At 50:00 seconds "Men don't cry." That there is salient moment when compared to the British Army training today, however regarding the larger picture we must remember the German and Japanese views of our Western society then and eventually we did not let anyone down. I believe its a balance between having a proficient and professional set of Forces without impinging on society at large, hope you understand me, thanks again Sir 🙏☃️

Considering how disorganized the Russian military was after the Cold War, I'm sure these videos put out by RT are more for internal Russian consumption and for civilians from the outside looking in and don't know any better, than trying to impress anyone else. There are a lot of Russians of how much Russia has improved on everything from quality of life, to technology and the military compared to 30 years ago.

My Uncle Larry served in Vietnam. He said after a retreat from a fire fight, they realized back at base they were missing someone in his squad. They found him a few days later and I won't go into detail what the Viet-cong did to the poor guy, but, He said if it ever came down to surrender or die, He said he gladly would die and not surrender. He told me too, if a war ever started and found myself in it, He said don't surrender just die fighting. So I don't blame that speznaz, may he rest in piece. That is if he did past away. All the health tests, fitness tests, firearm proficiency, hand-to-hand combat skills, it had all been checked prior. These men on the video already met all the other requirements. It happened that when receiving awards, warriors had the choice of becoming a hero of the Russian Federation or choosing to wear a maroon beret, and they chose him. A good soldier cannot be made by the army he joins. A good soldier is made by the culture of a country. A good soldier cannot be made at the age of 18, but training starts from being born in a family. The army only teaches a man how to use weapons. And the willingness to despise death comes from families, countries that do not have such a culture cannot make a good soldier, no matter how well trained he was in the army.

When I went to basic training in 1985 we had a guy by the name of George Francovich. He was from the Soviet Union, however he had to serve under Russian trainers. He NEVER EVER complained about anything. He couldn't understand why American soldiers complained about everything. He thought the food was excellent. He told us the Russian "drill Sergeants" hated them because they were Soviet Union. He said they were made to run in what we call full mop gear for some crazy distance. I believe I remember him saying they even used something other than tear gas to teach them that you better learn to put the gear on quick or your screwed. He also said his dream was to open an American brothels'.

These guys are Russian National Guards, based on the crimson berets. That means they are more of a police special tactics unit, although that isn't completely accurate since it's applying a western concept to a Russian unit. National Guard Spetsnaz conduct primarily counter-terrorist operations, but that can also include overseas deployments. From my understanding from Russians, the SVR probably has the highest training and standards (possibly an equivalent to the CIA's Direct Action Group). However, it seems that the FSB has the most feared, though that is probably in large part due to FSB's role as an interior security agency and descendant of the KGB. Americans tend to categorize Spetsnaz almost like it's a unit, but it isn't. It's a term. Many different agencies in Russia have 'Spetsnaz' units. These vary widely in training, mission and competencies. It goes back to the Soviet-era when everything was ultra-compartmentalized due to different directors and political figures wanting to maintain their own secrecy and autonomy. Every department developed its own 'security forces' and often 'Spetsnaz' so that it didn't have to work or share secrets/operations with other departments. There have been some changes to this (such as consolidating MVD into National Guard), but it's still pretty prevalent.

I dunno how it's now in Russia, but in my time when at school the last two years we had military training lessons every week. We did throw grenades imitations, ran the stadium in gas masks, had to pass a test disassemble/assemble AK (I think I had 43 seconds to pass the test) In the end there was a week camp in an army formation. Where we did drills, shoot AK at a range and so on. At the same time all girls were trained as nurses with a week practice in a hospital. Also, the last two years students at schools in towns had a truck driving course, us in a village we had wheel tractor/caterpillar course. When we finished school most of us had driver's license class 1 . So, when we had to go to serve in the army we were basically prepared for that and knew the stuff needed to start the service. We could already drive trucks, shoot AK and had an idea how was that to jump up at 4 am when a siren screams alarm.

Something I think is a common theme with all respectable SF Forces around the world, is the unique way in which they evaluate candidates. And I think, if I remember correctly, JT has pointed this out before. Most SF Courses look for candidates with a very specific profile to fit into a specific small-team setup. These guys have to be elite in fitness and endurance, but more importantly they have to be able to operate under any condition within a small team, and completely trust each other... I think the whole "Rambo" image of SF Forces is all Hollywood BS image... in reality these guys look just like your next door neighbor (indirectly quoting JT), slender, sinewy build, but mentally tough and super cool (level-headed) in extreme situations... Always interesting to see how "different" but at the same time "similar" these SF selection courses are conducted. Thanks JT, another great video!

the eval method is interesting since one cannot write it on a check list or do a power point on it. its a look the candidate makes. the sigh, the rolling of eyes. instructors know when someone is hurt or doing it for effect. i know a few fellows who got special treatment (i will call it) when going through selection. Hurt enough to get dropped. Instrucgtors looked out for them after hours since they were what they wanted. other guys with the same problem got dropped.

It is test for Crimzon Beret - a special headwear for members of National Guard, Police and Prison Guards (last is a rough translation of ФСИН - Federal Service of Executing Sentences or smthg like that). So it's not really a military unit, it's more of local troops to be used inside of the country. And what you watched is not really a Spetsnaz (at least if I remember everything right). In case it's not clear this is just the selection to be a basic Spetsnaz. Spetsnaz are a huge bunch of units (30.000+ men) which simply mean "special soldier". Within the Spetsanz then there are a variety of other specialities among which paratroopers and the real elite highly trained units like Spetsnaz Alfa-Gruppa and Spetsnaz-Vympel. Vympel is basically a highly trained grout of state assassins that are capable,of killing in cold blood like when they took part in the siege of the royal palace in Afghanistan in the first phases of the 1978 invesion and killed everybody in the building including staff, cooks and maids.

Hello from U.S., not sure if you are aware but Serbia is gaining a lot of respect with the production of their proprietary AK variants from Zastava weapons factory. They are really well built guns, you should be proud.

Anyone that's had a hard enough punch to the head, getting that dazed thing, and still able to remember it, knows what it's like to be full of adrenaline and not be able to see properly. You're trying to figure out what's infront of you, and where the guy that just punched you is, so you're trying to fix your blurred vision as fast as possible. I've very rarely been in fights, but the scary part is that moment. Because you know that you're in a fight, and that you're defenses are completely down because your brain / senses, have stopped functioning properly. Looking at the men fighting at the end got me thinking, how many of them are still swinging, without knowing where to aim because they can't see properly after being punched in the head.

@@JamesonsTravels I'm guessing a lot of it was more for moral. As in being a badass, doing stunts like you see in movies, because a lot of military preparation during peace time, I'm guessing needs something to keep soldiers motivated. And you do feel like an action hero, as a young man, doing manly things that normal people are able to do. I wonder if they didn't show them doing squad tactics for security reasons.

@@MichaelSellers5691 Isn't that a common misconception nowadays? InRangeTV, Military Arms Channel and multiple others have all done mud and dirt tests with high quality ARs and AKs, that seemingly show that they perform pretty similarly under those conditions, although suffering from different issues when dirty.

So imagine - every grown male have some kind basic training. That guy jumping on that car and kicking the windshield in was on a whole nother level...😐 I'd be too worried with hurting someone with the broken glass I have a broken glass phobia from an accident when I was a kid with a fish tank that fell on me and sliced my face wide open. 31 years old and you can still very clearly see the scar.
