It's amazing to see this beautiful machine still flying. My dad, Dee Cullum, spent 11 years of my childhood restoring that plane in his garage in the late sixties and early seventies in Vallejo, California. His attention to detail was excruciating. He sourced parts from as far away as South Africa, and he had to machine many of the engine parts himself (because they just weren't available); this was a lot more difficult in the pre-internet days. In 1976, we towed it out of the garage to the local airport, where the wings were attached and the real fun began. Go, NC1479er4!!

This Fairchild is 84 years old. The same engine ! This is awesome. This is flying art. What a rare thing to fly in this plane. You are an amazing and lucky man, Dewey. In a way, it’s reliving and experiencing life long ago.

By 1938 the greasing of the rockers must have been engineered out. The 145 Warner in the 38 Ryan SCW no longer needed greasing and had a full engine cover.

Love your videos, Dewey. So well thought out, so well accompanied with commentary and uplifting music, and of course, so chock-full of amazing aviation at serious HD quality. I've been motion-sick from other guy's videos, they're shot so poorly, but yours are so well done there's never been a problem.

I designed, drew and built a 1/4 Scale KR-21 Bipe From the original Blueprints. I love the way the 24 gear squats as it unloads the flying speed, very cool.

Very nice job Dewey, We appreciate you bringing this to us. This means a lot as we are finishing up a 10.5 year restoration on our 1934 C8-C here in Orlando. We just hung the wings last weekend. There are still lots of little things left to do like wheel pants, wing gap fairings, and the top OH on the Warner engine. We hope to have it going by the end of 2019. This video provides us with inspiration overtime we watch it. Thanks, Rick

Thanks so much Rich. I keep having fun so I'll continue doing the videos. I'm glad that there are some people out there rebuilding the antique aircraft such as you. If I get in the Orlando area I would like to stop by and maybe interview and see your restoration, if that would be fine with you.

Dewey-- The video part of this looks quite good, and as some have mentioned, the drone shots are great. But as you mentioned about audio being "not so great"--- 1) The music volume vs. speech volume is a pain. Yes you turn down the music when talking is about to begin, but dialog is so quiet that one must keep remote in hand and constantly work the volume button. 2) When he powers up for takeoff, that is NOT a time to bring up the music! In fact it may be a time to mute it completely. Thankfully you quickly edited to an outside shot with engine sound in forefront. 3) Your headset's mic tone is very abrasive, specifically in the 2.5 to 3 kHz range. The mics you use on the ground and the music playback do not have this problem, so am pointing to the DC mics. You can find someone in your area to show you how to massage this audio while you're editing. That said, I'm sure some will be whining about choice of music, or having music at all. Piffle I say! Music is a good enhancement to many things in life, including flying, and this music is pretty nice. Just needs to be tamed in volume.

Why is it not running with a cowling then to help stop the oil splutter? Gorgeous plane yet cleaning the screen would start to grate on me.. I love this design. I come back to this video for a dream quite often.

So this video was posted just over a year ago, on May 26,2017, correct? WWI occured b/t 07/28/1911 and 11/11/1914, and if we estimate Andrew was a young 18, in 1914. That would put him at roughly 120+ years old today, correct? I'm not being argumentative, I'm just blown away by you're saying he "ferries", as in currently active, that's why I asked if it might've been WWII. You need to do videos with him, while we're still blessed by his presents at his age and still flying as of about a year ago.
