EAST Sound vs. WEST Sound on Orcas Island, WA...plus a Q&A with the Freedom Crew!!! [NORDHAVN 43]

Happy Sunday!
Come along with us as we do a little more exploring in East Sound on Orcas Island before pulling up anchor to head over to West Sound. We loved our time at anchor in East Sound, but once the wind shifted and picked up from the south, we decided to check out the more remote and protected West Sound just around the bend.
We LOVED both and really can't say one was more enjoyable than another. But after having so much fun at the Orcas Island Winery and hiking Turtleback Mountain, WS might have an edge over ES...but you can be the judge :)
Also, we hope you enjoy our real-time Q&A. If you'd like to be a part of an upcoming Q&A with the Freedom Crew, head over to our Instagram page and ask away! Not on IG? That's cool too, drop your name, location and question in the comments below and we'll try our best to get your question answered!
P.S. Leaving a "Name" and "Location" with your question is code for "hey guys, I'd love for you to answer my question(s) in your next video!"
Enjoy!

Literally every day if not many times per day! Especially since we’re living a life we always joked about but never really thought would be a possibility for us, and we know far too many people who waited to do this but got ill and/or passed away before actually putting things into action 🙏🏻 🙏🏻 🙏🏻

In your previous video you stopped and had ice cream. When we visit your area we have a few favourites. Sirens Gelato in Fairhaven, a short walk from the water. Hands down gelato over ice cream any day😋. Other must visit sites , but not near the water, Maltby cafe on Maltby rd for breakfast, incredible! And Snoqualmie Scoopshop, best tiger tail I have ever had. So many destinations, so little time! As always, have a great week.

Very envious. I spent many weeks at Rosario area. My folks lived there for over 16 years and my Dad was Inside Mgr at the resort. They are now both committed to the sea, right there in East Sound. Our good family friend once owned Rosario. If you look up on the top of the hill to the East of the resort you will see their house - the one on the left of the 3 up there. I often wanted to do what your doing but moved to cali instead. I kept the feeling by reading journals (b4 internet) of folks that did full time boating in the SJ's. If you haven't done it; be sure to visit the Nordic museum in Ballard. My mother in law was instrumental in that venture. You could likely walk from you boat. When we visit next April (tulip festival) I am going to try to look you all up in Elliott Bay; if you are not off to a big cruise.

I loved Rosario Resort when I visited. If I recall correctly, the resort was built by shipwrights and the craftsmanship was incredible .. massive doors with hand forged hinges that self closed and an impressive pipe organ in the great room. Also had it's own powerplant on site that provided DC power to the buildings, one of the first in the region. Loved that place! I'm a Milwaukee native, now living in Denver and I love your channel. Stay safe!

Great video. I love how Shawn takes apart boat systems all the time. I am the same way with my boat and my friends all think I am crazy. I tell folks, if you really want to own a boat, you have to enjoy doing that kind of thing. I think a lot of folks have a hard time understanding that. Did you figure out the drop out in the water maker production, i.e. when the ball was flipping to zero from 6+? You must be happy with your extra water production!

Andre Schimmelbusch yes owning a boat is mostly work and not as much play as most non boaters think. If you’re not technical, you better be ok opening up the pocket book to hire expensive mechanics. And no, we didn’t figure out the ball drop yet but it’ll be fun next New Year’s Eve 😉

Great, as usual. Love the Q&A at the end. I always wonder about comfort in that boat in really cold weather and really hot weather. Where you are located I suspect air conditioning is much less of a concern than heat, but how do you think she would do in Florida or the Caribean? Is the air conditioning system robust? I know there have been many Nordhavn owners who spend lots of time in hot weather, but I would love to hear what you say about that issue. Love your vibe, your videos, and I think you are both a great example of the freedom you can have in this country when you work hard and earn it. Thank you both!

Awesome video. Loved the q & a. Also the N40/43/47 question was interesting. If you went cruising with 2 young kids, like the Palmers. What would you say is the smallest Nordy you could get away with. The N55 would be out of our price range. Would you say you could make a 43/47 work? Do you ever have guests on your 43 and how does the space work for you then? Trevor, Australia

  • @mvfreedom

    @mvfreedom

    4 жыл бұрын

The N43 is great with another couple on board and could work well with one child. The interior is SO similar in size between the 43/47 that both might not work for two kids unless they’re very young and are OK sharing the guest cabin. But it certainly wouldn’t work for 2 older kids.

It latches into place when it’s open so we just always leave it like that at anchor when the dinghy is in the water.

Another great episode. I don't have Instagram can I ask a question here. Do you prefer water from shore sources or your watermaker? Thanks Also can you give us cell signal strength scores in your travels. No one does that. Thanks S&E&S.

Good question and of course, ask away even if you don’t have IG and we’ll cover it! Also for Internet, Shawn did a strength test at 10:38 in a previous video kzread.info/dash/bejne/omVp3Lupf8zHe8o.html. Check it out!

It's fun and refreshing to walk to a nice place for libations. It's horrible and dangerous to stagger back drunk and about to pass out into traffic. Let's see you do it on roller skates next time.

Did you two get a chance to go on the hike to Mount Constitution? its in Moran State Park east of Rosario. Highest peak on the island and 260 views of the San Juans. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Constitution

Boat maintenance looks super annoying and not at all appealing.. I realize things need to be done but really..?

Shawn’s totally OCD with boats, but with all of the salt water and salty air the amount of cleaning done is actually pretty necessary 😏

So frustrating to have to hear the ignorance of some people. Why don’t you just stay locked up if you are so worried about catching the virus.

Would be interested if this gentleman is a "No mask" abuser? This attitude has all the ignorance of early HIV. Mask-social distance and if you are really concerned face shield. Be wise NOT dumb!
