Dungeon Master Tells Woman Player How To Play Women Characters

Ойын-сауық

In today's episode of DnD Horror Stories, we have a tale about an evil campaign that gets a tad off the rails. Then we have a story about a male dungeon master that tells a female player that she can't properly play a woman character.

The most fun part about a fantasy role player game is that you do not have to be what you are. Tall people can be a Dwarf, Goblin, or Halfling. Very short people can be Goliaths, Firbulgs, or Bugbears. We can be male, female, or androgynous. We can be Angels (Aasimar) and Demons (Tieflings). Why is it so difficult to let people have their own thoughts, ideas, and fantasies?!?

I remember a similar experience happened to me and was also posted here. I will never understand how a male can tell a girl how to be female, at all. In my current campaign, I, a dude, am playing a female doctor who Is with the party out of necessity, since she's being hunted for poisoning a well with viagra. She suffers from being the only (somewhat) sane member of the cavalcade of misfits and having to clean up their messes and patch them up, she's always on the verge of having a mental breakdown. Why did I say this? Playing a woman isn't so different than playing a man. First you get them as a character, then you add their gender on top of it and voila.

A fight in a tomb with two mummy seductresses? Sounds like the 3rd level module in Pathfinder 1E, "Pyramid of the Pharaoh of Sphinxes." In the module, the two "mummies" are actually zombie lords who would try to illustriously distract the party into a vulnerable position (such as getting the cleric separated for a quick kill) while draining their strengths overtime before pouncing; a valid tactic for semi-intelligent undead. The module is free to acquire, so I can imagine the GM getting that for a quick game.

I just wanted to point out regarding the last story; In Call of Cthulhu, premades with set genders are an actual thing. It's common to make a scenario, and to publish characters to go along with it as if you made them for a story. You as the DM *can* make it however you like, but this is often for story hooks, depth and is a long-standing trait with the system. With what happened in that tale, that was definitely controlling, and felt that Kevin was mad that the wife wasn't acting a certain way to his liking. His behavior is definitely a red flag.

A small note for our resident canine narrator: "Witch" is a class name in Pathfinder. There is a good chance that the "Witch" in the team was actually a male character as well. Second story: So, if an actual woman can’t play a woman right, who the fuck CAN? It sounds to me like Ken is just a misogynist who will only accept girls in his campaign if they’re “not like other girls” and not only reject anything that society has deemed feminine, but also make a point of putting down anyone who isn’t as “manly” as them.

Lawful-Evil characters are the best, most interesting way to play an evil character. You have to be able to learn and interpret the word of law to suit your needs and advance your personal goals while also adhering to a personal code of honor / ethics that you won't cross. When someone says they want to play a Chaotic-Evil character, or a Neutral-Evil character, that's usually a red flag that means they want to be a general asshole, especially in the prior case. Neutral-Evil is less of a red flag, but having played Neutral-Evil characters myself, adhering to that alignment generally means 'screw the law, screw ethics, and screw everyone who gets in my way, I just won't shitpost about it'. But when someone says they want to be Lawful-Evil, they have my attention.

Two players, that we did not know, made chaotic evil necromancer and chaotic evil bard. We were members of Yuan-Ti lead organization in home-brew world. First games were nice, take over village here, solve trade disputes here. But then chaotic evils started to be murderhobos. We looked it about few sessions, warned them about consequences and finally we had enough and planned how to kill them. Campaign ended to the death of bard and necromancer.
