Evinrude ETEC 150HO - Running rough at low power, Ep 1

The first thing I try with ETEC missing at low power...plug clean/gap/index. Also file flat any metal buildup on electrode and regap. We do this every year at the beginning of the season and it's been working out well. Also followed this routine on an ETEC 250HO...checkout the video. The 250HO smoothed out at low power...happy owner.

    On the vapor separator tank there is a tiny hidden inline mesh filter inserted inside the pressure return line fitting (returning fuel from the injector return line flows through it, Or should I say "should be able to flow through it" ) This fine mesh filter is inserted into the return line inlet (use care when removing the fuel lines as the fittings are plastic and you can break them) ,If this tiny filter plugs you will get excees fuel pressure buildup as the blocked filter will prevent the fuel pressure regulater in tne VST from releasing the excess pressure back into the VST tank through the pressure regulator valve.. If that happens that will also make it run rough because it forces the "mixture rich" due to the excessive fuel pressure build up in the injectors, that excess pressure (due to restricted return line flow) throws the mixture calibration off and makes the mixture rich in stratified combustion mode , this can also carbon up your plugs , and its hard on your fuel pump as well Use Oetiker clamps for making fuel hose connections, they require the use of an Oetiker crimper tool to crimp them in place.. its just something to be aware of as a maintenance item "example" kzread.info/dash/bejne/g5drqNSlk6q8p8o.html

    I have a 2014 or so 115 etec motor runs great at the start of a outing - 20 min run to fishing grounds, then trolling motor, change location with main tho when returning to the boat ramp with some idiling the motor will stall and will need to be re started a few times to get it to the boat trailer. Have had the motor serviced (new plugs) problem continues going on 3 years now. Thanks for the vid - might try this

    Could be multiple issues. If it were mine I would have the oil injection setup to the lean mode. Keep in mind you will need to use xd100 oil…I prefer Amsoil HP Marine and have used it for the past 9 years. When it acts up, pull plugs at home to verify condition. If they’re soot free then move on to other possibilities such as fuel system…injectors might be bad.

    Need help I have a 200 horse Evinrude 2005 was driving it and she just stopped check the oil reserve filter is good spot plugs again and gas voltage is good cannot figure out what is wrong she will turn but she won’t start do you have any clue and if you do I appreciate it

    hi..the gas pump of my enverude etsc 30 hp engine is constantly receiving electric current. The engine locks itself without starting. ecu is solid. how can i fix it..

    I’m having issues with my 2006 150hp etec evinrude. Runs absolutely fine for the first start and ride however after restarting to move “coming on plane slowly it starts to miss at roughly 3-3.5k abit more throttle and it stops. Basically between idling and planning it will have a fit. Less throttle or more no issues. Also driving it home after use from ramp to home it has issues starting. Takes 2-3 goes. In water it’s fine? Strange

    @@Stromzilla the plugs are brand new. One thing I want to note, my fuel bulb is vertical with the outlet facing down. This was done when boat was Re powered. Unsure if this will make anything different.

    I have a 2014 etec 25 hp. I accidentally added xd 100 oil instead of xd 30. Now boat runs for about 20 minutes and stalls out. Any advice. Thank you

    XD100 is not the cause for your motor stalling out. This oil is one of the cleanest burning oils out there right next to Amsoil’s HP Marine 2-stroke. And I’m really confused about why you would run a lower quality oil in your Etec to begin with? Setting that stuff aside, sounds like a fuel delivery issue or air is in the oil delivery system. Cycle the motor thru the winterizing protocol twice which should purge any air that’s in the system.

    @@Stromzilla I had just purchased the boat and didn't realize they were running XD50 instead of XD 100. Everything was fine until I mixed in the XD 100.. I am reading that the computer has to be set to XD 100 in order to run that type of 2cycle. It was set up for XD50. Thanks for your reply appreciate it.

    That is not true. Please read your manual again. What they’re trying to say is the following: if you run xd100 you can have your motor setup to run the oil injection in the lean mode…that’s how good and special xd100 is. XD100 can be used with normal or lean oil injection setups. I’ve been running our etec with the lean oil injection setup for years using Amsoil HP Marine 2-stroke oil. Would not hesitate at all to use XD100. And would not use XD50 or XD30. Plugs, rings, and internally will stay far cleaner with XD100 and HP Marine.

    @@Stromzilla If currently engine is set for xd100 and using xd100. Do I need to change setting to xd50 when using Amsoil synthetic 2T?

    @@Swifjames If your etec is currently setup with oil injector set for lean setting, which requires xd100, and you want to switch to Amsoil HP, you can leave the oil injector in the lean mode if you like. Amsoil HP 2-stroke oil was validated on Etec with oil injectors set to ultra lean mode and right alongside the same etec running ultra lean using xd100. Tear down later showed both oils to be exceptional. I run my 150ho with ultra lean oil injectors using Amsoil hp and have done so for the past 8 years without missing a beat.

    Evinrude invested in Etec years ago and then bailed during Covid by shutting down their outboard assembly lines. I was extremely disappointed. It’ll be interesting to see where the BRP Marine division goes next. Suspect it might be Electric Propulsion but not certain.
