Era of Reclamation Ep.8: Black men and fashion: elegance, defiance and beauty

The discussion will look at how men of African descent have used fashion and style as resistance, liberation and change. It will examine how they use it to challenge the past, meet the moment, and see the future.
What has the pandemic done to the fashion industry, individual designers and fashion-thinkers? In this digital revolution, what have been the challenges to London Fashion Week and other fashion events and how will things change as we emerge from the restrictions of lockdown? Can museums become spaces where we can view fashion as a means of understanding our shared human history?
The guest speakers include Dr. Christine Checinska, who returns to share her vision and goals as the first curator of the new department of African and African diaspora fashion at the V&A, and Lanre Olagoke, Nigerian-British artist and champion of young Black British artists.
