Growing up in a little village in Ghana, West Africa, my granny used to make this cake in a clay oven pre-heated with firewood. She didn't have vanilla so she used a bit of orange juice...defuckinglicious😋. Miss her a lot...😔

I tried making a cake but you needed an electric mixer so I couldn't make it. Had 4 eggs in a bowl mixed with sugar. It wasn't like I could just throw it out, and I found this video. After many fails I stumbled upon this video and decided to give baking one last chance and I'm so satisfied with the result! It's exactly what I expected it to be. So yum! I did make a little change though.. I separated the whites and the yolks. Added sugar to the whites and later the yolks. I mixed them in a blender coz my arm strength sucks. It turned out perfect!

I think the water turns into steam and that cooks the cake. Lovely.

I just tried it . It's super good . I did make a few changes -If someone wants to bake it's 180 degrees for about 36 min (at least that worked for me) - brown butter gives a really nice smell

I made this cake in the oven yesterday and it did not disappoint. There were some comments here that there was too much butter in the recipe. I used the full amount and it needed it all; any less and it would have been too dry. I will be making this cake again. Very tasty.

I do this all the time.... I start by beating sugar and melted butter then put my 4 eggs beat, thheeennn I add the dry components(flour, baking powder or all purpose baking flour and a pinch of salt) 😋🎂🎂...... 😍😘I enjoyed the clip it's awesome especially for the beginners😃

Your doing it right By beating first the sugat and Melted butter😊

I tried this and here's my thoughts: If you don't have powdered sugar, just blend regular sugar then measure how much you need. That's what I did. The baking soda was a little too much. Not so bad that it ruins the cake but enough where you can taste it. I suggest halfing it. I made this is the oven at 350* for about 22 minutes, in the middle tray of the oven. This turned out GREAT, and i suck at cooking. will be making again, thank you

Tip: separate the yolk and the whites then whip each separately. Make sure to whip the egg whites until it's at stiff peaks then mix it to the batter to make the fluffiest of cakes.

@@dagani9812 Not true. Just make sure they’re very cold (just below freezing). You arm should be stronger than a home mixer. If tired then pass it on to the next person while you rest

Just made it but I haven't put it on the stove yet . It looks lovely but I didnt have the exact measures and it looks slightly watery,that it my fault though . I will give the results once it is cooked! Results: Oh my goodness , when you bite into this sponge cake your tastebuds will go flying!!! The sponge is at the perfect level if you follow instructions perfectly! 10/10 recommended .My mother and brother tried it and they loved it. Will make this again to help my mum with her guests!

That’s how my grate grandma taught me to do it, The only difference is she used a charcoal pot (for those who know what a charcoal pot is) rather than the stove, she was terrified with modern technology, she refused to have a refrigerator or a television and you can forget about a gas stove, cause that will burn the house down. I cherish the little time I had with her, she had a wonderful soul, she taught me a lot of things the old time way. She left us in December 1979, and still miss her today. Thank you very much grandma for those wonderful memories, I’ll always love you 😍

This recipe is amazing ...cake looks soft and thick i also made a sponge cake with a bit lesser ingredients and in almond cake style and made its toping as well...it also came out very good..keep it up👌

After preheating do you switch of the flame or you leave it while the cake is baking???

Omg one of the best recipes i have tried it was so yummmy i think it was like baked really good and then the softness it had my parents even loved it the sugar level was so good

@@elijahsimpson3503 i made it under 200 degrees but i don't remember the minutes.. when i see it was getting red on the top, i checked it with toothpicks and if it is not sticky then it means it is ready.

Incomplete instructions, the recipe does not say what temperature to run the hot plate, I had to throw my cake in the dustbin as it smelt horribly of burnt oil. I had kept my hot plate on medium.
