Daleks appeared in the 2nd ever story back in 1963. To us oldies, even slight hints of a Dalek, whether it’s the eye glow in the dark, or the characteristic electronic “heartbeat”, can give us a shiver of fear up the spine as if we’re 5 years old again peeking at the telly from behind the sofa. Every Doctor (except maybe the 8th who only had one episode televised) has faced the Daleks, they’re major players in the universe. If you feel like dipping into Classic Who ( maybe between seasons of New Who) you could try the 4th Doctor story Genesis of the Daleks, for reasons that might be apparent from the title 😸)

His main goal is to create the next Bird, and he has gotten to an extreme where physical, mental torture as acceptable. He's not a psychopath, but thinks that he needs to be a psychopath to get what he wants.To him, berating, abusing, harming people is just a tool. I admittedly haven’t kept up with Doctor Who for the last few years, but I’ve watched 4 different Doctors,and this is kind of a controversial opinion but, in a lot of ways, Christopher Eccleston is actually my favorite. He’s easily the most underrated Doctor in my opinion
@TheRealRedAce4 сағат бұрын
That was the most powerful episode I have seen, and the one that got me watching this programme again after years. This series was great. Shame that Chris Eccleston didn't do more series. It WAS just the Daleks and time Lords in the time war. The doctor had to destroy his own race to end the terrible threat of the Daleks. Imagine how that felt. It explains his emotional reaction. Getting rid of Daleks (and Time lords, for that matter) for good is sort of difficult as they can simply time travel from BEFORE you got rid of them! Christopher Eccleston has a strong Lancashire accent. One of my favourite lines from the show: "If you're an alien, how come you have a Northern accent?" The Doctor: (indignant) "My planet had a North!" I think you have Elon Musk bang to rights. He almost IS the billionaire in this episode! Amazing that the writers seem to have predicted him so accurately. British genius? Depends on the accent. As comedian Mike Harding once said: Can you imagine a Brummie (Birmingham) brain surgeon: "We gonna sawr ole in yer ead an tek yer brains oot, like."

Yakuza Is awesome. It's far more popular in Japan than in the US, and most games are in Japanese with English subs and there is a lot of Japanese culture in it and that turns off some people. The stories always made me laugh and cry each game and have a lot of things you wouldn't expect from a Japanese Mafia beat em up game. Maybe watch a KZread reviews of of Yakuza 0, they're usually minimal spoilers and I can give you a better idea of how quirky the game actually is. Short jumps backward in time become locked off as future events are established. If they didn't already jump backwards based on the known future, they can't forcibly do it - unless it's somehow obscured and doesn't rewrite the future. The show sort of established these ground rules over the decades so you can't just undo something that just happened, but then again every rule can sometimes be bent.

Yes, Daleks were in the original "Classic" Who. In fact, they showed up in episode two and have been the long-running enemy in the show. But I'll stop there. You didn't want context, just a "yes or no" answer.
@klaxoncow7 сағат бұрын
Christopher Eccleston did have a minor part in "Heroes" at one point, if you've never checked that one out (that show's first season is awesome, but then it rapidly fell apart, due to the writers' strike, and never recovered). But, actually, he tends to act in more "serious" non-sci-fi shows mainly. He's normally in gritty working-class dramas and that sort of thing. He's, like, a proper Thespian. That's why he's so damn good at acting. Indeed, it was kind of a coup to get him in playing the Doctor originally. I guess, at the time, he was good friends with RTD and was willing to give it a shot - though it was definitely NOT his "modus operandi" up to that point. But, well, as is well documented, this relationship seems to have very much soured. He only stayed for one season - contractual obligation - and then, for the longest time, refused to have anything to do with Doctor Who. He has mellowed a little recently, confirming it's not so much the show - he perfectly enjoyed playing the part and still feels proud of the show - but that it was his relationship with RTD and the producers. They must have mistreated him badly somehow - though we've never been told the details - because Christopher's most recent statement was along the lines of: "I'll only come back to the show when RTD (and some of the producers) are gone". So his anger is not at the show itself, but its management and RTD as show runner. He hates them (for undisclosed reasons but it sounds like mistreatment / betrayal for him to hold such a grudge for all this time), but has said he would return for a cameo, if they had nothing whatsoever to do with it. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen now, as RTD has become show runner again (and the producers he named are back producing it again) and, worse, it's under RTD's production company "Bad Wolf" (yes, he named it after the reference you've been hearing throughout series 1). Though, ultimately, it is a BBC property, just produced by "Bad Wolf", so it could go back to being BBC-produced and Chris shows up in a cameo. But, at the rate things are going, that's going to be for the 100th anniversary episode, at least.

I think the reason so many of us were disappointed or even upset that this wasn't the second episode watched is because this is such an absolutely _perfect_ second episode story. It grows _all_ of the characters, particularly Moya, who hadn't had as much character development in the other episodes watched on this channel so far. And the story just fits so well in the very early episodes: Get the guy who only met aliens a couple of days ago to make accidental first contact with an isolated alien culture that mistakes him for a vanguard of an alien invasion. 15:29 "When [Zhaan] gets angry, she's scary." .*nervous laugher ensues*. Yeah, watch out for that one, she's feisty. A strong contender for the most badass, peace-loving, warrior-monk in sci-fi. 😢 I just found out that the actor who played Lyneea died a couple years ago, drowned at 61 after surviving cancer in the late 2000s.

So a little bit of introductory alchemy and Jungian psych. The Magnum Opus, aka "The Great Work", is the formation of the Philosopher's Stone. Jung studied the resurgent alchemists that incorporated a lot of Hermeticism and other occult practices. The process of Individuation in Jungian Psych is likened to this creation of the Philosopher's Stone, wherein the Shadow (the unconscious aspects of self not acceptable to the Ego and Persona) is brought to consciousness and fully integrated. I - Nigredo - Black - The Piece of the Void - It takes that facing the Shadow to begin the process. II - Albedo - White - The Purification - The Confrontation with the Shadow through the Long Dark Night of the Soul, raising that which was hidden to consciousness. III - Rubedo - Red - The Philosopher's Stone - Full individuation where all of the Self is accepted and integrated. This is the quick and dirty version so you can see these themes throughout the anime. The author of the manga studied Alchemy, and there are clues throughout that aren't shouted from the rooftops, you need to know the literature and the symbols and images to see how deep she actually went with it. Max Derrat here on KZread is also an Alchemist and I've been deep diving his videos for a while now. I'm still studying, of course, and I can't call myself an Alchemist yet, just like it takes a while for the physics student to undergo a form of metanoia and Become a Physicist. An important point to make sense of what you saw in this video, in Jung's model of the Self some parts of the Unconscious are Personal, and some are Collective. The Collective Unconscious is shared by us all. ...Like that data stream that Ed saw. Oh! One note, without any context or spoilers: one of the most important alchemists (in real life) ever was a guy named Paracelsus, who was born with the name Theophrastus von Hohenheim. His father was Wilhem *Bombast* von Hohenheim.

The puppeteers did an excellent job with Rygel and Pilot. Sean Masterson use to come into the IRC chat on Sci-Fi's chat server all the time and we'd ask him about the puppeteering process for Pilot. It took like 4-6 people (depending on what kind of scene) to operate him. Sean's voice was the voice that the actors actually responded to on the set, while for the final production Lani Tupu would ADR dub Pilot. You can thank Sean's performance for Rygel in the scene in this episode :).
