    I, too, was thinking "R 2800? Can't be! Prop too small, cowl too small." I used to fly the Howard 500 with my dad, an R 2800 business twin from the 60s/70s (there's actually one beautiful, show-winning, heart-stopping example still flying), so I know the immensity of the engine, BUT I mistakenly had old and Pratt & Whitney in my mind, too! So, this is absolutely awesome, georgeous, just beyond word's ability to really describe! Good were gettin back to some wonderful, old ways!

    I think it looks GREAT! cowling looks perfect, and the 3 blade at around 67 inches is exactly the right prop.........amazing how people try to down grade a beautiful project, by pretending they know something, when they really don't .........

    Isn't this, in essence a 'Murphy Mini Moose'? ;) This looks to be a meticulous example of a lovely plane, bravo guys.

    @pbwhy Yes, this was what we were shooting for. Mini Moose and the Murphy Moose, both painted in the same scheme and the intention was to hit the airshow circuit with both airplanes........ unfortunatly that didn't happen.

    Yes, the Rebel would be great with the R3600 Rotec radial engine. We would of used the R3600 but it was not available at the time.

    it is a Rotec R2800 for sure its only good for 100 - 110 Hp depending on fuel and tune.

  • @murphyaircraft
    @murphyaircraft14 жыл бұрын

    @paullubliner If the Nieuport 16 was nose heavy with a 110hp engine, I'm sure it'll be extra nose heavy with the Rotec R3600. But I'm sure with the right calculations it can be done.

    It's a Rotec R2800 in cubic centimeters not cubic inches. Google it. They make a nine cylinder too!

    I am the owner of this aircraft now. Since I bought it in 2015, the Rotec radial has been nothing but trouble and has resulted in two emergency landings. On the last occasion the engine seized in mid air destroying itself in the process. It is now being replaced with a reliable Lycoming.

    This plane is way too clean. Bush planes need to have scratches, dings and dirt on them to be legit.
