I do appreciate the fact that you go into a real battle and not just do a demonstration in a test flight

This video and the original guide are the perfect references to give to people that just got the F-14 and ask for help when all I can do is explain stuff through the in-game messages. Absolutely invaluable for giving them a visual guide of what they're missing by keeping the default radar antenna settings, circular radar, cyclic target switching and even the target window.

Of all the radar vids this is the only one that asked to turn off the constant elevation setting! I couldn't get mine to work before, so ty!!

When manually moving the reticle on the radar horizontally, instead of the reticle moving horizontally the whole grid moves with it and it stays in the center of the grid.

i really wish you would give us a full control layout. as after turning off cyclic cycling, my tws no longer detects aircraft. i even tried fiddling with the gimble lock. The f14 was already high skill to fly, now its even worse.

Question is does the Pheonix have the range it is supposed to have. I still have yet to see people lob these at 30,000-40,000 at mach and yeet someone at 40km away. Every time I see Tomcat drivers yeet a Pheonix it is almost always on the deck, which isn't what the Pheonix was designed to do. I know the Super 530D is actually accurate in game at 24nmi Rmax.

Boresight mode is ACM mode, you have to set a keybind to switch to that mode. There are radar modes which are SRC, SRC PD, PDV, and TWS SRC is basic radar. Pretty short range, sees clutter, easily chaffed. SRC PD is pulse doppler, that’s looking things going faster than its surroundings (when you fly 500mph and another jet flies at you 500mph, the radar sees that other jet coming in at 1000mph and all the clutter around it moving the same speed you are (500mph) it it says anything going same speed as me must be clutter and ignores it. The modes you listed are great for different types of lock and target acquisition but there is in specific a ACM/BVR button you need to set to use that boresight. If you have trouble finding it in keybinds let me know. It’s in there I promise!

You dont need to point the nose. Just do a 360 roll. Your TWS will pick up the entire field and then stick to the target zone.

im not sure whats going on with my aim54s but ever since this last update it keeps telling me i need a radar lock, i have aim54s selected i got tws on its tracking them but it wont actually lock and when i try to fire the aim54 it wont let me, never had this issue until the yak 141 was added

Hey Klaus just got the F-14B and I’m trying to learn the radar and I have a few questions. Can you maybe do a video explaining which modes need to be used when? Like I know TWS for 54s but like what radar mode do you use when your on somebody’s six? And other stuff like when to change your radar mode if you have shot a missile off?

I loved both videos and they've helped me a lot. Though, for some reason, I only get the TWS HDN option and not the TWS option for my F-14. Is this something they changed in the update, or am I missing a control? None of the radar controls seem to change it from TWS HDN to TWS.

how do you have the constant searching for lock happening at 9:07 - 9:15 ? when i press the radar lock button that only happens for probably a second and then goes away. I would love to know how your able to do that. I know its probably very basic and very known but im just dumb. Great video as well :)

Ah! That’s an important radar function. It’s on ALMOST every radar equipped aircraft. It’s called “ACM Mode” or “Advanced Combat Manuevering” it’s a mode meant for close range fights because it locks the radar in one place and keeps attempting a lock on a loop and the first thing that passes the nose of the aircraft where the radar dish is locked to will be locked. The range of the lock is dependent on the radar. For example the EJ Kai has an ACM mode of 19km! However the F-14A has an ACM mode of only 9km (I wish it was farther but it’s not) But in general ACM is a close range mode when fiddling with the radar search is too hard because the target is too close. You should only need to find a Keybind that switches BVR/ACM mode

Hey Klaus, Since the radar tilt change the f14's radar has grown to annoy me more than it use to as aim54's no longer launch on a soft locked TWS target for some damn reason. Anyway, what are your full controls to get the searching/tilt to be that smooth? mine is super damn jittery and basically unusable as i have to constantly fiddle with it to actually get the target

I’ve had no issue firing and track a TWS softlock. I’d have to see the issue you’re dealing with case by case to know what issue is plaguing you. As for my radar tilt make sure you have relative step down low (it’s in axis settings for the tilt) and try it with a toggle also in those same settings called “relative control” try that both on and off and see if either way works for you.

i cant launch on soft locks now either since i set up the keys. i have weapon lock air to air binded and fire but even when i have the soft lock on a plane after finding him on the radar, it just says "radar lock required" but i want to fire a phoenix without have to hard lock.

Go have on question pertaining to f-14A. It's been a year later and I think I know the answer but just want reassurance. I can't get just TWS I get TWS HDN and it scans way slower than what your TWS scans. Did gaijin nerf the F-14A radar or is there something I don't have turned on or off. As of now I get SRC , SRC PD HDN, SRC PDV HDN, TWS HDN

TWS HDN is just TWS as it’s always been but it works better in head on as they added a different type of TWS that’s worse on head on but better against notching targets but it’s only on SOME aircraft

TWS helps show you individual targets better and the vector of their flight path. It also lets you passively track a target without a spike (hard lock that makes the RWR alarm go off)

I've gone over the controls and can't seem to find a way to just have TWS. It's always TWS HDN. For some reason, I can't find TWS without the head-on when I cycle through.

@@byrnjarwermund8678 It looks like it's the same thing, but in the past it wasn't labeled as HDN, so Gaijin made it clearer by patching the text. What gets me now is that I can never seem to get a lock with TWS.

An update made after this video changed TWS to TWS HDN on the tomcat and the only one with variable TWS is Russian jets. All NATO planes have TWS HDN now

Using tws can you launch 2 missiles at 2 selerate targets?

Yes the initial launch programs the missile. But I have seen them take TWS updates and go after the second target but they aren’t supposed to do that. I think that’s a glitch. The target you lock and fire upon tells the missile to do all the math it needs to intercept that target. Basically the Aim-54 when launched at a target says “ok the target is coming at me at 1000mph, to meet it I need to go HERE” and if the target maneuvers but you are TWS the whole time and keeping a softlock your aircraft (which has long range radar) gives the missile corrective information on where it’s target is going and then when the missile comes to about 16km range it’s own radar can see the target and it no longer takes input from the tomcat radar. Unless it cannot see the target and the tomcat can, it will still try to guide it to its target. The Aim-54 talks with the tomcat through the entire flight basically

That stat card would suggest it’s about 16km however it varies. A sidenote it’s hard to tell how close the Aim-54 is to its target there is no pitbull alert to let you know it’s okay to switch targets. I wish there was.

@@DeatheRangers to a certain extent, but the aim 54 uses a radar to guide, just like aim 7 sparrow. The difference is that the aim 54 has a full radar set instead of just a receiver, so it can guide itself. But the radar set inside is small so it can only get a lock from its own radar at closer range. When it does that it's called "pitbull" before that it's guided through inertial navigation and data Link from the mothership aircraft. To get just close enough so that it's own radar can do the rest. But if you fire it close to the target it may go "active" or "pitbull" right off the rail.

That’s called TWS, I show the setup in the first video but the keybinds are in this one. This was a follow up to the original video on my channel. Also updates to this and as well as talking about the Tomcat B should be on the way hopefully since the tomcat is always my favorite thus far

Its just too much playing with the radar :D maps are too small for this - Im focused on radar and suddenly whole my team is dead or I have someone on my 6.

You’re right it IS a lot of playing with it, BUT you can minimize the amount of fiddling with it by grabbing a single long range track on a promising looking target and anyone following that guy will be targeted still by TWS so you’ll see anyone around him. Just like that I did here. Up close you use ACM mode and that’s the blinky square thing you seen me use on TimsVariety, it will auto lock anything you point the nose of the aircraft at. It locks the radar forward and just point at something within 9km of you and it will lock the first thing it sees. This allows you to get good sparrow locks without fiddling up close but still get those juicy AIM-54 launches at longer ranges

@@Klaus_KlavierGaming I figured out some of your tricks and tips already - I still have problems with locking/losing locks - that manual "arrow keys" chosing targets on radar confused me the most - I feel like it was maybe easier for me when I just cycled through the targets more automaticaly. When I use arrow keys to pick target it becomes much more difficult for me to sustain the lock and dont get lost. Also I feel like automatic TWS and cycling through it automatically gave me more targets than manual (I dont know how better to explain what I mean). Guess as with everything Ill need more time - I just got used to play with previous jets and this is like a diffrent game now.

@@jimmyjazz166 without seeing it on your screen I can’t tell what’s going wrong or what issue your experiencing, HOWEVER I have a couple of ideas about what’s happening. Losing a lock usually happens on TWS when someone notches your radar enough to where they vanish, sometimes it does bump to other targets but it’s not often in my experience. If you want I might open a discord and I’ll drop a link in the description and in a reply here and if I find a good time that overlaps with people I can do AIM-54 training and help people 1v1 or in small groups to how to use their radar effectively. It’s no skin off my back and I only want to see people succeed because the tomcat is by FAR my favorite aircraft so far because it’s less about skill and more about knowledge and tactics. If you know the aircraft in and out especially it’s radar (which honestly it’s it’s more powerful asset) you can make your weapons do some really incredible things from incredible ranges a lot of it relies on the trick I did here. I don’t mind going into a nice big map and streaming on discord and having you stream your game back and being able to see what you see
