Thank you for the tribute to Ronnie Tutt, an incredible drummer who is inseparable from the sound of Elvis in the 70s

Received my copy this past Saturday. Regardless of what they could have included, what they could have done differently or errors they made, I am thankful for the opportunity to own an official release of one of the great moments in Elvis's career. Thank you Sony Legacy, RCA and WB.

The Snowman warned you during the Elvis movie and he passed on his club mantra to whom ever came up with this box set. We saw what Amiga did with their box set in 2017 and we only wish they would rerelease it again as I am a buyer of that great package. We here Ronnie give you the respect you deserve for the work you did to make watching Elvis on stage so enjoyable. Elvis loved working with you as you elevated him to do what he did best and that's entertain us who saw him live in concert and that is a gift that will always keep giving in every concert footage and cd you play on.

Hi! Have you compared the sound of the Amiga box set with this box set? I own the Amiga set and haven't decided yet if I should buy the new one as well. If the sound is the same anyway it feels unnecessary.

Ronnie Tutt, one of the hardest working and best rock drummers to take the stage.

On a positive note: I am so thankful for all these KZreadrs who spend hours editing videos. So regarding the concert audio we have all these new video edits synced with it. Especially watching it on a big 75" inch TV the new videos sound with Elvis On Your footage makes for a nice alternative version.

I was born in '85, so Elvis was a bit before my time, but over the last decade, I've really come to love the man and his music. I don't have bootlegs of anything, but I've managed to pick up all the Legacy releases, along with many FTD releases. I can understand how this new box could be underwhelming to fans who know what is available, for me this set has been a treat. I have a lot of the FTD 2 disc concert releases, but to get 4 shows with really great sound is amazing. As is the rehearsal discs. I enjoyed watching the video of your Dad recounting his journeys to see Elvis, he really is a true fan. You have a great channel here, I'm going to really dive into it!

I wish they would remaster and release all the footage from the Concerts & behind-the-scenes during the movie filming. They could probably re-cut a new Elvis on Tour movie with all of the footage that they never used. Maybe one day.

Baz Lurhmann wants to do exactly what you suggest regarding "On Tour". Although at the moment he's pretty tired after spending eight years on the Elvis Movie. Baz wants to basically re-shoot the whole thing using the original footage. Can't wait for that version, probably turn out to be the definitive version if made. Here's hoping.

What Baz would like to do is a new documentary that covers both Vegas TTWII and On Tour as opposed to a revised On Tour. Now whether that gets off the ground following Lurhmann doing a new deal for Warner’s to direct new films remains to be seen. Warner’s will not be paying him a fortune to direct new big films and then watch him utilise time putting a revamped Elvis documentary together, so I wouldn’t take anything for granted and if something does come off, I doubt t it will be in the next couple of years.

@@emjel-yi9eg Baz already has signed the legal papers to be the one to whatever footage he can put together. We have yet to see this come to fruition, so let’s not start making uninformed predictions about what will and won’t be. We’ll just have to wait and see.

@@FrankieLovesElvis - first I have heard of that. when did he sign the paperwork then just to do that work. My understanding is that he paid Warner’s himself to go through the On Tour footage to get it all cleaned up properly and then hit in the idea of doing a special documentary covering both TTWII and EOT and that last week, he signed a deal to be director on certain new Warner movies. Further, predictions of what I said he may or may not do are simply just that and should not be regarded as facts i.e. you cannot have informed predictions. Whatever happens, without any formal announcement, you can bet that all kinds of wish lists of what he will do, should do or whatever will start appearing on Elvis forums, if they have not already started.

I really think we have waited so long for this set that it could never meet our expectations especially the footage that I fear we will never see. Hopefully I get my copy soon so I can hear how the CD’s sound. I have the download and many bootlegs so see how things go when I get it. Thanks Ed and yes respect for Ronnie Tutt!!!

HI Ed, I thought from the streaming version on Spotify it wasn't anything special in the mixing but loved the fact that they were full concerts from the soundboard. I was hoping delay was the reason they were still working on the remix but your reaction tells me different. Mine is arriving sometime today via Amazon. The Blu-ray looks identical. Master edits of bootleg videos that already exist would have been nice. I hope they release the extra footage in my lifetime. I believe I have all the rehearsals on the FTD versions and they sounds amazing. I will like the box set because all shows & rehearsal audio are in one box set. Probably that's about it. I was hoping there would be unreleased footage on the DVD. Guess not.

I've heard the reasons that they don't wanna release the outtakes on video is due to his appearance opposed to TTWII and the high cost for restoration. Hopefully Baz can convince WB to release the Richmond show on DVD since it's practically never before been seen and he looked good in the little footage we do have from that show.

That will be true for EIC, but not for On Tour, otherwise Warners would not have released the movie on video, laserdisc, DVD and then Blu-Ray over the last four decades. Warner’s have not released a revised version of the movie simply because of the cost and the small market. Now Baz has come along and out of his own money has paid for the footage to be cleaned up with a vision of him making a new documentary movie based around both TTWII and On Tour. Of course there is no guarantee it will happen but if it does, it is unlikely to get released for at least another 18/24 months because so much editing, colour correction and sound adjustments all need to be made. But before that, Warner’s will have to get royalty agreements in ola Ed for everyone in the footage and all that takes time too.

That's why I own 2 copies of the movies on VHS due to Johnny B. Good actually being on the opening credits.

Ed,from what i have heard the problem with getting Johnny B. Goode on the opening credits of Elvis On Tour is a copyright issue, Warner Bros. (who handles the dvd releases of the MGM film library ,due to Ted Turner turning those duties over to Warner after closing down his MGM DVD label) has tried reaching out to Chuck Berry's music publishing comany to secure the rights to use the song on the DVD/Blu ray release of ELVIS ON TOUR,Warner claims that Chuck Berry's publishing dept. Doesnt respond to Warner's request to secure the use of the song? Anyway hats off to Warner Bros for making a effort to get what Elvis fans want!

I saw Elvis On Tour for the first time when it was rereleased in Theatres about 11 or 12 years ago. So at that time, I did not even know Johnny B Goode was supposed to open the movie. They played Teddy Bear/Don't Be Cruel on that release too. I had seen ALL his movies before he died except for this one.

Whenever Turner Classic Movies plays it (like they did a couple weeks ago) it's the original with Johnny B. Goode. It makes the opening credits much better.

I find it unfathomable that they ( whoever controls it ) will not release unseen footage of the man at this point. Same things over and over repackaged. His stage presence was a very big part of his appeal and I want more before I leave the planet. Vicki

You’re not getting it. This is a release from Sony who do not control the On Tour footage - Warners own that and at the moment are not prepared to invest in high costs to put out a revamped On Tour movie if they consider the return will not match those costs. The movie added to this set will not have added a great deal of money to the selling price, probably $8 - it was a deal done between Sony and Warners so Warners could shift old stock, so treat the DVD as a bit of a bonus in the set. But you now have 3 unreleased shows with the other one having better sound quality over it’s previous release plus all the rehearsal stuff.

I am personally not interested in investing more money ( especially with the price of everyday living) in the same thing over and over I already own. If you're a hard core collector good enjoy the better sound quality, remixed, remastered , repackaged etc...I was speaking for myself..I want to see what I haven't if it exists. On tour wasn't my favorite Elvis concerts anyway, but again I am speaking for me.Vicki

Unless they can release footage from concerts other than the above mentioned or footage not yet seen I'm not interested. Vicki

@@richardeidemiller6739 - but this is not a Warner’s release - it’s a Sony release and they do not own the copyright to the footage, so I have no idea why you are even on this thread when it is a discussion about the shows and rehearsals that RCA recorded and that are now available on this set and which has been reviewed by Ed. The set does not contain the same things over and over again as 80% of the set is unreleased. Warner’s will not commit money into putting out unreleased footage to a limited market. Your only hope now is if Baz who has had the footage cleaned up at his expense comes through with his vision of a new documentary that covers TTWII and On, but no doubt you will not buy that if you already have 3 copies of TTWII and 2 copies of On Tour because it will I’m sure include already released footage too, if of course it comes out.

I just got the set, not had chance to listen yet. The major thing is I can't believe after all this time they still are holding back all that amazing footage they must have. Especially being the 50th anniversary, the new Elvis movie being a smash hit, new fans, and new interest in Elvis, it was probably the best time there will ever be to release the lot remastered properly. Mabey an ultimate 6/7 disc version for us big fans and collectors, and a small 2 disc set for casual fans/general public. All that could have gotten huge sales with the right promotion. So I doubt now we are ever going to get the whole film released, it's a criminal waste. Then also, all this time delayed and they still missed the legendary and fantastic drummer Ronnie Tutt off the credits, unbelievable! The soundtrack and film should have at the very least been remastered, pristeen and sonicly dynamic. On top of that, they yet again put them in those akward, annoying cardboard, disc scratching sleeves. Ok is just not good enough, especially for the huge price tag. We loyal fans deserve a lot more than this after waiting so long. Who on Earth was in charge of all this? Time the estate/Sony, or whoever else in charge started giving something more back rather than just takeing huge stacks of money from the fans all the time. Going to take some time to listen to it now, but it seems with all the missing factors it's going to be a disappointment from the start unfortunately. At my age I doubt I will ever see the amazing On Tour in it's entirety.☹️

@@elvis78ale Me too, I am sure there are costs, roalty and legal issues BUT this really should have been well sorted out by now, 50 YEARS! Golden opportunity lost. I went to the cinema to see this back in 72 as a new young Elvis fan, and I was totally mesmerized and blown away by everything about it, so exciting. So shamefull new fans can't experience it in all its true glory with all the extra unused footage too. I am loosing hope now too...just not good enough!

Jay, have to agree with everything you posted regarding "On Tour" I have not purchased the current mish-mash of this release. Elvis would be appalled, at its content & if alive would have it pulled from its release circulation. I am hoping for a FTD release. Apparently its being put together, but then, I have been reading this news regarding "On Tour" for years now. May be by 2072 if RCA/Sony can get their act together they may release everything by that long future date. However, that distant date will be too late for me, and others like me, as I am now 68. But still hoping, for a descent release in my lifetime. After all, this film was a 1972 "Golden Globe" winner in its category. It needs a descent release Jay. stay safe & go well.

@@TERRYMism Well I be 62 in April so I doubt if I will ever see all the extra footage either and really as more time passes the interest and market for this will unfortunately diminish and probably not be worth the 'risk' money wise for MGM/sony the estate or whoever. I repeat NOW was the perfect time for that footage and update to be released. If they get a move on over the next couple of years then maybe it would still be a hit still but they all have missed the boat for the optimal time. Very sad for us loyal fans. For me On Tour was the first time seeing Elvis on the big screen back in 72 not long after becoming a fan, and that amazing film and music just exploded my interest and excitement and put me in awe of the great man. Decades later I found out loads of footage remained unreleased, since then I have been let down so many times hearing the extra footage was going to come out soon, about to be remastered... blah, blah, blah! I've just got so disheartened now. Oh well, I still live in vague hope, just!

I have my copy and to be honest I loved everything but the packaging for the CDS. Why didn't they have them in there own cardboard selve like the did for the bluray??? And my second complaint is instead of the movie the bluray should have been unused footage and unseen concerts used for the film. But other than those two reasons i really enjoy the boxset. But saying that this is for hard core fans only not for new fans , for a new fan their money would be will spent on other ELVIS music and boxsets not this one. So I give this ELVIS ON TOUR box set a 3 out of 5. Have a great Sunday ED.

@@elvis78ale - the set was a SONY release and not Warner’s. There was no way Warner’s would give them unreleased footage when they have not done it for their own releases. The Blu-Ray was really a bit of a bonus to attract Joe Public who had either not seen the movie or not got a copy. It was never there as an attraction for the hardcore fan, but the deal did enable Warner’s to clear their shelves of unsold stock.

I’ll take what they give me! These concerts are awesome!

I agree with your assessment, Ed. I wasn't as disappointed because we knew in advance that there wouldn't be any new video footage. When Johnny B. Goode was taken out, it really hurt the opening appeal of the documentary Big-Time. I don't understand copyright issues as to why you can have the same song on the CD set but not play it on the DVD. The packaging stinks and I, too, will put the CD's in jewel cases. All we can do is hope that Baz can produce something new. The 3 book set of Elvis On Tour is a nice compliment to anyone's collection.

Hi Ed, I don't usually comment much on these reviews, but I have to agree with you regarding the sound and mixes of the concerts. I am yet to receive my boxset but have listened to the digital versions now for a while. For me, there are 2 main areas that the mixes could have been better. 1. The brass and strings at times are not as prominent as they should be, or as compared to the mixes on the On Tour documentary. Examples would be on Bridge. For me the flute and string lines are lost in the new mixes compared to the original film audio. 2. I hear where a tape delay effect has been used at times on certain instruments. Whilst a little of this is fine and adds presence when applied in the correct way, it is applied too much, particularly on JBs guitar chanel. He did not use any delay effect and I would have preffered for no delay to be added. It is not present on the previous mix of the San Antonio concert on the Close Up box set for example. I understand that it may be a nice tip of the hat to the Sun Studio delay, but it is not necessary in the context of these concerts. Lastly, I read somewhere that the I Got A Woman vocal drop out was due to an issue with the Sony 8 track source. Evidently, Warner Brothers must have recorded a totally indipensant audio source, and presumably this is the source used on the movie. Since this boxset was a Sony release, they had to used the audio source which had the technical issue. Unfortunately, its not the boxset the fans deserve after 50 years. Let's hope we all get what we want soon.

Ross-Spang seems obsessed with using the slap-back echo/delay effect on Elvis releases. He did the same for many of the outtakes on Way Down in the Jungle Room [also VERY hissy] and the 1969 Vegas box set. Just sounds horrendous and totally out of place. He shouldn't be let near any more Elvis Presley tapes.

Great review...glad i never did buy the Blu-ray before...so i got an extra reason to love the box i got yesterday. Guess what...Sony knows what they are doing...sure they allready did plan a super box with all footage they have in it and the 6 cd's we just got and guess what...we all will have to have it again! lol

And the San Antonio concert on the Up Close CD set ...probably got more of the concerts if I look for them as well ! @Paul Gwyn Paul, it’s been almost 6 years that set was released. In your opinion, regarding sound, the new FTD session sets are being remixed and remastered (AGAIN) so, does the RCA box hold up to the new FTD sonic quality ???

i think i have found a way to get the CDs out without stickin in the finger and pull them out... i don't have this particular set myself, but maybe it's possible to push gently from outside, from each edge of the box, not too hard, just enough to release the CD, maybe it will slide out from the casing... i have done that with other CD packages.... only that you have to catch the CD or let it drop down on a pillow or something.... i'm not sure this "method" is possible with this one, depends on how stiff the casing is...

Let's hope FTD have a nice surprise for us with their On Tour set.

@@TERRYMism Yeh with this Sony release we have the basic Elvis On Tour stuff with a re-release or left over stock of the blue ray DVD. For the serious collector, I am hopeful that FTD will release a blockbuster of an On Tour set featuring a DVD of unreleased footage, rehearsals and obviously concert CD'S. Obviously red tape could scupper any hope but its about time that was got around.

After seeing your review I'm on the fence as you sing. I'm on a fixed income I don't have the money to run out and get the new box set they could have done more with the box set like put a poster inside that would have been nice but I have an original one from the movie on my wall now but it will still would have been nice to have a poster like to do some of the albums they released. So before I run out and buy it I think I'll Wait awhile. Have you seen the double-album they released from that box set I think I would like to have that one instead. Right now I don't have $110. If I see it a little cheaper than that who knows I may get it take care I love you videos

They should have been able to dive into the outtake footage from those concerts used in the film like they did over 20 years ago with That’s the Way it Is. Like you said, they have had 50 years to put something better together with the concert video and have ignored the fans requests for this material once again.

Wish they would release it on 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray with the original Johnny B. Goode opening if WB finally got the rights to the song along with both versions of Elvis: That’s the Way It Is, except the original theatrical version of TTWII will have a stereo soundtrack instead of mono.

Great review. Another thing that has always bothered me is that this is concert footage from 1972 and Madison Square Garden NY was not filmed? It is mind boggling that we have Hampton Virginia but not NY! All we have is 8mm fan footage. I have to believe it was short sightedness on the part of the Colonel. Probably cost more money...what a shame and don't get me started about opening night in Las Vegas 1969. No cameras to be seen. What a loss!

There’s a reason why Elvis was not filmed in Vegas in ‘69 and that’s because he did not want to be. He was worried enough about how the shows would go over without having to worry about movie cameras set up to record things. As for the non filming at MSG, who would have done it. MGM had already done the deal to film Elvis on the April tour and to hang around for another couple of months to film in NY would have delayed the movie getting into the cinemas. Another movie company would not have invested in it because the shows were so similar - the only difference would be the locations. As it was, they had Aloha set up November ‘72 but pushed it back to January so there would not be a clash.

@@emjel-yi9eg All good points, but why the rush if NY is on the schedule, film later. The deal that the Colonel made should have included MSG. 4 sold out shows and they were not filmed? The celebrities that were there, the notoriety of the venue is legendary. As far as the concerts being similar then they should have released Elvis live in Hampton Virginia then instead, but they didn't because this is MSG. His performances there were legendary and deserved to have been filmed. I respect your comments but in the end I think it came down to haste and money.

@@marktognetti6354 - as I wrote, it is my understanding that MGM wanted the movie out before Christmas and hanging around for two more months would have prevented that from happening. There’s a reason why they did not release Hampton Road and that’s because of the sound fault at the beginning. The original plan was to release the Standing Room Only album that would have contained a mixture of live recordings and other stuff but then MSG came along and RCA decided to abort SRO. That suggests to me that MSG was a bit of an afterthought or had not been finalised when discussions were in place with MGM to film the April tour. Yes, I agree that MSG should have been filmed because of what it was, but that would only have happened had the MGM deal not been in place to film Elvis on the road. Also, I am not convinced that MGM would have wanted to film a whole show at MSG as the excitement and dynamics that was included in On Tour would have been lost. And I would go further against the blame being put at Parker’s feet all the time. Elvis was a grown man, and had he wanted the MSG concerts filmed, he should have told Parker and MGM that was to be part of the deal. But as I said, I think MSG came along after the MGM deal had been concluded.

I posted this on another guys post about the guitar and electrician note on the back of the DVD and this is what I put……. The other thing is the electrician and guitar note on the back is wrong !! I just want to check as elvis actually said - my dad seen a lot of players who play guitars and stuff that didn’t work.. so he said .. you should make up your mind he said either about being an electrician or playing the guitar he said i’ve never seen a guitar player that was worth a damn !!! Also the bit that is wrong elvis didn’t say “so he told me” elvis actually said “so he said “ and yeah they left out Ronnie tutt in the credits too !!! What a mistake

Ed. I'm a lifelong 2nd generation fan at 56. We are never going to get the unreleased material apparently. Kinda hard to believe.

I would prefer for them to use the original pictures of Elvis during those 4 concerts. A lot od pics of him in 1972 but not related to the movie.

I preferred Elvis on Tour opening with Johnny B. Goode, why was it changed. Still, a very expensive set considering the DVD was released before. I get a strong sense of disappointment, there could have been more unreleased film, maybe that's something to wait for.

Hi Ed Great review once again. I was expecting more video concert footage as well. As far as not including Ronnue Tutt that's a huge mistake actually mind boggling. I haven't had a chance to check my copy out yet but will let you know once I do. I have these concerts on cd from years ago so will compare sound. Thanks again for your honest review and all you do in these great videos. Bill

I got the box set of elvis on tour i really like it. It's too bad they did nit include Ronny Tutbin the credits. The cd's are hardnto get out. And as you said the only way to get them out is to get your fingers on them. So i'm going to put them in cd sleves

Using paper/poly sleeves to protect cd’s they still fit into original packaging, thanks for the review

Great review Ed. I bought the Hi Res digital version and noticed that the sound quality is not very vibrant. The I Got a Woman vocal mix on Disc 1 is hugely disappointing and I wonder how the engineers could have left it like this. The Ronnie Tutt omission is a terrible clanger as you say.

I agree they could have done much more with the sound quality/dynamics on the live concerts. The rehearsals sounded great.

Did you notice some of the concerts are mixed so the backing vocal groups are BEHIND Elvis instead of hard right like they should be?

I think you say it right. We’re all sad about the release. The only thing that is good, is that the Hampton roads Concert are now complete on soundboard. This concert circulated complete as an Audience Record. I think the rehearsal are not complete too. The other complete concert is the Richmond with missing opening from Lawdy Miss Clawdy. Soooo two complete concerts now and we wait 50 years …. I don’t know … it’s sad .. I think the rights are on Sony and WB … the must give there go to release it. Baz Luhmann try it but Sony and WB are stubborn!

Thanks for the review!! I was expecting more video content as well...I wonder if the people who put this together are real Elvis fans? Do they just assume Elvis fans will buy anything new? Having said that, I will still buy it because I've waited 50 years to hear those concerts....I also agree about the tightly packed CD"s...I enjoy your channel Ed!!

Its a commercial release isn't it? This set is not aimed at the Elvis fan that treasures the FTD specialist label, like myself. The compilers couldn't even put Ronnie Tutt's name on the lineup of musicians. Sony/RCA Money grabbing thieves as always when it comes to the treatment of their finest acquisition.

@@TERRYMism Yes, Elvis releases are generally for the casual fan because they know collector's will buy regardless. The DEEP fan knows more than all the staff at RCA/BMG/Sony/even FTD combined.

The best concert sound quality comes from the 1969, 1970 and 1972 Las Vegas seasons. No other Elvis concert recordings come close. Most being soundboards, but even the multi-track concert recordings, including these, and even MSG or Aloha don't sound as good as the Vegas multi-track recordings.

I feel your frustration and disappointment and fully understand it. Here in the U.K. it’s available on Amazon streaming so before buying it I wanted to listen to it on there first. They have it in their ultra hd sound quality so i was excited to hear the shows in particular thinking they would be freshly engineered and remastered to a high standard. Man was I disappointed, the sound quality is flat and lifeless, just dull with no punch or power, not what you would expect for live recordings especially when you consider they were recorded with making a movie in mind. Like you say the rehearsals are the best part of the whole lot, the quality is better, although they could have brought Ronnies drums forward a bit but maybe I’m being a bit too picky. I honestly don’t understand it, I had the old VHS of Elvis The Lost Performances which had some “On Tour” footage on it and the sound quality of that was awesome so it’s there. As for the DVD obviously I can’t comment but the lack of new footage is very disappointing, I’ve been a fan since 1970 and I’m starting to honestly think I will die before they ever release the concert footage they most definitely have locked away somewhere. Appreciate the review but you’ve confirmed what I had already decided, i won’t be buying it.

totaly agree on that why they not release the entire film of those concerts.....but could be that it has to do with....able to keep releasing stuff over long period of time...at the end the film will come out anyway....but yeh...who knows why the reason to hold things back to release.

On Apple TV , you can buy the Elvis on Tour movie with the original Johnny B Goode intro. So I don’t understand why it can’t be restored to the Blu-ray Disc version in this box set. This is so disappointing. BTW I have purchased the online version of this set on iTunes and have quite enjoyed listening to all the concerts in full and also the rehearsals. I think the sound and remix is pretty good. However I think I’ll pass on the physical set due to Johnny B Goode still not being available on the intro.

I knew the Blu-Ray would be the same. I thought the concerts sounded pretty good all things considered. The rehearsals sound great. I hope we’ll get a restored Blu-Ray down the road

ED you and I think alike. after 50 years, they should have reached for the fences and put together a top notch package. I can hear the tone in your voice.....you don't recommend it.....and that is fine. They took the easy route and gathered the shows and some rehearsals and put it out, at a not so cheap price.

In my opinion I wish the book would've been a little bigger with more photos. I would've loved to see more Greensboro photos. As for the Blu-ray having Don't Be Cruel instead of Johnny B Goode I suspected it would be old stock from 2010. Nice thing is I have a VHS sealed copy of On Tour coming off of eBay I bought for collectors purposes. I know fans have heavily requested an official set for years. My main reason for buying was since I don't buy the bootlegs. A shame Ronnie Tutts name is missing in the book credits. I've been an Elvis fan for 20 years. I first became one back when Lilo and Stitch came out in 2002 when I was ten years old. Great video I love watching them.

Great shirt Ed. 👍 The BluRay is extremely disappointing to me. I expected ALOT of additional footage to be added. They folks who put this set together decided instead to do the bare metal minimum. Expectations certainly were not exceeded on this release.😐

This was a Sony release and they have no control over what Warner’s provide. Warner’s were never going to give Sony a lot of unreleased footage from the movie - heck, they haven’t even done that themselves for their own standalone release.

Hi Ed, I get the picture from your honest review. Enjoyable and watchable as always. I imagine the filmed concert footage is a bit hit and miss, slightly chaotic at times and probably not easy viewing like Aloha in 73 which was more staged managed with camera angles set up, although I'm sure they could've at least presented a couple of hours of performance from available footage. Yes all in all another missed opportunity. Regards, Mike 🇬🇧

Great boxset but lots missing the movie card would have been great or a copy of the movie poster the movies is just the same no extra footage it's a shame it seems there only in it for the money. keep Rockin the elvis way TCB

It could be better for the price, this for sure.

I thought apart from the issues with CD1 drop outs the whole CD levels were mixed and then you get to Sweet Sweet Spirit you get the best sound and continues a bit with Lawdy. The rest of the show sounds like Elvis with the piano and some nice guitar parts. Where is the rest of the band in the mix, where are the backing singers and especially JD. Ronnie is so far back in the mix maybe that's why they missed him off the credits!

Just a thought - were we hoping for too much ?? , We have all being waiting and hoping that they would get it right ! We all know what's out there waiting for us and wanting it so bad . But here's a question to maybe think over - After all these years are they starting to run low on stuff to release, so to it keep Elvis up there do they need to hold on a while longer before releasing the film footage ? And then maybe only one show at a time over so many years ???? Just a thought

I'm assuming Ronnie is still in the credits on the DVD.

There was a copyright issue with "Johnny B." when the theatrical / home video release was done recently. I miss "Johnny B." as well. Bazz hinted at taking the helm for an "On Tour" special edition. Hoping this happens!

Thanks for the review Ed. It sounds like a lot of us feel like you do about this set. Something like this should have been out in the mid 90s at the latest. RCA/BMG should have gotten this stuff out before the bootleggers. Imagine the excitement if this had been released shortly after the 70s masters box set. Maybe I’m outside what most fans think but even the thought of unreleased film from On Tour being released doesn’t excite me that much anymore. I’ve seen most of what’s already floating around out there and it’s good but I don’t know that there’s anything that going to blow me away. Now 10, 15, 25 years ago , yeah I would have been super excited but that time has passed for me. I enjoy listening to what I have. Pick up the FTDs that interest me and maybe an occasional vinyl album that has a rare label or is in exceptionally nice shape. I think the On Tour material is an example where RCA/BMG/Sony didn’t understand what the fans wanted, didn’t care what fans wanted or maybe just had no idea on how to best package this material or maybe the reality is that the there just isn’t that many people interested in this material. It could be that those of us really interested in these type of releases are only in the thousands, not hundreds or even tens of thousands. If that’s the case I’m happy they still put out this type of material.

Wel, well, well, well, well, well, well ... I am a big fan - I got all the relevant stuff (start in 1975 books, import vinyls, Cds, FTDs, - you know ... I AM HAPPY that some guys (you concrete) feels and says the same: For what really is this ON TOUR "special 50th" editon? We got all this! And make it short: Again so many mistakes ... a movie like we got it already many times ... the credit start with Teddy Bear/Don´t Be Cruel? - instead of the super start JOHNNY B. GOODE? - for waht is this???? - after finally the super sets 1969 studio sessions & Nashville studio sessions - WE LIKE AND NEED STUFF LIKE THIS - near the FTD things ... I AM COLLECTIING REALLY MANY THINGS ... but - soory --- this box I will not purchase it ---- AND LET ME ADD THIS IMPORTANT: I HOPE THE MAKERS OF THE HOLLYWOOD-MOVIE will save all the works of their recordings with Austin Butler: 1969 NBC works " International Show Room 1970 works ... this is nicely done (I never looked any other movie about Elvis - if another actor is doing Elvis --- I don´t lik (and need) ETAs anyway ... IGAW drop out could have been easily fixed using Warner audio. Sony and Warner obviously don’t have a communication line except legal bitching. As far as unreleased footage goes, that’s a Warner call, their agenda is hard to follow.

Without the "unseen footage" what good is it? Just rehashed/repackaged.

I have the Triangle releases of Hampton Roads and Greensboro and these official releases blow both of them away. I have the Madison release of Richmond and again the official release blew it away. The remixed San Antonio show is far better then what was released in the Close Up box set. I also have the Madison releases of the rehersal material and AGAIN these official releases blow them away! The Blu ray? Didnt get it when it first came out so its a plus to have. The negatives? The way they put the cd's in the sleeves is just stupid and I have no clue as to why they did that. And not having a Blu ray or dvd of the 4 shows not included stinks BUT I didnt expect those to be included and people need to realize that we will more then likely NEVER see the unreleased footage of the 4 shows. For 50 plus years we have been screaming for an official release of the 4 concerts in complete form from Sony/BMG and in my opinion they delivered with great sounding cd's which are far better then what we have gotten from the bootleggers. Hell just to have Hampton Roads COMPLETE and in excellent sound is worth it to me. I will be getting the album Elvis Live 72 to go along with this set. Is this set a swing and a hit? For me yes it is. The big crime of this whole thing was not listing Ronnie Tutt on the credits. WTF Sony/BMG? They need to make a statement as to why they left him off the credits. Was it deliberate? Or a mistake? They need to say something or at least Ernst should. That all being said. I am totally happy with the release save for a few small gripes and I am greatful to have Elvis's 4 April shows now officially released and in excellent sound quality along with the rehersals.

Wish they would have released all the video out-takes and unreleased footage available on bootleg pirate dvds

Sony could not do that as they do not own the rights to the movie. Warner’s do and Sony will get what Warner’s are prepared to give them.

Stating the obvious here but could you imagine the technology we have now existing back then the footage we would have of the great man the interaction with fans like your Mum & Dad getting that close and recording their own interactions with him , I mean imagine a lady going up for a kiss as he hung over the stage but she’s videoing herself with her phone . Bit of a mad comment I know but wouldn’t it be a dream to have had that tech then . Best wishes from Ireland 🇮🇪 TCB my man .

have heard from some elvis fans that some of these on tour box sets have some factory defects on the outer box where 2 of the sides on the edge are bent a little so the cardboard has some bends, it is of course from the factory, but you pay a lot of money for that ,. I don't know if some of you have been exposed to the same. as I said only a few cases

Still waiting on mine to come...but I am very disappointed to find out that the Blu-Ray is not the corrected theatrical version with Johnny B. Goode! That re-edit just kills the opening for me and you can't tell me that by now they have not been able to negotiate with the Chuck Berry people to get this approved. Crazy!!

Agree totally... Didn't buy the set, as at nearly £100 it's very pricey.. I have the bluray On Tour.. Compared to TTWII Special Edition, I was disappointed... Only vision and sound wise.. It seems Sony... Warner Bros are only concerned about money and not quality & value... Hoping Mr Baz Lurhman can work out a deal for the footage with Warner Bros as his movie did exceptionally well... Increasing interest & profit... Which hopefully will motivate them to release a Quality release, before we all perish 🤔😉
