Hi, I for one was very surprised to hear the Dutch salvage team say: we can't so easily take off cargo, because the ship might break in two. These things look like castles, like Pyramids perhaps. But apparently in terms of physics it's more a sailing boat made of wet blankets :D.

Don't know what CNN is like abroad, but here in North America their coverage - both domestic and international - is absolutely execrable. (keep in mind that the trumpster is an atheist with no sense of decency or shame) And the problem that trumpists have with CNN is that they do NOT know the difference between fact and opinion. Trumpists get their NOOZ from FAUX NOOZ and NOOZMAX and from the trumpster's new favorite, OAN (One America NOOZ) FAUX NOOZ set a VERY low bar and the other two squeaked under it. FAUX would have likely reported it as some Democrat plot to hasten communism. NOOZMAX and OAN are 99% opinion, with VERY little fact. Neither of them would have ANY IDEA how to report on the Suez blockage. If they mentioned it all, it would have been only to report that the trumpster denied responsibility for it. OAN and NOOZMAX would have waited for further instructions from Vladimir Putin (using his Q alias) FAUX NOOZ

The problem with the mainstream media is that they go to school to learn how to look good while being talking heads. Most have liberal arts degrees, little to no math, no statistics, no logic, no engineering, no science, no knowledge of anything outside of media. The no science education is ironic in their mantra of, "follow the science." What their lack of independent knowledge does is make them vulnerable to fake experts or competing experts with no way to determine veracity.

Juan Thanks for the update. I had a ship that I salvaged 20 years ago as an engineer on Merchant ships. That ship was roughly 2/3 the length and 1/4 the deadweight tonnage. It was stuck on the sandy bottom but got stuck on a boulder that punctured the bottom of the ship near the stern. The salvage took about a week and half and then another 7 months to put the ship back together. We used SMIT to help us out and did the Naval Arch Calculations. Lots of inspections of the ship and internal structures, Tanks, Void spaces etc. The tidal forces ended up damaging the bottom plating of the ship.

I wondered why there is no mention of placing any winding gear somewhere on the shore (connected to the ship by cable), I would assume it could be capable of much greater forces than any tugboat could dream of (obviously cause it would be on hard and stable ground instead of water) Could it damage the ship, or maybe such cables can't be that long, or is there other reasons for neglecting that? I hope you can adress this briefly on your next report, I'm looking forward to it, and thanks for your throughout videos!

How do you get the harbor. With my favor tools ... CAT dozers. How do you marshal the equipment in days .. same way they did during the first gulf war when the oil fields were set ablaze. "Availability of large Russian cargo aircraft significantly improves transportation options. The Antonov AN 124 aircraft can transport 140 metric tons (mt) of cargo and is available for commercial charter, Fig. 5. This type of plane was used to ship three Cat D9N bulldozers with winches per flight from Peoria, Illinois, to Kuwait in 1991. Only the U.S. Military Air lift Command with C5A aircraft, which are not commercially available, can come close to this capability. I have an idea that may expedite rescue of ship blocking Suez. Similar to Keel-haul... In reverse.. 1)Cable passed under ship.. port to starboard 2) perforated hose attached to cable forcing water to liquify sand. 3) Bring both ends of cable to bow of ship.. 4) As you maximize water force through hose... Draw the cable ends in...via Winch... Or tractor. 👉👉👉👉 This should dislodge a layer of sand. 👉👉👉👉 A suction hose attached to cable.. could be added behind the Cable/Pressure hose.... To remove sand that is dislodged. I'd be delighted if you find this useful! Harvey McCluskey

@@ED-es2qv They definitely need to update their SOPs to set a maximum allowed wind for transit by vessels with X sail area, or assign them tugs to provide sufficient control. The margins in that canal are just too tight for a ship of that size to operate in less than ideal conditions. Frankly, I'm surprised this hasn't already happened, that class of ship transits the canal all the time and I guess so far have gotten lucky. Thankfully the Egyptians are losing a ton of money from this too so I'm sure their canal authority is about to get spanked for letting this happen and procedures will be drafted to try to prevent it from occurring in the future. I'm also surprised to learn those are single-engine/screw ships, I guess it's probably more efficient but the lack of differential steering must seriously limit control in a confined environment like the Suez Canal.

There have been claims that the tidal range isn't very large, but it's an extremely heavy ship, with the ends supported and varying tidal support in the middle. I'm familiar with the long and narrow Great Lakes freighters, there have been plenty of hull splits with them. Their length to breadth ratio is approximately the same as an English narrowboat. Example, Edmund Fitzgerald split in half in a severe storm with high waves alternately leaving the ends and center unsupported.

Tues looks like the peak High Tide at 7Ft, but also the Peak low tide at 1.0 Ft, that's creating maximum stress on the hull as the ground supported ends are fixed (now bow only) and the water displacement supported hull secion is changed by 6ft of water * the cross section area of the wetted hull. Rough estimate, say 2/3 of the ship is in water, it's 192ft wide, 1300 ft long, so ~ 150,000 sqFt * 6 ft * 64lb/ft^3 seawater / 2000 lb/T = 28,700 Tons displacement change with the tide.

I do not think that the ever given would break, these monster are built to withstand much more than 6 feet or 2 m of tide differenc. I am talking about waves on open seas with heights of 30 ft or 10m or more. These ship have some amount of flex built into them so they can withstand harsh conditions, it’s like airplanes they also can flex to some degree. There are some video here on KZread that show how much these ships flex under harsh conditions at sea.

It's very likely that we've got at least a couple of them somewhere "nearby", or could have them "visit the neighborhood" in the next few days. It wouldn't be the first time that the U. S. Navy has been tasked with helping to rectify a situation where "a 'blivet' has hit the rotating oscillator".
