I know people complain about the 3 minutes of “ad” at the beginning of the videos. But people, it’s at the beginning! At least ya’ll don’t do those cut aways some podcasts/videos do like, “Speaking of leather, Cameron, audible...”. These guys are doing an awesome job! Never thought I would spend an hour listening about materials. 😂

You talk materials for watches and no talk of Rado? They were one of the firsts to do a tungsten carbide case and to do ceramic. Also the first watch company to have their first metalergy department.

One of my favorite precious metal watches I've seen was a white gold Breitling aerospace. Made you kind of scratch your head and wonder why it would even exist, but the owner loved how under the radar it was and the weight was fantastic compared to the usual titanium ones

Platinum is usually combined with either Iridium or Ruthenium. Modern watches usually are 95:5 Platinum:other, but from what I can tell the older the watch the more likely it was 90:10. The 90:10 version, especially with Iridium, is much harder and scratch resistant.

I'd love to see Matt try and service a watch on stream. Maybe a lower end seiko mod or any vintage USSR watch, just something cheaper we can laugh at when he breaks it (and mayhe even pick up the parts to fix it later).

At 50:50 it looks like the Rehaut (if that is the correct word) of the Omega is bent. First i thought it was a distorsion by the crystal but the second had moved without it, so it looks like a mnufacturing error.

It is the Apollo 11 mission patch on the back of the Omega. You know "The eagle has landed" that is why Neil Armstrong said that. They "were" the eagle.

Lange & Söhne does also pure white gold without any plating. I think the yellowish glow look far better that white gold by Rolex etc.

diamond like carbon is much stronger than a PVD (which like powder coating)...DLC was developed at Argonne National Laboratory. I have had piston pins which were DLC coated to reduce friction.

heavy for something of its size. Go try on a watch on steel, then try on the same model in a precious metal and you will know what he is talking about

#WatchAndListenPodcast Maybe do a episode about the different buckle/clasps types. Simple claps all the way to a diver tri-fold with push button clasp. Their history and development and maybe why one is better/saver than the other. As always the moment it came live and I had the time to watch I stopped work to view the latest episode.

Lamborghini does not use pressed carbon fiber. They make forged carbon fiber and Lamborghini in conjunction with Boeing created the process to actually forge carbon fiber much in the same way steel is forged. Lamborghini has their composite research facility in Seattle Washington, along with Boeing, they have developed many innovations in composite technologies. And it does not look cheap at all. It has an almost marbled look to it. It’s not a cheap process at all. Forged carbon fiber has made its way into the watch world and looks stunning. Audemars Piguet has a Royal Oak Offshore done in Forged Carbon Fiber, along with IWC, and new watch company Creux Automatiq.

But yea china will make british company target brand darts made of 95 percent tungsten machined incredibly intricate and with multiple color dlc coatings for 100$ and tungsten is as tough and hard.So yea I can't see why rolex cant make tungsten cases other than they wouldn't wear out.

Titanium is not harder than steel, get your facts straight. Also that seconds hand on the Breitling does not align perfectly at all, which is annoying as hell+you kind of expect more at this price point and from this brand.

You are right about the titanium. Had a tissot t touch expert titanium solar with the titanium bracelet, and it scratched super easy. It was however really easy to remove them with a scotch brite or 3000 sanding foam pad. Going in straight lines to keep the brushed look in tact. But yeah super light, corrosion immune virtually. But very prone to scuffs and such.
