Yes. Also, when Jesse Eisenberg was trying to quote the Omnipotence paradox, he got it wrong. What he said was, "If God is all powerful, He cannot be all good. If He is all good, he cannot be all powerful." The actual paradox is "If God is all powerful, can he make a rock that He himself cannot lift?" Omnipotence was a measure of how God can have infinite powers, not whether he is infinite in His morality. The implication was His morality or lack thereof was based on His strength. What Jesse Eisenberg is saying in his lines is establishing a link between morality and power that he himself doesn't believe and the two aren't even connected in this movie anyways. The core theme of this entire movie is wrong because of Jesse Eisenberg's reddit atheism. This movie doesn't even get their strawman of religion right!

It really depends on what bothers the viewer the most. Some people think an annoying movie is worse and some people think that a boring movie is worse. For me an annoying movie will always be more bad than a boring movie. A movie being boring could just be a person not getting invested into the movie. A movie being annoying is the greatest sin for cinema because you go to watch a movie for entertainment but instead you get angry and annoyed doing the complete opposite of what movies should do.

I don't think any other version of Lex Luther would go straight to blowing up the court. He would use his money to get an all star legal team against Superman and bring in other witnesses like the guy in wheelchair as well as others who probably blame Superman for what happened in Metropolis. Even if Louis managed to show those Africans were killed using Lexcorp bullets, I imagine Lex Luther could claim ignorance or shift the blame. Plus there is still an argument that there are other instances in which Superman's actions have lead to the deaths or injury of others. An actual court case of Superman playing out in this movie could have been interesting to see.

I mean...we hear and see behind the scenes that these studios do have think-tanks and lore experts that help build a story in the writers' room and on set. Star Wars, MCU, WB/DCEU, James Bond, Game of Thrones, name it. But its like they're all on drugs, or work in their sleep or something... I mean then again, we've heard of reshoots and rewrites and studio meddling, and Zack Snyder personally admits he can't take men in costumes seriously, so f*ck it, I'll take ten things I like from ten comics at random and force it all into one movie. And then there's that hilarious clip of JJ Abrams wiping the floor with the lore guys by saying, "Yeah, but its not cool enough. I'm just not feeling it." And Rian Johnson's "Yeah, but people expect that. So I'm just gonna do the opposite, for drama and subversion." Again, no, I don't want a shot for shot recreation, but there's fan-service and rule of cool and your own vision and take; and then there's desecrating the source material like its the bane of creativity, and compromising on quality by forcing things to make sense with contrived rubbish and ret-conning.

One of the worst sins of BvS is that it is almost a greatest hits of ruining potential. It fucks up batman vs superman by removing all the context of the fight. In the comics Batman and Superman were friends for years before their fight, in this they are strangers. It ruins Doomsday, one of the few villians that can fight the entire Justice League. It ruins the death of Superman, since the Justice League doesn't even exist yet we don't get to see them mourn his death. It ruins Lex Luthor by making on the most calculating and dangerous villians a wacky pseudo riddler-esque villian.

That’s the one thing about fictional characters. You can say that Batman is the world’s greatest detective or that Lex Luthor is the most intelligent and ruthless man on the planet, but ultimately both of them will only be as smart as the writer of the story… and we do know that Zack Snyder is fascinated by shiny and jingly things. I'm still stuck on how Lois isn't being questioned as a Witness in the incident. Weren't there people who could put her at the scene while not having a vested interest in covering up the story (I would assume the wives of the people killed want their husband's killer caught, whether or not it's specifically Superman)? Does the general public (since the government already has more context as you mentioned) know Superman has anything to do with Lois Lane specifically to like suggest a conflict of interest or something? What if she testifies "these people were killed with fire arms and conventional weapons"? Even if they can't find the Lex bullets, the people would still have bullet wounds, and they could demonstrate that Superman's eye lasers cut through rather than ignite to explain the body burnings.

1:33:45 That's actually kind of close. Lex Luthor feels threatened by Superman. Lex came from nothing and came to own Metropolis. Hell, Lex built most of Metropolis. In the comics, Lex is an unparalleled genuis, wealthy beyond reason, and wields unquestionable authority and respect in every aspect of civilized life in the United States. Then this meathead (compared to him, anyway) Superman comes out of nowhere and suddenly the crowd has a new favorite. Superman saves Metropolis, the world even, all the time, and for all the hard work, the scheming, the wealth, the power, Superman can match Lex's impact by just showing up. Just existing. It drives Lex mad to think about it, and he's an unparalleled genuis, so he's always thinking. Lex's driving force is his egotism and the desire to see Superman humbled before his magnificence. This movie's Lex? Fuck if I know, I think he's got a bit of that but it mainly seems like daddy issues and childhood neglect.

Whether by Clark or by nuke, he's gone, and the rest of the story didn't need to happen. Instead, Doomsday somehow plummets back to Earth without Clark, barely hurt after a moment to shed his skin. @@williamcronshaw5262 There's another problem: there is a name for an older Batman that's willing to use guns and kill people, and that name is *_Thomas_* Wayne. A key part of the Flashpoint storyline was that, in the ruined timeline, Bruce died in the alley while Thomas and Martha lived, resulting in Thomas becoming a broken version of Batman and Martha becoming The Joker. The DCEU was already planning a Flashpoint film around the time of BvS (and they're still trying to make it), and Snyder chose to make his Bruce Wayne indistinguishable from Thomas Wayne.

44:30 So I'm gonna push back a little bit on the idea of criminals killing other, worse criminals being dumb. In real life, it's actually a documented, if somewhat lesser know, phenomenon where criminals convicted of particularly heinous crimes (rape, spree killing, hate crimes, human trafficking), especially against "vulnerable" persons, are treated much more harshly, by both prison staff and other inmates. It's important to remember, and I am by no means a criminal sympathizer here, that not everybody in prison is morally bankrupt. Lots of people make bad decisions out of desperation, and/or while under negative social influences (and drugs), and others turn over a new leaf while imprisoned. The short version is, SOME inmates have moral standards, and they have, in the past, organized the murders of other inmates they consider to be worse than themselves.

The movie is clearly making fun of Christianity, so the fact that it uses Christian iconography and pretends to hold all this reverence is disgusting. People who aren’t religious will find it hamfisted and dumb, and people who are will find it insulting and dumb. Also as a fan of Superman this movie is the single biggest waste of potential since... well this came out before the squeal trilogy or GOT season 8, so it was just the biggest waste of potential period. The Superman v. Batman comics that inspired this movie was written by a man who hated Superman, the death of Superman and Doomsday were the penultimate Comics to ever exist and it’s just wasted on a third act of this shlock! Next movie they waste the return of Superman and so we have spent the best story line in the DC as a footnote in two of the worst superhero movies of all time!

Also, for Batman being the one to rescue Martha, it might've made sense if they had it that Batman or Lois pointed out that Batman can actually break into the place *_stealthily_* and thus avoid them killing her, since Superman is a lot of things but stealthy isn't one of them, but that would also require *Batman then breaking in stealthily,* and instead they went with him brute-forcing his way in because of course they did.

I feel like Batman is better when not killing to show he goes farther and does more work because he can't take the easy way out. Batman has enough gear to fight people with guns and the skills to win in the end and as soon as he starts killing he will lose public support if we were realistic. The problem isn't just he is killing its that he's just a murderer in many of these and doesn't care if they were hired security or etc etc when moving them down. He can't clean up thr city through taking easy ways out. Batman isn't doing this because legally he can for Christ's sake he's killing people because he's indifferent and that makes him worthless unless we see him get to the point. If he's forced to kill who cares but if he's not then he's really not the hero. Even when its tough not to and when he honestly wants to, he also knows he won't be able to come back when he makes the choice (not being forced to like you guys had a whole debate about which was just stupid Batman is also the greatest detective so if anyone could get out I believe he could) to do so (also not like Batwomen potrayed it). If he kills he loses his V card. Vigilante I mean but there's also the fact about how not only will he slip but ... If batman goes full killing he should be using guns like his edgy dad in Flashpoint but this batman is lame because not only can he not choose between either, he is also really violent when he doesn't have to be. On a meta level he also slips away from being a character worth respecting and being the character people like in the first place. Being rich might even play a part in how he had the opportunity to use his resources to not have to kill when others who lost and didn't have his situation might have gone down a dark path and ended up as criminals. And if someone starts killing people because Batman does it that just creates chaos and vigilantes with hero complexes getting hurt or getting others hurt. I think it also sends a message he could always kill them if he wanted but he can take on fully armed men with just his fists leading more to the fear element and imply the rest yourself, but it just works better than boring dumbass murderer batman.

If Batman gave up killed out of anger (probably the Joker) he would retire if anything. The way Batman is as we know him would be on his knees broken and saying he isn't fit before some kind of redemption arc or passing on the cape. This as compared to Batman becoming ambivalent to the idea of making decisions that consciously result in death (so I count the "branding" as much as a life taken with his tools/fighting) I think the example given was Batman's health deteriorating to the point that he nearly has a heart attack or something on the job and has to use a gun to avoid dying. I forget if the scenario actually ended with a kill, but the fact that he even had to entertain the notion essentially convinced him "I'm not able to do this 'right' anymore".

@@papershadow I can't say for sure because I haven't read that but even if it's flawed that's still the ideology that makes Batman ... well .... Batman. You can find it at the core of many of his stories like even if "son of batman" is meh in places I think there's this line that goes "it's not about what's easy, it's about doing whats right because it's right and that's the only reason you need" or something when he has to explain to the poorly potrayed son character in that movie. They of course could contradict this still because he murders some man bats with explosives later not because Batman would do that but because the writing isn't great or else the story would pick up on it. So again Batman wouldn't really get to the murder everyone while they don't pose that much if a threat kind of deal and superman wouldn't be an asshole with a God complex who believes might makes right. Yes sometimes these ideologies can be childish but thats the only thing really making DC characters different than the rest is their complex morality and how heroes need to go above and beyond to do what's right. There's also the Red Hood talk that shows not only is Batman able to go beyond normal humans in a fight even a former Robin (so he doesn't need to use guns to win a fight) and he still won't kill Joker no matter how much it hurts him and others. There's shitty parts of Batman comics as well like how they try to set up all Batmans romantic ventures with his sidekicks because they run out of ideas and its really gross. Batman totally has superpowers if we are honest just not like the other meta humans, he has the peak of what a human mind and body can reach and mastery over so many different fields. To the point compared to a normal human he might as well be super but he achieved it through human means so he's still human.

Addressing the second point first, absolutely, blowing your universes "whole party team up to fight big bad comic villain and superman fucking dies" on the SECOND film in the series is retarded. Ruins the whole thing. As for the first point, no I think Batman being a psychopath is not worse than super 911 2: electric boogaloo, the revengence. At most assuming like a thousand people died every night by Batman's hands for 20 years, he wouldn't even come close to Superman's death count in one day. If you want to talk about fucking up his character then sure, I think best Batman is murder-less Batman. But the idea that Batman willfully doing something wrong to criminals (Punisher style) being worse then Superman willfully allowing the greatest disaster in human history to happen out of pure negligence doesn't sit right with me. It's like a person pushing an old lady down the stairs vs watching and allowing 100,000 old ladies fall in front of a train and doing nothing despite being able to save them. Its about scale. I feel like there is a critical mass of collateral damage that a character can accrue before just "sorry I didn't mean for it to happen like this... :(" Just doesn't cut it. Yeah BM is a piece of shit in this movie, but God Damn does SM have blood on his hands. Like Batman believes that he is making the world a better place by killing these guys in an 'Ends justify the Means' kind of way, but superman has just such a flagrant disregard for people's lives in Man of Stism that if he was actually charged, Manslaughter would not begin to describe it.

And for the man of steal I can agree that Zack got lost in the fighting but if he really did try to prevent them from going into big cities, Zod would just come back. It’s clear that he’s just trying to push superman to doing it and will stop at nothing, killing as many civilians as possible. And superman isn’t necessarily fine with getting those people killed as he tries atoning for it in the court room (at least that’s what I picked up from it, please correct me if I’m wrong) and has his opportunity quite literally blown out of his reach.

@@ihatecrowbars3572 So firstly I never tried to insinuate Batman as a hero in BVS. As I said he is a murderous piece of shit in BVS working on a consequentialist 'Punisher' style of vigilantism. I don't like how he is portrayed in the film. I think his methods are too brutal and his actions disqualify him as a "Hero". The problem is I think the exact same thing can be said for Superman in the Snyderverse, only worse than Batman. You see Batman at least purposely sets out to do terrible things in the name of some sense of greater good. This makes him more of an anti hero, not good, but also not unredeemably evil. Batman has always walked the line between good and evil... even when he doesn't kill he still severely maims and injures people without any authority or consequence. Therefore the step from hero to antihero is not that large. Superman on the other hand purposely sets out to do good things but due to his gross negligence and incompetency ends up committing the greatest act in negligent manslaughter history has ever seen! His actions lead to the direct deaths of millions of people and yet he faces no consequences and feels no guilt for it. Like I said, Batman at his worse killing 1000 people nightly for 20 years wouldn't even reach Superman's death toll in one day. Now I'm not sure when the last time you saw MoS was but Clark could easily have taken the aliens out of populated areas. the whole "They would just come back" is just straight wrong. The aliens were after Clark specifically, they followed him wherever he went and only engaged with humans when provoked (soldiers, planes, tanks etc...). They didn't just rush head long into the city and start wiping out people at random, they were after Clark, and had Clark simply flown to an open field, they would have followed. Even Zod in the final fight could have been taken to a civilian free zone (The harbor for example) had Clark literally done anything beside rush straight at him. Superman also doesn't go to the court in BVS to 'atone' for anything. He only goes to defend himself from the accusations of immolating some terrorists. He didn't show any signs of guilt from what happened in in MoS in BVS, and in MoS he shows no guilt or shame for the destruction he wrought on Metropolis... He kissed Louis in the midst of a graveyard filled with bodies and death, showed no effort in helping to find survivors or clean up, and by the end showed no guilt when the military wanted to keep tabs on him, self confident in his own righteousness, not even a 'sorry' utters from his lips. Not that any amount of 'Sorry's would make up for the millions of people he got killed, but still. So not only is this such a far removed position from where Superman's character normally sits, its scale is much MUCH more destructive to the actual world (literally) than Batman's. So my stance will not change. I don't care if Batman went from a vigilante hero kneecapping criminals, to a vigilante antihero killing criminals... its not worse than Superman going from a respectable paragon of virtue and heroism, who always does his best, sees the good in people, and cares deeply about his actions and their effects on peoples lives, to an apathetic symbol of destruction and incompetency who brings danger to civilians haphazardly, and whos blunderous mistakes will casually wipe out entire cities, yet will feel no remorse nor guilt so long as he gets some of that Louis poon tang. MoS is garbage.

So I like how the movie just glosses over the CIA having aerial thermal footage of their man being shot before they planned to bomb that village so they should also have had footage of Lex’s Mercenaries killing the other people and driving off as they don’t launch the missiles until after that. Also that the movie suggests the problem wasn’t that the terrorists died but it was instead that Superman might have done the killing and that the CIA didn’t get to bomb them and potential witnesses. This movie’s inciting incident is so dumb, they should’ve just had revenge for the Metropolis Apocalypse Incident be it.

I wouldn't call that carefully. Some stand alone movies were either redundant or just made no sense when you think about it, like there were no Avengers when shit hit the fan in Iron Man 3 and Tony Stark was declared dead or missing, neither there were Avengers when shit hit the fan in the Winter Soldier. Captain America was declared as a fugitive and no Tony Stark with his dues ex machina tech to track him down and help? Spiderman was shoehorned in. No establishment of the character, neither we saw that Stark was keeping an eye on him. He was....just there. And if we include Agents of SHIELD into equation (because they are part of the universe) Stark is not knowing anout them, somehow, and they have superheroes of their own which are combat ready and would have been much better choice than some teen who didn't even see real combat. We have movies like Ragnarok which are there just to take Thor's hammer and place him at the certain place. We have movies like age of Ultron which were poorly executed and it was just rushed to move forward....just like that scene with Thor and that cave, which came out of nowhere. And now we have WandaVision been so redundant and unnecessary that burned 225 millions of dollars for the budget....WB spent 300 for shooting a film which is now known as Snydercut, plus the reshooting like 80% of the movie. So on and on.
