It was more so Ben Browder and Claudia Black had 6 year contracts for the show, but since the show was cancelled after the 4th Season Scyfy Channel had to honor their contracts for the following 2 years. The thing about this show that's pure magic is that you'll soon stop seeing the aliens as puppets. They'll be no different than an actor in makeup. The acting is that good. When you laugh or cry over something a puppet alien does, you'll be completely hooked.

OK, so Browder was in Farscape, Stargate, Marvel, and Doctor Who. Shame he couldn't find his way into Star Wars and Star Trek.
One aspect of Farscape that I love (and is safe to say this early) is that it loves scifi tropes, but it loves them more when they're on their head and spun until they're dizzy. Oh, your show has a beautiful, orchestral theme song? We're going to make ours a weird, primal chorus of grunts and wails. Humans have an earned their rightful place in space travel? Well, our boy Crichton is pretty confused all the time and way out of his element. He's able to contribute, though. Your main characters work as a team to solve their problems? Our crew hates and mistrusts each other and is barely able to run away from their problems. And so on and so forth. I love this show. It seeps into your bones.
@MandoWookie
9 күн бұрын
That was something I noticed on rewatch. The 1st season is practically speedrunning all the standard Sci-fi tropes, because they aren't what the show is actually about. They are just easy situations to put the cast through to figure out the characters. And starting in season 2, it's not the wacky situations that drive things forward, it's the wacky characters that start really driving things up to 11. And then S3....well, John just embraces the madness just a little too enthusiastically & suddenly the fish out of water is riding a bicycle & flipping the bird at the sharks circling him.
“Whomever killed my brother will pay dearly…” “YOUR BROTHER CAN’T DRIVE!” 😂❤😂

@@funnylilgalreacts Yeah, Crais is kind of a dick, but I'm sure this is not the last we see of him. Also, this show has a few cameos, and returning actors and actresses playing different parts. Browder's own wife has three or four guest starring roles in ALL the different makeups. Farscape has something that is sadly lacking in many other sci fi shows. It's hard to put your finger on exactly what it is, as many people argue, but all of the fans agree that it is somehow more fulfilling and enjoyable than the vast majority of other sci fi tv shows. Obligatory: Firefly is an exception that also fills this need. If you ask fans to choose between the two, you will start a war. Don't do it.
Farscape starts out kind of formula and tame, but by the end of the 1st season once they figure out who the characters are and the stories they want to tell it becomes pure awesomeness.
@MandoWookie
9 күн бұрын
Because they used the formula to explore the characters, it was ' we have these wacky characters, & we know what Kirk or Picard would do in this situation, what about Crichton? Kirk would fight, Picard would negotiate, will Crichton try evasion, deception, or will he simply strap a nuke to his @ss dare someone to shoot him?'
I absolutely loved Ben Browder and Claudia Black back in the day in Farscape, and years later had my mind blown to smithereens when Stargate SG-1 hired them both for the later seasons of SG-1 where they continued to be some of the best actors ever in SciFi or any genre. So happy you're watching the show, hope you enjoy it :)
This show really managed to stretch their production budget to support the story telling. All I'm going to say is, you're in for a hell of a ride.
I know the golden rule is ‘Show, Don’t Tell’ but, unfortunately, you just have to accept that D’Argo is a great warrior without seeing any proof of it. The prosthetics for D’Argo were constantly being worked on and improved throughout season one but, at this early stage of production, Anthony Simcoe could barely turn his head while wearing the costume, much less fight in it. (That’s why he has to spin his whole body around to face people.) So, for now, just give D’Argo the benefit of the doubt. 😉

For what you see on the screen, this show was done on the very cheap, they got a lot out of their money too. Occassionally you'll see them reuse effect shots and makeup... One of the tricks they did was make the Leviathan corridors and rooms so they could be easily refurbished for completely new scenery. This might sound like something standard, but in most cases of this (like Trek) the corridors have sections removed for the cameras to move in - not so on Farscape (it's why the rooms and tunnels on Moya are so big). They literally just moved stuff around.
Ben Browder and Claudia Black also team up later in Stargate SG1 seasons, 9 and 10. They are a great acting duo. They play well off each other each..

The first season is good, but the three-part episode "Liars, Guns, and Money" toward the end of season two is peak Farscape. I actually got to hang out with the cast at a party back at the end of season three, and interviewed Ben Browder, Claudia Black, Anthony Simcoe, and Gigi Edgley for a magazine that I worked for at the time. One of the names in this that interests me is the creator/executive producer Rockne S. O'Bannon. His sci fi stuff always has interesting aliens, but his schtick is not evil aliens we have to fight (so human motives are never in question--we are always justified in what we do), but a group of very different aliens who have to work together towards a common goal. Competing motives are always important for him, and sometimes we can come off not so well and aliens can appear more sympathetic. His stuff is about negotiating difference and finding what we have in common. It makes for more complex and interesting plots, better stories.

John's ship was floating in space when the Peacekeeper Prowler hit it with a glancing blow that spun the prowler around enough to cause it to collide with an asteroid...so not John's fault. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. 😢 Moya is a bio-mechanoid lifeform. A living sentient ship. Our crew members are Pilot - the ships navigator and liaison, Ka D'argo - a Luxan Warrior, Rygel the XVIth a Hynerian Dominar, P'au Zotoh Zhaan - a Delvian Priestess, Officer Aeryn Sun - a Peacekeeper Commando of the Plaisar Regiment. Captain Bialar Crais is in charge of the Peacekeeper Command Carrier. Sebacean by race along with Aeryn Sun. 😊 Interstellar = The space or void between stars within the same galaxy. Intergalactic = The space or void between two galaxies such as Andromeda and the Milky Way. 😅 Claudia Black was in the Vin Diesel sci-fi movie Pitch Black which was the first movie in the Chronicles of Riddick trilogy. It was very reminiscent of Ridley Scott's Alien. 😮
Farscape is cooky and weird in the best way ever. Claudia and Ben reunite after this on Stargate SG1 but in the later seasons, but its also a great series. Also the actor is Ben Browder, he was in Guardians of the galaxy as one of the Gold ppl, can't remember their name.

Yay! Farscape! Johnny is a dreamboat
Farscape is amongst my favourite sci-fi series. But fair warning - it isn't always light hearted. It has its dark moments.
I kept thinking, "Well, we finished BSG, what now?" And now you are following up with two of my other favorite sci-fi shows, FarScape and Babylon 5. FarScape started with 'what the hell is this' and quickly snared me because of my love of anything Henson. Babylon 5, my brother and I would get a six pack of IBC root beer, get a pizza, and watch the show while playing Magic: The Gathering during commercials. It was one of our best bonding times and remains one of my happy thoughts all these years later. Effects and makeup just keep getting better as you go. Can't wait to share another journey with you!

Ahhhh B5, the king of sci-fi shows. I believe it might be getting remade too.
John... Ben Browder.... also plays Cameron Mitchell in the later seasons of Stargate SG-1, another GREAT sci-fi show.

Yeah Stargate got good as it went on. A lot of the early episodes had them running around forests in Canada though pretending it was on different worlds! And it mattered not a jot, which is why I shake my head at eejits moaning about effects in big budget tv shows today!
The cute little robots are DRDs- they're biomechanical living things that perform maintenance and repairs for Moya. Moya is a Leviathan - a living Starship kinda like a space whale. No weapons, but a limited shield that the starburst ability to run. Pilot is just that- he's Moya's pilot- a separate being. Sebations are humans in that part of the galaxy. They are the Peacekeepers. You'll learn more about them as things go on.
FINALLY! A reactor is doing the most original, far out, imaginative, magical and (not surprisingly) one of the best science fiction shows ever made. There are some uneven episodes as in all shows of this type but as a whole it is a masterpiece. Can't wait for you to meet Scorpius.

Scorpius is bae
I’m so happy you’re reacting to this show this is one of my favorite shows ever. I was part of the save Farscape movement. Some of the best scifi ever made, I look forward to seeing your reaction. Her name is Winona and she never jams.
Oh frell. Let's goooo!
I love this shownso much. For me, the newness and weirdness never wear off, and it always has elements of "crazy fever dream" in the best ways possible.
Doctor Who, Babylon 5 AND Farscape?? Our cups runneth over!
The difference is Interstellar = Between stars. Intergalactic = Between Galaxies. Farscape was such a good show, the Firefly of its age and the Crichton and Aeryn relatioinship is something you should keep an eye on if you watch more it becomes the soul of the show and the chemistry those two actors had was magic on screen.
Damn this is a blast from the past. If you're doing this then you'd LOVE babylon 5
Angela!!! You’re doing Farscape!?!? 😃😃😃 I really hope you love it. I’m fairly certain you will 😏 It’s true, it’s a little up and down near the beginning. But it’s never bad. It’s such a fun show! The characters are incredible! Even Moya…you’ll come to love her 😊
My level of excitement that you are watching this show is through the roof!! Poor Farscape gets so overlooked when it was some of the best sci-fi media, not just for it's own time, but of ALL time! Plus, muppets! Also I 100% never noticed you had a DRD back there 🤣
Farscape had a unique form of anarchy on set. If anyone had a good idea, from the top writers, actors, and even the caterers, it was used in the show. Ben Browder was also in an episode of Doctor Who. Matt Smith era.
OMG!!! Farscape?! YES!!!! You're going to LOVE this series!!
They start out as puppets and pretty soon they are just another character.
Criminally underrated and often forgotten. It's been years since I watched it, but so so good!
This is an incredible example of good science fiction with truly unique aliens (courtesy of the Jim Henson company and creator Rockne S. O'Bannon) and very diverse, strong female characters. I love it. And there really are some Wizard of Oz parallels. In addition to the whole "Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore" of it, there's also the fact that the main character's arrival resulted in the accidental death of that Peacekeeper commander's brother. And, of course, the quest to get home.
Farscape is far and away my favorite sci-fi TV series ever. The reason is simple - risk-taking. This show never shied away from taking risks that other shows would never dare.
Absolutely excited to follow you on this journey. I only got into farscape 10 years ago and it was a blast for my partner and I. The show feels different compared to most other scifi.
This is one of my absolute favorite series I highly encourage you to follow on with all its seasons this show was absolutely incredible!
My dad and I used to watch this when I was young. I also received the Bluray special edition for Christmas. It's one of my all-time favorite shows. I'm glad you're checking it out.
Farscape is one of the BEST shows ever aired! It continually broke new ground while surprising and delighting the audience. It is a WILD ride and worth every single minute of it!
Oh, didn't now this was coming. Very nice.
This is my all time favorite show. Best Alien design of all time. Also, this is Brian Henson. Jim wasn't involved, though they do use designs developed while Henson was alive.
Farscape is the "space shit" you've been looking for and the "space shit" we all deserve. Have fun.
BSG was filmed in Canada and showcased some great canadian character actors, Farscape was filmed in Australia and showcases some great Aussie character actors.. Claudia Black and Virginia Hey for starters
Fucking love this show!!!!!! woohoo!!!!! aawwwww, i heart you. :D this is def my speed - i do well when there's a hint of comedy in my space shit; like i love bsg and the expanse, but i tend to prefer lighter hearted fare normally because i need t hat lightness. B5 i could never really get into myself - but i know plenty that love it. DW i loved the first season but they lost me later, so i'll prolly only stick around for a couple seasons of that... ooohhh, i like the flg title screen. your cursing will nicely adapt from frak to frell... lol translator microbes are much preferential to me than babelfish, just sayin... like i love hitchhiker's guide, but i'd rather this than a fish in my brain. FYI, the guy whose brother was killed is named Crais (you called him "goatee", lol), and he also voices Pilot. :) Crichton is played by Ben Browder. He took over the main lead in SG1 after Macgyver left... lol. And I'd never thought about it before, but you're right, he was chris evans before chris evans, lol... I didn't even clock Murray Bartlett from TLOU. And when i went and looked him up I realized he also played Mouse in the latest Tales of the City season and was in S1 of the White Lotus (i watched S1, but wasn't really interested in S2 so far, it's something i have to be in the mood for). Claudia Black - will always be Aeryn Sun to me. and i mean, this show is a quarter century old... it's like when we were kids watching stuff from the 60's (remember mr. ed the talking horse). I was early mid 20's when i watched it, just graduated from college and the bf and i moved to Vegas (the first time). also, yes, love the 90's style, it was the best... OP, like OPLA or the anime? because i am all in on OPLA and absolutely loved it, couldn't do the anime, i did try - 3 times... i did watch 3 animes recently, which was surprising... i think the space shit show AFTER these big ones (B5, DrW, Farscape), my vote is For All Mankind or something in the new trek universe if you aren't watching those (SNW or LD - LD is one of the few animated shows i love)... Red Dwarf and The Orville are pretty good, but i don't think RD would be your thing, it's also old AF...

Thank You Shannon. This show and Babylon 5 are my favorite older shows... "Space Sh!t" as Angela would say 🌻✌️😸
Farscape was one of my favorite shows, still is in fact. Thank you for letting us watch this again, for the first time, through your eyes. Enjoy the ride!
Seeing that thumbnail was a highlight of my day. Yes it is a little dated (4:3 Ratio, i kind of miss you), but it is getting crazy wild in the late seasons. WTF stories with epic scale and memorable flawed characters.
I am SOOOOO excited for this! No one does Farscape and I think you will love it! Thank you for keeping me entertained. Edit: And now having watched your reaction, I am getting that feeling like I have just run into a bunch of old friends.
Farscape...Really?! WOW. This show is pretty bizarre and not everyone's cup of tea. It might be more than a bit "out there" but I absolutely love it. Hopefully, you will, too. Top-tier Science Fiction, all the way.
Farscape Continues! I'm so happy you're watching this.
