    Yeah he's by far the worst. One of those was a number 1 pick that turned out to be James Worthy. The Stepian rule had to be made so franchises wouldn't ruin themselves like those Cavs did.

    Micheal Jordan is bad, don’t get me wrong. He deserves an honorable mention for a top 5. David Kahn, Isiah Thomas, Billy King, and Ted Steipen are all locks. But as a Clippers fan, Elgin Baylor deserves to be in that list. Guy only had 2 winning seasons in 22 years. Some of that blame goes to noted racist dickhead Donald Sterling, but you couldn’t put together a sustainable solid team that could have success for more than 1 season. Jordan and Baylor are arguable for the 5 spot.

    Ted Stepien should be Number 1. Its not even close. The league had to make new rules because of how bad he was.

  • @GroundHOG-2010

    @GroundHOG-2010

    5 жыл бұрын

    It was one of those rare times that the league actually stopped a team from being able to trade to stop them becoming insolvant, and even offered replacement picks to the team when Mr Stepien sold the team. Once they allowed the team to trade again while Mr Stepien was there, trades had to still be approved by the league. There is also the racism stuff (trying to make a 'balanced team racially') during a time when the league really wanted to get the public to accept a league with mostly black athletes, and the loosing $15 million in three years of running, or going through five coaches in that time. And the Toronto Towers thing...

    Miles Claxtion Production To catch you up on GM’s, Ted Stepien was the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 1980’s(If my memory serves me right) and he wanted to build a playoff team almost immediately. He kept trading away 1st round picks for veteran players each year because of his win-now philosophy and the picks that he traded away became either All-Stars or even Hall of Famers like James Worthy. It got so bad that the league literally had to step in and implement a rule named after Stepien that prohibits trading away 1st round picks in consecutive years. The Cavs got compensated with extra 1st round picks in exchange for cash, although I’m not sure how much each of the picks cost back then. In the end, the compensation prevented the Cavs from getting into a hopeless situation in Cleveland and that’s why you should never trade away 1st round picks for washed up players; ie the Brooklyn Nets trade in 2013.

    Here’s my opinion on this list: 1) Ted Steipen (Not exactly a GM but was the one commanding his GM’s to trade 5 consecutive first round picks, and so bad there’s a rule named after him. Also a hated man in Cleveland Sports History with Art Modell.) 2) Isiah Thomas (Made a bunch of dumbass moves, that created logjams, and set the Knicks back 5 years. Also a totally good human being who gets charged for sexual harassment.) 3) David Kahn (Set the Timberwolves back 4 years, and even them they still haven’t recovered from his awful decisions, and his niche of trading picks for cash.) 4) Billy King (Dude traded all his picks for a bunch of 35 year old men that were all gone in a year. The result: One playoff series win. Also this man wasted AI’s prime.) 5) Elgin Baylor (Sure he won an executive of the year in 06’, but that was just another outlier year for us Clippers, and only had two winning seasons as executive in 22 years. I will also blame Donald Sterling for this but come on man.) Honorable Mention: Micheal Jordan (Like Steipen, he technically calls the shots as a Owner, and the GM’s are organizational puppets. Very arguable for the 5 spot with Baylor)

    Whoever was the Cavs GM in the early 1980's deserves to be on this list. He traded away multiple future first round picks that later became James Worthy and Derrick Harper, and was the reason why the NBA made the rule that you can't trade your 1st round pick in consecutive drafts. He also traded Bill Laimbeer and James Edwards for virtually nothing.
