    Very good video! Can you test an EMM module which is disassembled from a motor?

    I suppose it would be possible with the right harness and power supply. Never done this myself

    Hi Lee, I've not had any issues with this 60hp model, but I have worked on a 40 ETEC which had an EMM failure which was a similar age. I was hoping to find the cause of the fault, but the customer sold the engine as spares. I believe it might have been a split in the cooling line which cools the EMM, but who knows. The EMM would go super nova when the key was turned to the standby position.... Chris

    If I buy the scanner does it come with the software? If not, I looked at the link you provided above and it just shows the scanner. Sorry if this is a stupid question. My 2006 50hp etec died last week and I’m looking to buy one to see what’s wrong with it.

    Just says - EMM recovery (allows to bring the system back to a communicating level). I’m not sure without plugging my machine back in and checking.

    Hi tranks for answering! I saw some tools on eBay and say emm recovery and map upload, contacted but they dont give details, so i think its just marketing for people to buy, thats why i asked, before investing i would like the true answer from someone has It...not from the seller 😅

    @MarineEngineServicing is the software that's needed, included? Or do I need to buy the disk as well??

    You’ll need the disk or usb stick with the data loaded to it to load the software onto your laptop / computer. It’s then plug and play once that’s down. Normally when buying the diagnostic reader it comes as kit, try eBay or power sports-diag, they sell BRP kits

    What would it say if the ecu was bad?

  • @MarineEngineServicing

    @MarineEngineServicing

    4 ай бұрын

    You’d have multiple fault codes indicating this. The ecu does have local indicators on the ecu itself ( 4 leds ) I believe

    @MarineEngineServicing ( no lights on this ecu/emm...but, so I ended up getting the device you recommended in the video. It worked great! Thanks, so my outboard is a 1997 johnson 150 ( J150ileuc ) has a ecu/emm,and previous owner said the motor stalled out an wouldn't start again, he said he didn't mess with it - an just sold it to me this next/this season... basically, I think it's the ecu because of lack of spark, and it has a decent amount of "previous" codes that seem to have all accoured at the same time! Two active ones relating to temp sensors, an previous codes like Over voltage threshold, under voltage thresholds, voltage output the starboard side temp sensor was reading 286.5° F --- (141° C) when the motor hasn't even been ran! Do you think the ecu/emm is the problem?
