This is not Spetsnaz, this is a police unit of the SOBR, as in US SWAT SOBR was formed on February 10, 1992, and was subordinated to the "Directorate for combating the Organized Crime" under the Russian Interior Ministry (MVD). SOBR units were composed of senior-ranking police officers, better trained than the members of OMON (which is a cross between riot police and paramilitary police), and tasked with SWAT type special operations under the jurisdiction of MVD. The primary function of SOBR is to combat against organized crime, with additional roles including anti-terrorism. They also fought during the wars in Chechnya and Daghestan.

It is true only what I disagree with this is SPECNAZ. In Russia (and old Soviet Union) every special forces is call SPECNAZ. In Soviet union had Specnaz about 500.000 man in service. But was very big differenc between specific units and departmans. And it is very wrong to compare these units in vide with SAS, DEVGRU, Delta etc. You can only pick one specific unit and this unit compare but not Specnaz as a whole.

@@JamesonsTravels Yes, sir. There is a lot of truth in this film since after the collapse of the Soviet Union the army was completely destroyed, the population was drunk. My father fought in Afghanistan and after the collapse of the USSR it was difficult for him to find a job (it’s just when employers found out that he served in hot spots, then they refused to communicate with him) as he told me if he hadn’t met my mother he would have become an alcoholic from the despair. And this applies not only to retired military personnel but also to Chernobyl liquidators. My uncle (my mother’s brother) then served in the police in Chernobyl and was the driver of the local colonel. As he says that they suffered and still suffer. The man who served in Afghanistan, Chechnya, is responsible for himself, and the Chernobyl liquidators have ruined not only their health, but also the health of their children (and most likely grandchildren) and of course he is still addicted to alcohol. In my hometown today the population is only about 20 thousand people (I think there weren’t much more in Soviet times) 104 people were liquidators (half died long ago) "Putin’s state" doesn’t support them as much as they survive only thanks to the Union public organization Chernobyl of Russia "in principle, like veterans of Afghanistan, meet once a year with the help of the organization" Russian Union of Afghanistan Veterans "and jointly try to help problem veterans but it is naturally impossible for everyone to help, and "Mr" Putin remembers them as well as any other veterans only when he needs to increase his rating among the military!

The BBC used to be impartial. They’d never be the first to report something as they’d fact check and corroborate but it seems they’ve now got too many people who mistake their own opinions for facts. They could send a great documentary team out on location and distort it in the editing. That’s always been possible but now there’s a distinct pull to the left. The old Soviet military Spetznas were very good. They had a sidearm system where pushing the weapon down out of the holster both freed it for use and chambered a round.

Not denying there is an issue with the media, but it can get blown out of proportion. The left complain about BBC bias and so do the right. If both sides are complaining, maybe bias is not so bad. Accusations of bias sometimes comes down to people not liking that he media may not reinforce their own bias. I have seen people who follow Fox News on social media complain of BBC or CNN bias... totally oblivious to their bias. All media is biased, as are all people. Always been the case. Sometimes the bias is in what is not reported. But the 'fake news' narrative is dangerous because those in power do not want to be scrutinized. Presidents and Prime Ministers want the media undermined so they can avoid scrutiny.

I owned one of those pistols. The model number was IJ-70 "Makarov", manufactured by Baikal. It chambers an uncommon cartridge here in the west, 9X18mm, half way between .380 and 9mm Parabellum. Great little gun. And that is the only sidearm that is issued. They don't really see the need to supply higher capacity or more powerful pistols, I guess the idea being if things have gone so sideways a fighter is down to their pistol, they're better off grabbing a rifle from someone who is down or just trying to escape rather than keep up the fight with a pistol.

17:47 So, ther is some books and films, but i guess they are not translated into English. I have too friends whose fathers was in Spetsnaz, one in GRU and the other from Belorussian group A "Almaz" and yeah, they don't like to talk much.

The word Spetsnaz is too broad; refers to too many units, and i dont think the narrator has enough of a correct perspective. Would be better to separate some of these police style units, from Alpha Group and Vympel. Great differences in capabilities, toughness and mission types, .. between various spetsnaz titled units

I once spent a week in a community correctional center and my bunk mate was a ex Soviet Union soldier (he even fought in the Soviet afgan wars). As I was spending my days conversation going with him he did have the accent but not the deep kind of Russian accent, he had the hammer and sickle tattooed on his back, nice mannered guy but turns into a trouble maker at times to others in the module. That’s all I remember clearly at my time there besides that he elbow dropped someone on my release day for reasons I don’t know

Rather like the Gestapo. If I lived in Russia rather than being into crime, I’d join ones of these units. I’d love it. Basically just get beat and rob and rape the whole country, killing anyone for the highest bidder. Like you arrest some thieves and criminals which ain’t hard to find in such a poor place, but basically organised crime working with the mafia state you would get to fuckin unleash on a lot of people like journalists and people who want political freedom or just beat up and kill homeless for the fun of it. It’s like getting to be a paid state thug. Like here in the U.K. being a criminal you’re against the state (like a serious organised criminal like if you’re selling stuff say like I’ve done before and same in the US where I grew up and spent a year in prison which was hell) the state is against you. Ok, in Russia, you have to kill who the state wants you to, but then like they just go into a gulag full of political and petty criminals and just beat a couple to death for fun. Same reason I’d loved to have been in the SS groups that got so much loot but the Gestapo was operating in a civilised country (so you couldn’t have as much fun targeting anyone you want). These guys are more like the S.A. Yeah you gotta be smart like if you don’t live in a country with any freedom or protection and can be locked up for no reason (country that killed 30 million of its own people in the 20s and 30s accusing poor farmers of being spy’s and saboteurs and agents of the West if they had a piece of bread lol), then you gotta side with the state if you wanna be a thug and a criminal. And who doesn’t love having power and being violent so long as you can stand a chance of getting away with it. I’m only 22 - wonder whether they’d accept a white foreigner. Then again it’s not like learning German or French, but not as hard as Chinese or Arabic. But the funny alphabet might be too much. Plus it’s kind of a shitholle. Like if you’re out all day shaking people down, making sure people who owe you for drug money are paid like in London, I like to be able to go to nightclubs and spend money on nice clothes and get a nice car like do they even have BMWs over there? I’m sure there is but really these guys are kinda just pawns like you’d wanna be in the organised crime / government that controls it
