Episode 43 - 'A Man and His Watch' Author Matt Hranek
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
On this episode, Matt and Cameron are joined in studio by Matt Hranek, author of the acclaimed book, "A Man And His Watch," (which makes a great holiday gift, BTW). Mr. Hranek is a travel photographer, author, and connoseur of the finer things, on top of being a fan of vintage cars and watches. We talk about some of the best watch stories from his book, as well as a few that couldn't make the pages, plus his new magazine, 'WM Brown' and his next book, "A Man And His Car."

BRING BACK THIS PODCAST PLEASE I just discovered this a week ago and have been binge watching it ever since
I have this book, it's a thing of beauty. And it's already led to 2 watch purchases after seeing them in it. Highly recommended. Maybe get a Weiss in the second edition. :)
Let's have Cameron take charge on another episode, and have a 'horological appreciation' episode. One with Arnold and Son, Ferrier, and other beautiful hand-finished movements. Also maybe a Chinese watch company episode? Beijing Watch Co makes gorgeous movements, so does Seagull and Shanghai WC.
Great book, a must for any enthusiast.
I own the book and it is a general collection of stories with nice watch pics. My vintage Breitling Chronomat was in it
Can't wait to buy my 1st Weiss! Hi from Canada
Still waiting on the Tudor episode and the movie watch episode.

Yes! Agree with both of those. As Matt would say - fiiiiiiiiiiire
I own his book, but I found him as compelling as my last bm.

Michael Pitts What is a BM?
Watches and tattoos are two things everyone seems to need a story to justify or enhance having them, we can't just say they look cool lol...

Carl Ruiz can (and frequently does). He also says it gets girls to notice you.
Thanks for the show guys. Weiss are you there?!

NG500 , I think Matt talks to much and over shadows him.
A man and his beans!
35:45 YES! No Ads! Thank you!! Make a high quality magazine - charge me $30 - but you better not fill it full of Ads. Hodinkee really fucked this up if you ask me. I refuse to pay what they’re asking and be bombarded with Ads.
Weiss good , Matt so-so
The fact that Bill Murray wears a Timex just makes him that much cooler.
I would enjoy a magazine like both of these. Loved magazines until they became PR and adds.
Please bring back this channel. Upload anything. Please.
yes.. interesting fellow and all... but this episode kind of forgot abt watches being the reason we’re tuned in ...
If Ellen Degeneres is such a watch nerd then you should try to get her to come on. Cameron could gift her a 38mm on your show (in exchange for her mentioning her new watch on her show ;) )
re X1/9 don't forget the Splatos which runs LeMons ... Alfa V6 in an X1/9
Need bring TGV of Urban Gentry on ...talk about a man and his love of horology.

This was a great episode, really interesting discussion.
If you’re looking for someone to interview try Anthony L, The No BS Watchmaker
since smartwatches are also a part of horology, why not do an episode on digital+smartdevices

@@mmp11472 yeah kind of.. but i found him after i jumped ship from Salomondrin.. and i'd wager that Salomondrin is a bigger asshat then Michael.. (+ it's kinda cool to see insane shit i would never get within 2 miles of, never mind be able to afford) Adam Swords, Michael's camera man is a great guy though..

I already suggested PM in the past. He is an entertaining guy who knows and cares little about watchmaking, but I bet he has some funny stories to tell. For most of his watch purchases the watchmaking part seems to be thrown in for free - though he pays a fortune for the blinged out diamonds that sit on the watch.

A Man and His Watch ... a simple introduction to wrist watches, but this book has a lot of mistakes, here're three examples: Page 82: Edmund Hillary wore a Rolex on the top of Everest. In fact, since 1933 Rolex sponsored the Himalayan expeditions and they used the right words, Rolex worn TO the top of Mt Everest. New Zealander Edmund Hillary carried a 33mm SMITHS wrist watch ON top of Everest. This British-made SMITHS can be seen in the British Science museum in London. Page 103: Omega Alaska Project Speedmasterwas never used in space In fact, in 1977 the Omega Alaska II Project Speedmaster was worn during Russian Soyuz 25 & Soyuz 26 missions to Salyut-6 space station. It was even used during a spacewalk in July 1978 ! Page 104: Schirra's Speedmaster was the first watch in space (1962) In fact, in April 1961 Yuri Gagarin wore the first watch in space, a Russian-made 17 jewels Shturmanskie #MoonwatchUniverse
I keep hearing about Bell & Ross. I've been looking at used ones on Ebay and they seem to be holding their value pretty good... much to my dislike as a buyer.
A little too much car talk on this one. I enjoy cars but not on a watch show. This left me struggling to focus on the show. Cameron didn't have much to say at all. Know why? The Matt's kept chatting about automotive journalism and Instagram.

The show would be better if Matt went bye bye, and Cameron took over.

@@mmp11472 No no no. Absolutely not. They just shifted too far off topic. I like the format. They just got a little carried away with things they had in common that Cameron had zero input on.
Guys, love and support ya, but this episode was a real snoozer...
Gonna say it so Matt can read this. Just got a Man and his Car...superb. great packaging with both. But seeing way too many Rolex watches in a world of time pieces of beauty and function. Rolex us like a Harley. Way overrated when one considers what's really out there!!! Much better choice with car cover. Shit one visit to Elton john's watches would really give you what watches can be. Great book but you need another edition and stop pandering to a corporate GIANT and good ole boys club
Cameron, you should have gone and taken a break. Not much watch talk.
I am fify eight, old man eyesight, I just do not get the crap about the Daytona is not readable. Bullshit, I have a black dial, steel and I read it just fine. I think people just want to find a reason to hate the most beautiful watch the Daytona.
Way too much car talk on a watch show! I would of thought this would have been more about his book.
I like the book and I like Matt and Cameron, but woooooooo boy Hranek is really hard to empathise with. Idk what, but something about him is SO OFF...
I will never ever wear a "symbol of success"
