A Beginner's Guide to Endmyopia (vision improvement)

This is a crash course of Endmyopia and how to improve your vision. The important stuff is ALL HERE. Discord: / discord

Mistakes:
There's a mistake at 11:39. The formula of 100/cm = diopters is for calculating your level of myopia, not the amount you should reduce by. So say you measure 16.1cm. 100/16.1 = 6.211. Round that to a 0.25 interval, which is 6.25. Then subtract from this number to get your differentials, so reduce by between 1 or 2 diopters. If you reduce by 1 diopters, you will be undercorrected by 1. Rearranging the equation 100/cm = diopters to 100/diopters = cm, at undercorrection of 1 you will have a blur horizon of 100cm. Likewise a reduction of 2 diopters will give you a blur horizon of 50cm, 2.75 diopters 36cm etc. You want a blur horizon that lets you see just far enough to your screen where you are still comfortable.
Details people have asked about:
Q: Astigmatism for differentials?
A: If you have below -1 CYL in an eye, you should consider getting rid of CYL correction for both differentials and normalized in that eye. Otherwise, just reduce CYL in line with your normalized over time, and just heavily reduce the SPH for differentials.
Q: After correcting ciliary spasm, do you measure yourself to know your new myopia or go to the optometrist?
A: Either will work. There may be a bit of trial and error getting to a good normalized correction, but once you're in the swing of it you can consistently go down and you won't question where your eyes are again. Self measuring isn't innaccurate when done properly, that's what I would do.
Q: Does the formula for calculating differentials work for even closer objects, like a book?
A: Yes.
There are finer details that have been left out, especially how to find Active Focus. You are encouraged you use more resources than just this video.

    Because YOU didn't, Jake. You claim to encourage your community to figure out things for themselves and spend a good deal of time condescending to them about how they shouldn't want step-by-step guides because that makes them "sheep" and they need to treat this as a college course, when the reality is that your EndMyopia material is virtually incomprehensible without guidance. Of course, there's a difference between taking a class with a professor vs. getting a textbook and piecing everything together yourself. But your free material is not analogous to a textbook, it's rather like if you cut up the textbook, stapled random pages together, rearranged the order, and added superfluous fluff. Your KZread clips and articles have so little information that my time is wasted for a good 70% of the time I'm on EndMyopia stuff. There is no starting point, there's about 30 seconds of useful content per video, you send people on endless redirects, etc. You want people to pay you, I get it. But stop gaslighting your community, telling them that they're sheep, they're lazy, and they have attitude problems, when in reality, you're just producing incomprehensible garbage.

    Literally none of the countless eye doctors I saw told me that I don't need to wear my myopia glasses for close up work. I ended up having lots of eye strains and floaters after using myopia glasses for close up work (and computer works). Unbelievable! And all eye doctors I saw are very impatient and not willing to work with you. They just want to write prescription and get you out of their office. If you ask to adjust, they look at you like a crazy person for not just being happy with their first prescription. Thank you for this video.

    I have been saying this since forever though and my point proves your point as well. When I was young I use to play allot of video games and watch TV, I needed glasses, then when I was a teen i stopped watching tv and playing games opting to listen to music and go out with friends, come my 3 year eye exam I no longer needed glasses and my vision was perfect to which my optician claimed it was down to wearing my glasses, upon me telling her I never wore them she then went on to tell me that my eyesight wasn't prefect and I should continue wearing my glasses when watching tv or reading(ironic 360 she did, still makes me laugh).. Now as an adult I spend more time inside my house and I play/type on a 60 inch tv that is an arm length away, yep I need glasses again, but ironically enough getting a new job and being away from the screen for the majority of the day i'm noticing an improvement in my vision again.. So I totally believe this videos and the information given because I have first hand experience.

    13:00 Low Myopia, is when you can read most of the letters on the 20/50 line, both eyes open, over several days. It is always critical that you verify this, objectively. Check this, to find the minum minus power to, "just clear", the 20/30 Line. It will probably be about -1.0 diopters. (I gave up on OD measurements, a long time ago.)

    Hi! I would like to thank you so much for this video since you made every concept much clearer to me. I came across endmyopia in 2019 after I was sent to the optometrist in August 2018 because my right eye was itchy. I was told I was 2.0 on my right eye and 1.00 on my left eye. Later I started having migraines and I felt I had been sent glasses with overprescription. Fast forward to February 2019 and I discovered that my vision was very blurry when trying to check the whiteboard of a college classroom, even with the lense on. Later on, I got a new eye exam which said that I was 1.25 on both eyes even though I have better vision on my right eye. My question is, how do I find an optometrist that will provide me with differentials and glasses with less diopters? here in Colombia they seem to always make you buy the glasses they formulate and only those.

    Wow, that was one of the best videos surrounding myopia i've ever seen. just gonna watch the video and ask questions as I go. feel free to answer any that you know something about, would appreciate some clarification/assistance. 1. will this improve astigmatism as well? 2. When I went to the eye doctor after a 3 year gap they told me that my prescription was much worse than before, yet I can still see 20/20 clearly with my glasses I got in 2019. does this mean I was overprescribed? 3. how much does dry eye and eye strain affect your vision? Before I started getting these regularly, I did not remember my vision being this bad until these became issues for me 4. Do eye drops help at all? I've noticed my vision is better when I use these regularly, And have even had "clear flashes" shortly after using them. Once again thanks for the information, very well put together video.

  • @professional.commentator
    @professional.commentator3 жыл бұрын

    Love the video!! It's probably the best introduction video to Endmyopia I've seen so far! But I would like to add that you failed to mention the importance of dominant eye vs non-dominant eye. If you think about it, there's really no need for the glasses to have different diopters for different eyes. Like I just got my new pair of glasses today, they are normalized, but they have the same diopters on both lenses even though I have different diopters in each eye because one eye will always be more dominant than the other. So it's more comfortable and better for both lenses to be the same so the eye can easily adapt to the negative stimulus. If one lense has one diopter and another lense has another diopter, everything gets all messed up and the brain starts becoming stressed from not knowing which eye should be the dominant one. You get what I mean?

  • @NottNott

    @NottNott

    3 жыл бұрын

    Glad you liked it. I don't think it's particularly important - these four main things are things I need to do every day to be successful. Whether an eye is dominant hasn't made a big difference in my approach to vision improvement admittedly, it might explain how things got a certain way with myopia though, so more of a progression topic than for improvement.

    That is a good point about evolutionary adaptation. Any genetic trait that appears to be negative has something called balanced polymorphism. For example, sickle cell looks bad, but it actually provides an advantage to people living in areas with malaria. Therefore, it was not selected against.

    Hello nottnott, so I’m about to turn 16 (still in the growing age) and I’ve -4.00 in my left eye and -4.50 in my right eye. I really understand the concept if this video and was just wondering if you can still do these steps to improve your eyesight at my age? Also, is it true that spending more time outdoors with sunlight (without glasses) is of any help to reduce the progression of Myopia? I’ve recently managed my screen time to when I absolutely need to use it or if it’s for entertainment. Thank you.

    I read the Bates method book in the 1960's. I have done the exercises on and off ever since. I do the exercises faithfully for a while and then slack off because of lack of improvement. I always read and do very close work without glasses. For mid range, like looking at a magazine, my vision is blurry with or without glasses 🕶️. I have a very strong prescription with astigmatism. I have noticed over the last 20 or 30 years that when i get new glasses, the prescription seems wrong. A lack of clarity and sometimes distortions. I think the clarity issue is due to plastic lenses, as opposed to glass. An eye doctor told me the distortions were do to the correction for my astigmatism and I just wasn't used to the right way of seeing. I haven't been to an optometrist in about 10+ years still wearing my 10+ year old pair.

    I just discovered this video a few days ago and I must have rewatched this video about 10 times already. It is a great comprehensive summary of Jake's approach to vision improvement. I think I am going to do more reading on the endmyopia website and finish reading the daily e-mails. I think I will order some normalized and differential glasses in the next week or so. Luckily, I only have mild myopia --1.75 (L) and -2.00 (R) .... but I have -1.00 Astigmatism in the left eye. I am eventually going to buy normalized for daily life, going outside and differentials for PC work only and perhaps add blue light filters. Also, no glasses for using my phone and reading books Then,, I will start to reduce the lens correction incrementally over the months/years. I am going to measure my blur horizon from how I normally sit in front of my PC, so I can accurately dial in those differential lenses and measure my progress. Great content, brother.

    Thank you! I just calculated my blur horizon to 60cm, which, using the calculator is -1.75 diopters, which is about the same as my lens correction. My eyes usually sit around 70cms from my PC screen. Honestly, while there is a little blur, I could probably get by with either no glasses at all or just a very small correction (-0.25 sph or just a lens with my astigmatism correction only) and blue light filters for my differentials. Going to go outside with my normalized and work on blinking into focus and exercising my active focus muscle! Hopefully, my cilliary muscles can finally start to relax! This is great stuff!

    Hey, thank you so much for this guide, it was super clear! I know the rule for buying normalized is 0.25 diopters below your "actual" prescription, but how do really know your actual prescription? I went to the optometrist a week ago and the diopters she gave me were a different eye ratio than the centimeter measurements I have been doing. And even the centimeters, as you know, vary so much throughout the day and throughout the week. It seems like the only real solution to finding the right pair of normalized is opening your wallet and doing trial and error with different prescriptions until one pair feels right.

  • @NottNott

    @NottNott

    Sometimes that is the only real solution, it took me trial and error before I found the 'groove' of how I should be doing reductions. It's a problem you solve early, and then long term you don't have to think about it too much.

If it were as simple as just not wearing glasses I (and you too probably) never would have gotten near sighted in the first place after all.

A couple years later I caved in and got glasses because my vision had gotten a lot worse. My first pair of glasses was -2.25 and -2.75. Since I waited so long before getting glasses, does that mean ciliary spasm is the reason why my eyes were -2.25 and -2.75? Or is it possible to have axial elongation before wearing glasses? Remember, this was 2 years ago. So I just started this journey. And (edit, I have already went .25 diopters less than my prescribed) so now, I have -3.25 in both eyes. Hey man, congrats on all your gains! Quick question, I've had horrendous double vision for 6 months to the point where the ground is rising upwards with and without glasses. It is not due to CYL and it only began after starting endmyopia. I'm 99.9 percent sure it's due to a reduction in axial length and as a result my visual cortex doesn't know what's what. Other than staring at contrasty text/distant objects and recognising the ghost image and going up in correction, what would you recommend? I went from a -1.75 normalised to -2 to fix the issue but it hasn't helped all that much.

    Nott, To clarify, considering for those with high myopia, using normalized glasses and active focus outdoors for 2-3 hours will help in improving distance vision. (And reduce normalized as necessary) Then, using either no glasses or using differential for close up work on computer/phone with active focus will improve close up vision (And reduce differential strength or move the screen back further) However, with close up vision it is more clear on vision becoming clearer through measuring like you showed, however 1) When it comes to distance vision becoming clearer from using normalized outdoors for 2/3 hours with active focus, it is more difficult to determine when is the right time to get another reduced normalized pair of glasses since the outdoor varies from trees, license plates, signs, people, what do we do to determine when the right time it is to get another 2nd 3rd 4th 5th etc pair of normalized glasses?
