People always ask me how come I never go gar fishing and I stand by this statement, but I'm black, so I refuse to ever get my fit or my shoes this muddy. 😂

Hey everyone, as always I expect plenty of "not 120lb bro!" Just remember, I was there, you weren't. Also I don't care, lol This fish was just about six feet in length without his caudal fin intact, so a good 6' 5" of alligator gar (with the fin accounted for) and pretty fat. I think 120 is a fair estimate. I know it says 130lb on the thumbnail. It's a typo and I forgot to change it.

What a beast of a Gar! I also like the alarms you use as well look like for carp fishing but great overall indicators
Those fish look like they escaped from Jurrasic Park. Insane looking predators. Great vid!
Great fishing!!! And such respect for the fish and nature! Excellent video.
Gar are the fighting monsters of the river .
Who needs to go to the Gym! Just be a Gar Fisherman! Man that was epic seeing you give those monsters a cuddle! Just an aside, but that Penn reel and gold rod combo is full Jedi cool setup!

Thanks, the guys at Brackish Water Customs made it for me
Payton, the content you produce is just AMAZING! The fish you are able to reel in and show us are things that 95% of viewers would never otherwise see. Thank you for the conservation work you do. For always releasing these beautiful living dinosaurs back into the water they came from. Also, thank you for ignoring the haters and naysayers, and having the ability to laugh at the ignorant, and see through the trolls and keyboard warriors. You are the GOAT when it comes to landing these living dinosaurs. Anyone who says otherwise isn’t dealing with reality. Fish on, Peyton. Please keep making fantastic content. I really don’t know how you don’t have a million followers already, but I know you’ll get there if you keep making the quality content you’re making right now! 👏😎
You're a Monster on ther river bro!!! What a beast of a prehistoric specimen, absolutely amazing creature!! Great job with the release.. Wish more ppl around here would learn to appreciate top notch genetics and release the big ones.

I went back a few times since that video with no luck. Gonna try again soon.
I wonder if big fish like this are solitary? I know these two were in the same general area but it'd be interesting to know how many big ones are close together. Side note, I think we need to invent a landing mat for these things
@wildlifefishingshow
Жыл бұрын
It's a good question. Dr. Solomon David would know, you can find him on Instagram and Twitter, probably the top gar biologist in the world. And I agree. I tried to find some large mats for Wels catfish a few months ago but came up short.

@@wildlifefishingshow I'll have to check him out! Absolutely fascinating creatures. I was thinking that what makes the rope so effective is that it's collapsible at the precise moment you need it to be. If a mat could be made to do something similar it'd be easier on you and the fish

Why don’t people EAT those GAR ?
@wildlifefishingshow
Жыл бұрын
Because they are a vulnerable species, reproduce very slowly, and are very old. It's legitimately ethically irresponsible to eat them.
