"There is an indescribable calm that comes with the methodical loading ritual of these fine firearms... ....a meditative, zen like state is achieved when interacting with these finely fashioned pieces of steel and wood. ... Traditional muzzleloading is a vacation from the norm a reprieve from modern chaos."

This is exactly what this sport needs. More of this. Brotherhood, camaraderie, historical fun with great folks. Cooking out together. Jokes, banter, challenges, gear, etc. By God, if that doesn’t make you wanna be there, you’re a dead stump. Let’s burn some powder and spit some lead, brothers!
There's just something about that unique sound a Muzzle Loader makes.

And the smell.
I've always dreamed of being part of a shoot like this. I love traditional muzzle loadin.
For those who travel the rendezvous circuit, the Flathead Valley Muzzleloaders spring rendezvous is always the third weekend in May. Fall Rendezvous is the third weekend in September, fire season permitting. There are also monthly shoots, second Saturday in the month, as long as it doesn't conflict with other area rendezvous.
I think I've watched this video at least 5 times lol man that looks fun! Great job on the video!

Glad you enjoy it! Check out the other shoots.
Greetings from Australia to my American friends! You fellows sure know how to have fun! This was so enjoyable and relaxing to watch!
Ran across an article in a St. Louis newspaper interviewing Samuel Hawken, who stated that the early Hawken rifles were flintlock rifles until the percussion lock became popular, (around 1835).

Flintlock rifles are still in use in parts of the Appellation mtns
Dude you're videos are addictive. I'm a Mountain Man enthusiast; as well as, a Living Historian and Reenactor and admire the work you guys do in keeping History alive. Maybe one day I'll get to a rendezvous but for now I live on the eastern seaboard. But all that being said you got me excited to keep practicing with my new Hawken.

Plenty of events to do back east. Don't wait, they need your participation. You will learn and share so much. Get a shirt and britches and haul your gun out.
I just had to watch this one again. There's nothing like a nice flintlock or caplock rifle and everything else that goes with the times . Sure wish I could join I'd love to go with y'all ! Thanks Denny !
Now THAT’S America! Beautiful film work and editing too; you make this collection of horse thieves look pretty good.

It’s a great tradition at that shoot!
I really like the quote in the description. Reprieve from modern chaos is exactly the way I think of it. Well done.

I enjoy filming it as well. I will always bring the camera and show you guys how to work it.
Congrats on this nice video. I think it nicely captures the general atmosphere at that shoot and gathering very well. Admire the dress up of the participants to get that early 1800's feeling. Would wish I that I could go out to a empty place in our woods (if I could find any) and shoot a flintlock rifle myself at leisure just for fun in my country. Greeting from the Netherlands.

9:12 the volley we all like
Man I love that sound of the rifle's echoing through the woods. Sounds like thunder. That volley at the beginning was epic..... Who is the grizzled old gentilman at 2:24. He really looks the part. Do you guys have a "best dressed" award for the most period correct outfit? If not you should. Some of those guys look like they just stepped out of history.

Ugh! I wish it weren't so danged far from Miles City to the Flathead Valley. I used to shoot with the Jefferson County Long Rifles in PA and I miss this. There is nothing like this in eastern Montana that I have found yet. I know there is a group in the Lewistown area, but that is still a drive.
