP bc it only builds worse & worse over time. I wish I would've faced it earlier

    This video have me the courage (for the first time in my life) to tell the guy I like about my feelings. I haven’t slept well over the last weeks, trying to interpret the mixed signals he was sending. It was the scarriest thing I have ever done. He does not feel the same and it hurts, but at least I can sleep well knowing that I have tried and I have no regret. This has also saved a lot of time that I would have spent torturing myself with questions on if he reprocicates or not....

    The more rejection you experience the better you get at handling it 💪🏻 I actually filmed a video today where I asked people online to roast me, I was nervous of course but I ended up laughing so much! These are people I will never meet anyways, and they don’t ACTUALLY know anything about me so it doesn’t matter 🤷🏼‍♀️

    I believe the issue is less about rejection and more about societal acceptance of disrespectful behaviour. It's like people go out of their way to reject in a hurtful manner as an ego boost. So unneccessary.

    Finally found the video that I really was needing. I have this girl, I met in college some months ago, and I fell in love with her, basically. I think she likes me; when I'm with her she smiles a lot, she laughs at my jokes or when I tease her and stuff so I might have a chance. The thing was, I was so afraid of being rejected that I didn't have the courage to make important moves, and for some time since I met her I only could act friendly. In school I was really shy and when I liked a girl I was so terrified I'd never even dare to look at her. "What if she says no? What will I do?" I'd think, and my mind wouldn't stop overthinking about all the scenarios or reasons why it wouldn't work. I really didn't know how to approach them either, so that blocked me too: "Should I confess right away, or get to know her better first? Do I have to flirt with her? But how i do it?? And it's so hard..." I've hardly confessed my feelings to these girls, and don't even talk about flirting. One time I mustered the courage and did it, but it was too late, and she rejected me. Later on I found that many times, some of these girls actually liked me too, for a while, but given I didn't realize or made a move, they moved on, some of them got a boyfriend, or just lost interest. What happened at the time was, when I liked a girl I couldn't help but fantasize about kissing, going out and stuff, so much so that I kinda put an expectation on myself, and I knew subconsciously that wasn't totally in my control, so these thoughts only put pressure on me. Years passed, and I never got a girlfriend. I've never had real experience either, so there's that too, and every time I look back, I don't feel as bad for being rejected, but I regret not having been braver since the start. Not trusting in myself more, that was my real problem. Because I knew if only I had faith in myself, no matter the result, I could be rejected, but I'll sure have no regrets, move on, and sleep peacefully again. I'd do progress! I always kinda knew it, but I let my fears get the better of me. So this time is different. Yes, I might have a chance, no matter. Yes, I still cannot help but imagine us together and stuff, no matter. What matters is that I'm finally taking action. As I said, at the start I only managed to act friendly around her, but lately I started acting more playful around her, teasing her, holding more eye contact, touching her more (not in a bad way, obviously), and the best one yet, I asked her out! I still feel I didn't really showed my intentions to be honest, but I'm more confident 'cause, for once, I'm daring to pursue my goal, getting a girlfriend, even though I have fears that pushed me back every time. And you know what? Every time gets easier. Each moment, I'm able to go a little farther from my comfort zone. Like today, I invited her to go out! I had never done that in my life! I still really want her to be my girlfriend, and get to those beautiful moments I imagine when the time is right, but one thing's for sure: even if it doesn't work out, I'll be proud of myself. Thank you for the video, it was really helpful in reinforcing this mindset and staying centered.

    He was giving me mixed signals n i was confused about his feelings. I love him a lott but i was unable to focus on my future due to this confusion. I day i asked him directly, do you have a girlfriend, at very first moment he hesitated but after a moment he said yess! He knew i was in love with him n i decided to walk alway. i still love him but i walked away from him. I m more happy now.

    How can you love someone you're not in a relationship with? That sounds more like superficial infatuation. And why spend energy on someone who is not showing you clear signals and sincerity? You're worth more than waiting around for a guy that's not into you sis x

    Your words don't help me feel better about just romantic relationships... As someone who deals with social anxiety in simple everyday matters, this gives me a more confident outlook on life in general. I can tell you that every opportunity or risk I didn't take because I was too insecure or anxious, is a decision I always end up regretting.     The problem with rejection, though, is that it can have a huge impact on your mental health. Plus, rejection can cause regret, too - regret for letting another person into your life, when that person causes you to become so mentally unwell that after them, you become incapable of trusting others and unable to lead a relationship as a result.

    1:54 " The thing that gonna make you stay up all night is knowing you didn't put yourself out there" I just did exactly that. I asked the girl I like out and she accepted, but everything thing I did was ask her out. I didn't try to hold hands, kiss her, or even hug her all based on the fear of rejection. But now knowing how painful regret is, rejection is just a merely inconvenience in my life.

    The fear of rejection is not always based on a “tiny moment,” or 1 incident or situation. I have never been able to have a legitimate, serious relationship & I’m 35. Rejection is my middle name. I work on personal development like so many others. I try to approach dating & relationships in ways that will give me the result that I want. I want to marry & have a family. But, it seems like it just won’t happen for me. I feel ashamed. I feel like an alien, an outlier & that there is not much space in this current dating/relationship culture for people like myself. I hope someday I get to a place where I no longer fear dying alone & where I no longer care about being married or having a family because it’s painful to care. It’s painful to think about not having had anyone who loved you as though you were a priority.

    For me, every person that reject us become our teacher, but it's on us to pay atention and take advantage of the situation (and the lesson), and I'm not talking only about love... It really hurts, but at the end failure is nothing but learning. I truly believe that most of the times the difference between someone who has achieved success and another who hasn't its only how many times they've failed before. The sooner we start to fail, the closer we are to achieve success. This is what I remind to myself whenever I'm scared of doing something or being rejected.

    Matt. I have the longest story ever. Met young broke up over him giving other girls his number. Met 20 years later after a marriage. He was so much made me believe in myself and love again. I didn’t know how dating changed. Caught a lot of cheating to me. Broke up many times. Got pregnant he moved to me. Blended family. Cheated while pregnant. Broke up. Got back after proving a lot. But never opens his phone. 10 years later still not married. 6yr so. K ow he loves me but no ring, no open phone, and rarely productive convo. I work two jobs.6-7 days a week. Idk how to progress.

He just blocked me, cut all the ties and moved on as if I never was a part of his life even though I helped him out with everything. I don't know how to deal with this heartbreak.     It’s not the fear of rejection. It’s the overwhelming amount of rejection I’ve faced in my life that makes me feel as though there’s basically zero chance of getting a yes, so why bother? And I’m not even someone who’s gotten rejected 2 or 3 times and am trying to overdramatize and hyperbolize my experience. I’ve been rejected hundreds if not a thousand times.

    I’m almost 30 and I’ve never been loved or been truly admired by anyone.. I guess that makes me wonder a lot if there’s something wrong with me. Also, The only person that I loved and tried to approach in a friendly way, rejected me as a friend. so I don’t know what else to think other than that I’m not really the type of girl that guys like or dream of anyway.     Fatuma11 Thinks of all the gorgeous/smart/wealthy/strong women who’ve been loved/married in their 20s and get divorced within years or decades. They’re basically in the same boat as u, but with lots of baggage (emotional/physical/ or kids etc.) Ur in a great position to spend ur life happily. Don’t waste it being negative. Life is FULL of possibilities. Go explore.

    I usually self sabotage first that way I save myself from possible rejection, our attachment types play a major part . I’m 40 in December and haven’t got past the year and half mark in any relationship my fear and insecurities are so big 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s very very difficult when you have an insecure attachment type and it’s so difficult I usually just think it’s better to be alone

    What a coincidence...or is the timing of this upload a sign? This is a sign of my self-growth. I am building thicker skin and trusting myself. To be honest, I would rather run away than to feel raw emotions. If it's any other topic but dating, I'd be totally fine. But it's just something about dating that makes me feel like I'm standing naked in front of a crowd. Each time I put so much weight on someone's opinion of me, I remind myself of who I am and of my strengths. I remind myself that this goes both ways: instead of me not being good enough for him, what if he's not good enough for me? I want a good match not a boyfriend; it's really not that hard to get one of those. Lastly, I remind myself of the character of taking a risk; THAT speaks so much more than the result. I can't control whether or not he and I are a good match, but I do have control over my own actions. It's important for me to take risks because all my life I've been mature, responsible, and logical. Now I want to show more of another side of me. I want to be more spontaneous, adventurous, and take more risks that push me out of my comfort zone in other parts of my life (that's not work-related!). So here's to being more spontaneous and lighthearted! To this day, I don't regret a single thing in my life, and I will not let the fear of rejection be the first one.

    Honestly... I dont think it's fear of me getting rejected that stops me from flirting or putting myself out there. I think it's the fear of me having to reject someone else. About a year ago I had to reject one of my best male friends after trying to take things further and hurting him and losing that friendship was a heartbreak that is far from healed...

    I'm in the situation rn where this guy works at a convenient store, and months ago i walked in and he was so nice i wasn't sure if he was kinda flirting. But im really shy and didn't stay and talk much. I went back a couple times to see the vibes on another day, and every time i went back he wasn't there. I didn't know his schedule and i guess the timing was just always bad. So just recently, i decided to go back and try again. I went in, and he was there, but he was stocking inventory and didn't see me. So at this point, im not sure if i should keep trying, or just take it as a sign it's not meant to be. I have no idea if he's even single or how old he is. I want to catch him and find out and see what the vibes are, but im also afraid of rejection. I've been rejected before when approaching someone, couple different times, and it does always make me feel like im not good enough. But this lil pep talk is encouraging to at least try one more time. Wish me luck🍀

    Sometimes it IS you. If you always think rejection has nothing to do with you, then you're either a narcissist or a martyr (sometimes both). You'll never learn to be a better person or get better at relationships. Take responsibility for YOUR part, but don't blame yourself for things the other person did wrong. Knowing the difference is important.
