Climbing trees is good defense against a grizzly; they have long fairly straight and dull claws that don't let them grip the bark and are usually too large anyways. Black bears are much smaller however, and have short curved claws that stay sharp to get up trees quickly (usually because a grizzly showed up).

Just remember the three color rules when it comes to bears: 1. If it's brown, stay down. 2. If it's black, get back. 3. If it's white, say goodnight. Because you're dead around a polar bear, no matter what you do.

That just looks like it's having a panic attack.

If its a very LARGE bear, it probably wont climb to get you. Smaller species and juvenile bears can and will chase you upwards.

If you're not sure what type of bear it is, simply climb a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black bear. If the bear knocks the tree over and eats you, it's a brown bear.

I have never seen that many large millipedes in one place at the same time, no strike that I've never seen that many large millipedes in my life. They just won a new housing complex I could never wear them again I'm putting on the next best thing I can wear into a store and buying some new shoes and learning from my mistake.

If you run into a black bear the only way you can MAYBE run away from it is by running dowhill.. they have shorter front legs, it makes it easy for them to go uphill, harder to go down...

If it's black, fight back. If it's brown, lay down. If it's white, say goodnight. Black bears are small enough that they aren't interested in fighting you. Make it clear you won't go quietly, and they'll often back down. Brown bears can destroy you, but typically aren't interested in eating you. Their attacks are territorial. Lay down and submit, and they'll usually leave you alone. Against a polar bear, you're screwed.
