I had a 42 F-24 for almost 15 years. (N1276N) This video sure brought back sweet memories. Divorce forced sale. I think it is in Texas now.

Good news ... After many months of hard work, the Fairchild has officially been declared airworthy by an IA. I am in the process of closing the airframe and reinstalling the interior. If all goes well and the weather cooperates, I hope to perform the first flight next weekend, (1st weekend of December). I can't believe it has taken two years to get to this point. We are very excited about getting this old classic back in the air. Wish us Luck!

Absolutely wonderful! I'd rather have a '24 than ANY Wichita spam can.

The used to be one of these at Carnarvon when I was a kid. Sadly I later learned it ended on a sandy beach, bogged below high tide mark, was ruined and abandoned.

Pulling the prop through before starting is standard practice on most old radial engines. When the engine is shut down, all of the oil in the crankcase drains into the bottom cylinders. The oil bypasses the piston rings and gets into the combustion chambers. This can create what is known as a liquid lock. If you try to start the engine without verifying that there is no oil pooled in the cylinders a bent connecting rod can be the result. Good bye $25K engine. Simplified version ...

That is definitely more motor than the 145 hp Warner they came with. Is that a 300 hp Jacobs?

Looks like only two seats, but I think it has four (and enough power for four).
