DON'T REDUCE TOO MUCH - Blur Adaptation and Measurement - Endmyopia 14 [Day 118]

Particular note about this video, although I realised I had reduced too quick, it's only in the next video I realised my original starting point for my normalised had been too low all along, and finally in the next video I actually start improving my eyes.
!!!WARNING!!!: In this video, I was not doing the correct things to improve my eyes and was under the influence of blur adaptation, a condition where it's easy to think you're improving your eyes when you're not. I have since started doing the correct things and have made real consistent improvement in my eyes, but this video is not to be taken as an example of what to do. Please see my explainer video here where I tell you everything wrong with my older videos: • My Biggest Vision Impr...

    Always excited to see your videos Nottnott. I think taking the daily cm measurements has helped me to stay encouraged. I think my level of blur without glasses has improved but if I was not measuring daily then I wouldn't be able to see the steady improvement and might get discouraged. You can also watch the trends and discover that your vision doesn't always improve in a steady curve but sometimes takes jumps and plateaus.

    Hey bro, thanks for all your helpful videos. I discovered endmyopia about a month ago. At the time I had -3.00 in the left eye and -2.75 in the right eye. I didn't have any glasses with weaker prescriptions (other than my old ones) so I just reverted back to using them which had a strength of -1.75 and -1.5 diopters (I don't remember exactly). I wasn't aware that I had to use differentials which meant I used the weaker lens everyday both for looking at my laptop screen from about 60cm away and for long distance usage, practicing active focus whenever I can by looking out the window. I measured my eyesight using the Snellen chart on Jake's website and I can now see 20/25 with my -1.75 lens. However, I read on the blog that you're supposed to get a differential lens first and after 4 weeks use get your first reduced distance lens. I have found another pair of glasses lying around which allows me to see 20/40 on the snellen chart. For the time being, could I use the -1.75 lens for distance usage and the differential lens for close up? Can you please advise me on what to do now or if I am doing anything wrong?

    How do you explain people’s success with Bates method and Mark Warrens method? They both promote minimal glasses use and embracing the blur. I’m still learning and open to all methods that show success.

  • @NottNott

    @NottNott

    4 жыл бұрын

    You can probably get success with less good methods. You have to look at the studies which show myopia is clearly a byproduct of axial elongation. If you can question how either of those methods addresses that cause, you're onto a winner. Bates method encourages eye exercises like palming, swinging, eye lunges and other stuff (never did it). Does this provide a reason for the eye to change its shape in line with clinical studies? Mark Warren says his method can induce clear flashes in people with myopia as high as -9. He says you don't need to wear glasses starting at -4, and myopia is 80% mental and not physical. Is that in line with clinical studies that clearly demonstrate a link between axial length and myopic blur? For the record, there are many studies showing axial change is possible, in either direction as well. I just follow the science. Mark does come across as a nice guy, but he lacks the two-decades long experience that Jake has had when it comes to tackling myopia, and the lack of detail comes across in his 'method', which is essentially endmyopia without details and Bates thrown in with added peripheral vision. I'm at odds to understand why people are so keen for him compared to a resource that has been around for much longer with a much larger pool of success reports and an emphasis on science. I reckon you can probably improve with either method however - you're just setting yourself up for a lot of pain and delay. When I wasn't wearing a good pair of normalised (glasses reduced just correctly with good stimulus of myopic defocus) it seemed to wipe out any results I could get, when I was reducing too quickly. If either method is telling you to embrace the blur, seriously be doubtful and question that, first hand experience over a long time tells me that's not going to help, measurements did not improve at all for that time period. Clinical blur adaptation is a real thing though, you can look that up for what you could expect instead. Of course. that's just my two cents, you're welcome to try whatever you like, and whatever you do you'll probably have a lot of fun doing it :D

  • @sherekhan53

    @sherekhan53

    Thanks for the thoughtful response. I’m drawn to aspects of Bates and Mark Warren’s teachings because they focus on relaxing the ciliary muscle and bringing more light into your eyes. Supposedly lenses do not allow light to penetrate into your eyes as much. light is supposed to help with the healing. I know Jake is all about the stimulus. This is where he diverges from the others. I’ll have to look into more of the research that Jake provides and continue trying to achieve the elusive active focus... over 1 month trying and have only experienced a slight focus a couple times.

    I have -1.75 in both eyes will plus lenses help?

  • @neildoerdan2298

    @neildoerdan2298

    4 жыл бұрын

    It depends how you use them. Pilots for example need 20 20 vision to be able to fly, so when their eyesight starts to go they often use plus lenses to help get it back by forcing the eye to think it needs to change shape faster to get back to the correct vision. At -1.75 you are slightly past that phase, but if you take into effect the over correction, that many opticians provide, you may only be at -1.25 or lower. If you were to follow the endmyopia adivce then just removing your glasses while outside and trying active focus may be enough to get back to 20 20. Note that the hardest part for most people who have got there, is the -1 back to 20 20. Please note that I am no expert and i only offer advice that I have come across which seems sensible. In my own journey using plus lenses to reduce contacts i wear for close up has created a close up issue that matches long sightedness/presbyopia. But I also have been doing far too much close up time recently (for last year) that has not helped the journey.
