good tutorial that allows you to get 1-2 early frags. imo the best loadout for phoenix shenanigans would be 4x aim54; 2x aim7; 2x aim9l + flares/chaff. this allows you to still get 1-2 frags with phoenix but also doesn't make you absolutely useless after phoenix launch, allowing you to reliably get 2-3 frags per game

When I had a simple question - how do I use these missiles, I didn't find a normal guide, there are a lot of videos with water for 10 minutes about radars, missile ratings or useless information for long viewing time. But there was no simple video with - assign these buttons and go. This video is about buttons for AIM-54, not about other missile, efficiency or mastering.

The best thing about the Phenoix is, regardless if you hit anything or not, it'll force the enemy team to either hit the deck or scatter, causing them to lose momentum, speed, etc. But then you can get lucky and get up to 6 kills if no one is paying attention or you're up against premium MIG newbies.

Cheapshot guide... There are multiple severe mistakes here! And the 0.3 PK shows that. You shot 6 missiles for 2 kills... Sure these kills are early, but you are left with two AIM-9Ls for the rest if the battle. That's a tremendous waste of F-14B's combat endurance. If you want to use AIM-54, climb to the max altitude without contrail, usually 5500-5700m depending on the map. You will get roughly the same speed of 1.2-1.3M, but you'll be two km above your suggeted position, putting your missile in more favourable conditions. Switch to the narrow TWS serach and watch for the main group of the enemy. This gives your missiles more frequent updates, so it has better mid-flight corrections. You have to maintain the soft lock until the missile is 8km away form the enemy. When you'll be at 27-32km away, yeet the missiles. At 27km distance mark, no matter if you have missiles or not, crank towards your freindlies without breaking the soft lock and head downwards. Preferably to the deck, protecting yourself from the incoming SARH, in case there's R-27ER heading your way. Only when the enemy is roughly 15km away, you can break the soft lock and turn cold because by that time your phoenixes should go pitbull. That way, your missiles are much deadlier. So much so you don't really need to carry all 6 to get early kills. You can bring just two. You'll apply the same pressure on the enemy, but you'll also have 6 missiles left for the rest of the battle.

The configuration with 4 AIM-9L and 4 AIMC-54C or mix with AIM-7M obviously is better, but this is not a "frag movie" with many kills and switches between 54C, 7M and 9L, but a guide with a display of control settings and how to use 54C for easy kills. Best of all, AIM-54C (54A) show themselves in logic - the less concern enemy = more chance to hit. Players are the least attentive between the field and the middle of the map (alt-tab, phone time), which means that it is at this moment missiles get into them best. Wiki tactics (altitude 5km+ and etc) only work in a theoritical spherical vacuum. Here is the reality on another video, launch and turned off the radar, missiles do not need to be soft lock till 15km (even on AIM-54A): kzread.info/dash/bejne/oGmbq4-Rddi1lLA.html Of course, additional AIM-9L would help me in the end, but I just recorded video for fun and proof. How much my guide and tactics are effective for average player, everyone will decide for themselves. If that's enough, be kind to like and subscribe.

@@ShinyThunder "wiki tactics" excuse me? If you have to search the definition of a cheapshots in the wiki, that's your problem, not mine! I have 5000 kills across all rank VIII aircraft in AirRB, to 1600 deaths, and a third of that flight record belongs to Tomcats. 68% winrate on them btw. I DO know how the battles go, and chances are, I know it better than you! That's more than enough to learn the timings of the initial BVR engagements and the correct usage of certain weapons. The altitude is important because Phoenix is trash at low altitude due to the huge cross section it has. It's absolutely useless at low altitude, because it can't accelerate there, and without speed it can't pull as well. This is why it lofts, but it doesn't have to loft if you are high enough. On the flip side, I rarely go above 5600m due to contrails and ability to dive towards the ground for safety. The sneakier you are, the more time it takes for the opponent to notice you, hence greater probability of them being killed. And this altitude you still can also accelerate well enough, so it's not like it wastes a lot of energy for the missile if you compare it with even higher altitude. I shot from about 25-30km because AIM-54 has 30s burn time, and that's roughly the safe distance to defeat an R-27ER with a descending A-pole. By the time my AIM-54 goes active it gains all the energy it could, and expends all fuel, so it goes fast, pulls hard and doesn't give a marker. If you shoot from longer distance, it's a floating mine which can only get an AFK climber. If you come closer, you should either use Sparrow or just no missile at all and defend hard. I maintain soft lock until missiles go active and I am safe not only because it improves tracking, but also because it improves target selection: if you don't, there will be a lot of instances where all the missiles you shoot will go after one target, and if I will be in the recieving end of that, congratulations: you've just lost 6 missiles to no benefit. Sure, I would break a lock if I see a fast missile going my way. I'd sacrifice the precision of a couple of Phoenixes in order to lessen the risks associated with R-27ER. But if the sky is clear, and nobody is locking me, I'd strongly recommend to maintain the TWS datalink with the missiles, unless you have a good reason to break the lock or the radar glitches and there's no way to reestablish the datalink fast enough without sacrificing SA, or maybe there's a very good target of opportunity in front of you which can be easily clapped with AIM-7F. Honestly, the main reason I am arguing with you is I see a lot of people following your "guide", knowingly or unknowingly. Either way, their performance is VERY bad because they end up without both early kills and missiles for the rest of the match. They then chicken out and RTB, for a rearm. By the time they take off again, the battle is either over, probably in the enemy favour due to their absence, or it's still going, but they are cut off from their team with the entirety of the enemy team due to the directions people fly most of the time. And that's if nobody actually saw them, didn't follow them and didn't kill on the runway. Phoenix reliance is a bad strategy overall, and cheapshots is an extremely bad execution of it on the tactical level. Either way, people who follow your guide, knowingly or unknowingly, tend to end up being wrecked. That's especially sad when people got hyped about jets, but then got clapped, and abandoned that bracket or the game entirely.

@@EriIaz You are right, but you look at this guide from a position of experience and mastery, when it for those who purchased legendary F14-A(B) and all they got was a broken nose and taste of earth from MIGs. You do not need this guide, you see it with different eyes, but it shows what the average player needs with the question - how to launch this missiles and kill someone? In the current situation, after the first engagement, most of the team goes to the hangar and they do not see kills anyways. AIM-54 allow to see kills (even cheesed), and then when player get tired of missile spam, start mixing presets and come to best for yourself. It does not matter to discuss +- 10km 1000m, altitude is important in the context of being no lower than the enemy and the mountains, distance in the context when enemies have not yet begun to actively maneuvers. The combination of all conditions is the best moment to attack, but first of all, missiles must fly into enemies when they are the least concerned. As a CBT player, i have "unlimited" SL, i can afford to buy all open ground/avia vehicles, get negative income without any problems. But relatively new players cannot do this, and if the player wants to launch missiles for 0-2 easy kills, using 2-4 AIM-9L and return to the airfield for reloading or even go to the hangar, this is his right. The average player doesn't have to be "bait" to attract attention from "kings of the sky". It's a team game, but all the players are in different conditions, not SL millionaires. And most just want to enjoy a couple of kills rather than eating earth or become a "master".

It also depends on the country which produces the aircraft, for example in eastern europe and asia, aircrafts’ systems are programmed to work and display km/h. In WT is down to personal preference and help to get a better sense of speed for new players using the metric system or the imperial one just like in a car.
