Guards fan here. I've always like the Twins and love spending time in the Twin Cities. Always hope you do well, when you aren't playing us of course. This video keeps omiting the Guards from the small payroll team for some reason when we are always at the bottom. Difference is we develop players and pitching very well and make smart trades. Our signing of Bell this off season was the first big FA contract (not big compared to others this off season by a mile) since the Edwin deal in 2016. If the Twins are struggling to get people, that says more about what is going on with ownership and the front office than the team itself. Something doesn't add up.

Ricky Nolasco, Tommy Milone, Phil Hughes, Hector Santiago, Jake Odorizzi, Lance Lynn, Martin Perez, Michael Pineda, Rich Hill, J.A Happ, Dylan Bundy, Chris Archer. What do all these Pitchers have in common? THEY ALL SUCKED FOR THE TWINS! This is what the Twins front office has declared good moves for this team to compete. The only free agent starter we have signed in the last decade to actually perform good, was Ervin Santana, and that was by accident.

I'm an Orioles' fan who just gave you a like and subscribed. I did so because you do so well at laying out the problem of how teams that refuse to spend to get better continue to flounder with no hope on the horizon. After the O's had their first decent season in several years and gave further reason for optimism with a farm system that's just loaded with top prospects, I, like many fans, was really encouraged to hear the club's GM Mike Elias talk about how they were ready to lift off. Unfortunately, the reality so far is more like a front office beset with paralysis--if free agents grew on fruit trees the O's have let other teams harvest almost all of the best fruit ahead of them, leaving what no one else wanted. Sadly, many of those posting on Oriole-centric channels are running interference for the front office's failure to make any substantive improvement, and even go so far as to in so many words say the fans are getting another stale bologna sandwich and be happy with it. Once again, thanks for providing a common-sense antidote to such tainted nonsense. (Btw, my apologies for jumping all over the place with my varied metaphors.🤥)

Thanks! Much appreciated - and welcome to the channel! I truly feel for O's fans. So much reason for hope, yet it's more of the same so far. I also thought Elias would be the ideal person to oversee the rebuild... but the owner is handcuffing the team. Unfair to loyal fans. Hope you enjoy the youth movement - it looks like an outstanding new generation of O's. A few months ago, I was positive this would be the offseason the O's broke open their wallet and did what the Padres & Giants have done - sign top stars to play with Adley, Gunnar, & Mullins. It would have been fun to see them compete again.

Nice content! You really hit the nail on the head with this video. I like a lot of the young players but I totally agree they should sign Correa and Rodon. They have a decent pitching staff but they need an ace. I love your perspective that signing great players attracts other great players. They have deep pockets and need to start spending to improve this team

As a fellow Twins fan, I really want the Twins get C4 and Rodon. The young talent is there but they lack the high-end superstars (I’d count Byron as a one, but he can’t stay healthy). It’s just annoying how cheap the Pohland’s have been. I also found your channel through TFTwins and you’re content really great. I’m happy to see more Twins content on KZread. Even thought Tom and Nash from Locked on Twins are great, we need more Twins content on KZread.

hopefully SF ruins this by signing Correa+Rodon lol best case scenario, nobody wants to give Rodon more than 5-6yrs or dpnt hit his desired AAV,, and he takes a 2022 Carlos Correa deal-2-3yrs/$75m-$100m w/player options after the 2nd year. Maybe 2023-$39m(30yo), 2024-$37m(31yo), player opt-out/in, 2025($29m)/2026($29m)/2027($29m)-32y0-34yo), club _and_ players options for 2028(35yo)+2029(36yo)[club-$30m each, player-$20m each, meaning if he sucks he still gets $20m and if he's good he gets $30m if SF wants him or hits the open market if he believes he can get more money. This results in what could be a 2yr/76m deal, a 5yr/$163m deal, a 6yr/$183m-$193m deal, or a 7yr/$203m-$223m deal. This basically gives Rodon and SF assurances, but bottom line is that if Rodon holds up his end and performs, he can get every penny of that 7yr/$210m he allegedly desires, but doesnt leave him out to dry if he doesnt perform, nor does is financially cripple the Giants. SF has over $80m to spend before entering the tax(that they can afford) but they have another *$65m* coming off after the 2023 season with Crawford, La Stella, Cobb, and Pederson hitting FA.

Now that Correa is gone I expect that the Twin's will sign some low cost, stop-gap shortstop. Probably some guy with a good glove and a .225 BA. We'll refuse to give Rodon what he wants, but someone else will. Falvey and Lavine will say that they tried but got out-bid by free spending big market teams. We'll head back to the Dollar Store for our free agents.

What Cohen is doing is absolutely great for baseball -- Like you said, most, if not all MLB owners are billionaires who can easily afford to spend big money on their teams, they just choose not to. I hate when owners cry poor and complain about how much the other guys are spending because they can’t possibly compete… it’s obviously bullshit, but if they genuinely feel like they can’t or won’t be able to keep up with all the spending, then maybe they should sell the team to someone who can and will. I know a lot of them see their franchises as nothing more than business assets that generate profit, but what they don’t seem to understand is that by investing more money into the team, they will make more money back in the long run. They should really have no issue with other teams spending into the luxury tax since the more tax they pay, the more money The other teams will receive, end it should be mandatory for that money to be spent on improving the team, Which is something that could be achieved by implementing a salary floor--not a salary cap, just a floor. All of those cheapskate “small market” owners like to justify their lack of spending by pointing to teams like Tampa Bay and Cleveland as proof that they don’t need a high payroll to be successful, and it’s just like yeah, but those teams are special cases because they’ve been doing it like that forever and they actually know what they’re doing, and just trying to mimic them without fully understanding everything about what they do and how they do it will not produce the same results. And besides, aren’t they tired of being completely irrelevant and perennial losers that no one cares about and no one wants to play for? That’s what the Padres used to be, but look at them now… don’t you want to have something like that going on? Don’t you want to be the next Slam Diego? I know I would.
