Evinrude ETEC 150HO - Running rough at low power, Ep 2
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
We’re always looking for an easier or better way in performing a task. In Rough Running Ep 1 we discussed cleaning plugs by scraping with whatever including straight edge, knife blade, etc. In this follow up episode we show the cleaning process using a dremmel with wire wheel. And is it ever slick!! Will continue messing with this in the spring along with another new idea for setting up spark plugs. We hope you’ll subscribe to our channel and hang with us as we continue to develop our channel. Always enjoy comments and “Likes” which further supports our stats. Take care and thank you for watching!!

Let us know how it turns out.
Im all about getting the most out of your parts, but how much is your time worth? If you can afford a boat and outboard motor you can afford a new set of plugs each year. Cleaning the ground strap and electrode still doesn't get underneath the insulator and the insulator can easily crack too which will cause a misfire-cleaning plugs is a half-ass fix to get you home at best
This spring i purchased a chris craft scorpion fishing boat with a 200hp Evinrude etec outboard. This motor is a 2005-2006. Right out of winter storage, into the water it started right up and ran great at high speed. I started tolling with it at 1.5 - 2.5 mph and after about an hour it shut off. It started right up and i could troll another 1/2 hour or so. The shutting off and restarting came more often and harder to start. I changed the fuel filter and in line water seperator. I went trolling again and there was no inprovement in the performance. I intend to clean and recalibrate the spark plugs. How do i know if the oil injection on this two strock is working currently and will improper oil mixture cause this problem? May Day on Chautauqua Lake, NY.

It’s possible you might have air in the oil lines. Try running the motor thru the winterizing process at least twice to clear out any potential air.
Can you just soak them in a decarb solution? (Ring Free)

Assuming you’re referring to the plugs. Great question and might be worth trying.
How come you don't just changed the plugs

You can change the plugs. But we prefer to get the maximum hours with plugs by cleaning, gapping and indexing to forego the expense of buying new...and it’s working. Plugs should last a long time if properly cared for.

@@Stromzilla sounds good. I just bought a boat with a 1999 evinrude Fitch 150 I heard they have a lot of problems. Do you know anything about those motors?

I’ve not heard too many good things about the Ficht outboard and elected to steer clear and instead go with the Etec’s. I’m hoping you gotta screaming deal with yours which will allow you to move up if yours turns out to be a problem.
