You can summon a servant without a catalyst and the grail will pick the heroic spirit most compatible to you lets say if your a serial killer there's a chance you can summon jack the ripper or something along those lines

@@sidelink8448 Rin didn't use the catalyst in the summoning "technically." Even if the Mage doesn't use one the summoning will use character traits of the Servant or something that the Servant has as the catalyst. There is ALWAYS a catalyst. The personality or some defining characteristic will be offered as the catalyst in the event nothing else matches. For example, even if Shirou didn't have Avalon he would still have summoned Artoria because their personalities are similar. Martyrs who sacrifice themselves for others as well as they both wanted to change their past selves decisions etc. Rin didn't use the pendant in the summoning. Archer had the pendant because in his timeline he never found out it was hers and never gave it back so she summoned him from that even though personalities don't match. Funny thing is that since she didn't use a catalyst is what allowed him to be summoned and it didn't matter how or when she did the ritual she would have gotten him regardless unless she uses a catalyst to get someone else. In Fate/Zero, everyone already knows Ryunosuke and Gilles but one that goes under the radar often is Kariya. Lancelot ran off with Artoria's wife Guinevere and Kariya was in love with Tokiomi's wife Aoi. Their personalities are very different but even something like that can be a catalyst.

SPOILER: True, but it should be mentioned that Shirou is more likely to summon Spartacus according to Nasu if he doesn't have Avalon. At this point, Shirou hasn't finished his journey like Artoria has. Perhaps a Shirou like pre-Guardian EMIYA (Before he died) would be more likely to summon Artoria considering that they have even more similarities to each other than FSN Shirou, given that EMIYA, just like Artoria, was forced to pick sides in life and kill people to save people as well as eventually being betrayed by their allies and dying.

It is adapting a near 30 hour route and watching it means skipping the entire first route which builds the foundations of everything. So it’s bound to not be perfect but animation wise it looks great but the removal of inner monologue makes some character action seem a little shallow. Still appreciate it but kind of wished they started from the first route and onward

Archer - a class made up of servants that uses projectile weaponry. So they could literally be using a bow as an archer, or they could use anything close to that like a gun, or even things that's kinda weird like a boomerang since that also qualifies as a projectile weapon. Lancer - another that's like the Archers, in that this makes up servants that uses any pole type weapon. It's not necessarily just a lance. In fact so far, the Lancer class servants aren't even wielding any lance, they're instead using spears. Also yes, a servant can indeed qualify for other classes. Lets take for example, Artoria, she technically qualifies for Lancer because she does have a legend surrounding the wielding of a weapon in the polearm group. In her case, it's an actual lance, instead of a spear.

@@skychieftain Idk actually, seems like in Fate, javelin throw is just considered a part of the extended usage of a spear and not enough to qualify you as an Archer. Same reasoning I think that Arthuria doesn't qualify as Rider(at least normally) just because she has both the skills to ride almost anything and an actual legend named horse. Edit: Now that I also remember it, even Hector whose NP it is to literally throw his spear, he is still a Lancer.

@@ubeia4857 not exactly. Gilgamesh is only an Archer because he has no specific class assigned for him. There's no class where you sit and toss weapons at the enemy. Everyone else most likely has a weapon to relate to the class.

@@skychieftain Umm... No. Heroic Spirits as a whole don't have classes however they are summoned by the Grail (an imperfect summoning created by the Three Families) into separate classes. It was explained in the OG VN as akin to tearing pages out of a book. If the original Heroic Spirit is the book you are summoning a Servant copy from a very small portion of that book. If we use Gilgamesh as an example his Archer and Caster forms are like different chapters of that book. Different points in his life. Archer is before his journey for immortality and Caster is afterwards. If we were to summon the actual true full Heroic Spirit then they would have everything from their entire life at their disposal rather than portions of their legend. Like Lancer Diarmuid vs Saber Diarmuid. True original Heroic Spirit Diarmuid would have all his swords and spears and all the skills for both plus whatever else you can think of from his legend. I don't even think Grands are at this level since they are still separated into classes. I'm not sure how this is supposed to work or if Grands just retconned the original explanation of a True Heroic Spirit but yeah.

to be fair with Archer, more often than not, at least in Zero, we saw how the masters held their servants back trying to control them, Gilgamesh could have wiped Iskandar, Diarmud, Bercelot with Artoria being the one survivor had Tokiomi not acted all paranoid, there's literally only like 4 or 5 servants that can challenge and maybe defeat Gilgamesh also: UBW lancer whose name i will not mention till it's revealed is leagues superior to Diarmud, I'll die on that hill

Just so you know, this takes place 10 years after Fate/Zero, also since it’s only Episode 0, I’ll explain Servant Summoning, the Servants are summoned from a unknown location outside of time & space called the Throne of Heroes, their Original Spirit remains there, while a copy/clone is Summoned, so while they may remember, they also may be a different copy, Archer & Saber in this Anime are special cases though, and I won’t explain them yet as that would spoil the show for you, I’ll save that explanation for later

When they say Saber is the most power is because the the seven clases are treated like game characters with stats and stat wise Saber is meant to be the best servant but like you guys said that doesn’t necessarily mean an instant win other servants can have unique skills that can better a Saber. Each class has a parameter for a hero to fall under it basically depending on there how they fought in legends but a hero could fall into more than one category. An Archer is anyone who uses projectiles weaponry as there main and those projectiles can be anything that correlates to the servant. If a servant legend mains there way of fight was thrown the kitchen sink at you then they could fall on the archer class cause they got famous for using it as a projectile weapon so you would get a servant that throws sinks at the enemy. Also I know it’s horribly animated but at you’re own time after finishing this up binge the OG Fate/Stay Night show its still one of the three routs like the rest and a canon outcome its just not worth reacting to but if you wanna know all of fate its still needs to be watched.

Saber is nerfed in both Zero and FSN. Excalibur is powerful enough to take out the White Titan yet in FSN at one point it can't even kill Heracles once because of how weakened she is. Despite that she still beats Gil in the Fate Route thanks to Avalon.

Someone might have told you already, but Artoria is actually in a situation where Saber will always be her. I think she isn't even dead in her own time yet while she is a servant, which is why she can't dematerialize (go into spirit form). You'll find more evidence of this when you watch the original Fate/Stay Night anime or one of its reproduction specials (at the end of the story), which by now maybe you guys have.

The Original FSN is a horrible adaptation, if anything it's better to watch it after you're done watching Zero, UBW and Heavens Feel

The OG Fate/Stay Night is butchered as it combined all of the routes(kind of watering down the other routes) I think it also spoils Archer’s identity

Them calling Kiritsugu "Kally" or whatever is doubly insulting. Not only cuz it disrespects his name, but tarnishes Sherry's nickname for him, "Kerry". Just call him Emiya if you can't remember such simplistic names.

@@thatguy5712 The name "Kerry" isn't Japanese though and Shirley (Yes I messed up her name and I am ashamed of it) called him that cuz Kiritsugu was too difficult a name for the islanders to pronounce. Her nickname makes sense. Who tf is "Kally" or "Karry"? There's no connection to his name besides starting with a K.
