I enjoy watching you work with your dad. Lost my dad at 88 years old in 2008 and I still miss working with him.

I've been loving these videos. Hope your eye is healing. I've noticed you been letting dad do the tractor driving and lifting. Good knowing you are taking care of yourself and Senior is participating in your recovery. Thanks for bringing us along. I've plowed many an acre with my dads 3 disc John Deer breaking plow. It did much the same job as a Moboard plow but roller the disc. It also had the wheel lift rope pull. I've worn out a few ropes myself.

It looked like the ground had just the right moisture content for working it up. It was fun watching the M pulling the sub-soiler!

That was a real treat to see the subsoiler in action with GREAT camera angles. Hard freezing this winter should mellow out some of the compaction from the tractor tires. Like the old saying about plowing, the worst job of plowing in the Fall is still better than the best job in the Spring.

The Super M sounds great, looks great. Takes me back to when you two were pulling cylinder liners out of the egg-shaped holes in the short block.

My dad always told me that plowing a garden once in a while helps the garden. He been gone many years. I try to remember everything he taught me about gardening. I wish I had small tractor with a one bottom plow to do it with.

Senior's spot on - I blow dry my Husky riding mower after nearly every use. Their open frames collect grass clippings with can block the movement of the hydro transmission 'lever' or actuating arm just behind the engine mounting area. My grandpa always made the point it is easier and cheaper to clean your equipment after every use. You also are looking it over every time for indicators of potential problems.

Clean equipment is easier to inspect and attracts less moisture for corrosion.

Isn’t it amazing how much capital equipment it takes to run a farm? Thank heavens that old stuff still works.

I love those old machines, their simplicity, and the fact a genius designed and built a simple and well working unit. And that nice little “M” just chugging along at an idle with not a care in the world, now tell me how you like the new stuff better, I don’t, this is the oldies I enjoy.

Electronics and hydraulics are just the ticket for a lot of jobs but if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it and if simple works, don’t reinvent it. I can’t imagine that any modern contraption could do the job at hand any better than this vintage farm helper. I’m glad you rethought your decision to try fall planting of the Go-Pro crop. It’s been proven that fall planting doesn’t give you any advantage over springtime planting. Get the seeds in in mid April and before long you’ll see the tiny lenses poking up from the beds. Sr has still got the knack for running the old equipment. 🥸👍👀✅

Broccoli Rabe in the fall is the best time to plant

It's a little hard to notice at the start, but by about 10:45 it's pretty clear that the soil is getting real broken up by how deep the super M's wheels are sinking into the dirt versus at the very start. Another little idea that could be done to help boost the productivity of the garden plot would be to collect as much saw mill dust and ashes from the wood stove. Mix those together and spread them over before roto-tilling. Kinda like drying and crushing in egg shells. I would suggest shrimp and crab shells if you were closer to the ocean and availability were higher.

Beautiful fall foliage colors and another great video! On a personal note, my Dad taught me to wipe off the excessive grease from thè zerk when done. He was a neat nut like me and said the excess grease would just collect dust and dirt and get caked up. Just a friendly heads-up so he doesn't give you the stink-eye too. LOL 😅😅😅 Seriously, great content as usual!

While I miss seeing you out there operating, it’s good to see senior getting some seat time. Hoping for a great report from the doctor on the first!

I finally got my dad's old IH B250 diesel out of storage, thanks for motivating me to get on it!

Very satisfying to watch.

My uncle use to rototill his garden. Got so the carrots were 1 1/2 in in dia and 4 inches long. When I got my tractor I moldboard plowed it 8 inches deep. Problem solved.

This reminds me of the BBC "Wartime Farm" episode where they tried to improvise a subsoiler based on a UK wartime design and completely underestimated the forces involved. If they'd been KZreadrs they probably would have used the resulting metal pretzel to reengineer their design but it was broadcast so the end result was hardpan 1 farmers 0. How close you're willing to get to that fence directly correlates to how much time you're willing to spend rebuilding it.

Senior has been on a Tractor at least once before, great job Senior. 😃

I remember when I was younger a neighbor has a old ground driven sub soiler it was huge it had 4 foot steel wheels on it I bet that the shank would have about 3 feet long with a chain hooked to it with a 6inch steel ball on the end it could make a tractor work in heavy ground

Crisp Autumn day, beautifull Autumn colours, pity we can't smeel the engine working.

I don't blame him I'd be doing that too after the wash up can't have any water seeping into the trans and diff areas. The M acted like it was pulling an empty stone boat. No grunting what so ever and smooth never seen a subsoiler work so slick.

Great job 💪 the M just purring along 👌 over here 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 usually if we sub soil at this time of year we just leave it open for the winter let the frost into the ground and break the soil up naturally an it also helps drainage if we have a wet winter 🤔 really nice working sub soiler that 💪

Any moisture you get now will be able penetrate deeper in the ground that subsoiler is a really cool tool and I must say you have really nice sandy soil and it doesn’t really stick to the tires 😀🇨🇦

The real close ups, if you play them at 0.25x you can see the soil heaving, like a continuous earthquake. Really something to watch. Also Senior is a skilled operator in anything he gets in the seat of!

My dad pulled a 3 bottom plow in good black Iowa soil with his Super M so that sub-soiler is a real easy pull.

I like the sound coming from the diff on that M.

that sub soil plow really works nice ,I got a garden that needs that treatment bad ,I am going to go on the hunt for one ....the m is running like a fine watch ........

Put some wings on that tip and you will get a larger soil fracture area.

Had a old John Deere subsoiler much like your Ih one but converted it to 3 point with a 18 inch cultivator sweep on the point talk about lifting the soil. Wow pulled lack of bear at 24 inches deep.

That trip mechanism is really cool.I dont think i've ever seen anything like it -with a single control action at least.

@@squatch253 Wow that many? I had no idea! Maybe not many made it to australia? Here most small implements were TPL type,i guess from Ferguson's domination of the small tractor market. And the larger implements used the big manual levers for lift. IH style lift linkage is rare too. Its a very different vintage scene here.When i watch your tractor show videos i'm amazed at the sheer number and variety of machines

Nice work, I don’t have to use a subsoiler where I am in Michigan, my fields are all muck. Anywhere from 5' to 30' deep. I pushed a shallow well down for watering crops, first 20' went fast and easy, then had to get through the peat layer. That was hard.

You get a good snow melt down in there and you get some deep water in that soil

Hi Squatch Hows the eye healing up? Noticed that a few other tubers have had eye injuries recently. Throughout the UK during the war 39-45 were using subsoilers with a bullet style plow bottom to break up pasture so they could plant crops like wheat and barley, It really broke up the hard pan

Very handy tool. Fun to watch it work up close like that. My brothers wive's family have the modern version of a subsoiler for their farms. Works well as advertised.

That ought to help the garden. I wish I had done that to my small garden plot i recently moved.

Need to procure yourself a mole plow attachment for your subsoiler. It will make a tunnel for the water to break up the hard pan. It will make the tractor work too!

Those cleats are working great, even covered in soil. The vertical shots on my big screen make me dizzy. Whee!

A two shank might make that M think a little bit. 🙂

as someone whose never been around this farm type equipment i'd love a walk thru that explains how that trip mechanism works both for the up and down.

I’ve never seen one of those. The idea is to mix up compacted soil? Sort of like the big chisel plows used in corn country today. I can’t imagine the rocks I’d hit up here😳.

There were reasons farmers turned their soil and dug down deep. It wasn't to find rocks and roots.

So that subsoiler is like a cultivator then health break up the ground without really tearing it too far apart, right?

Just curious. Is there clay in your area ? We had clay, but it took a post digger to find it. Sadly i drive past home, and see it on top. The old style of farming didn't encourage erosion. Thank you.

How far apart are you trying to subsoil? On a modern ripper shanks are 24”-30” apart typically. To get that kind of width you would most likely have to drive over the last shank pass thus adding compaction back in.

Was the wax and tire shine done off camera? 😂

Please show us how the garden does next year now that the plot has been all broken up.

You can tell it's the super M cause of the whining hydraulic noises 🙃. But regardless of that the subsoiler is one of the best investments.
