Me too. I feel like such a misfit. I said good morning to my neighbor coworker only for her to make sarcastic good morning remarks to everyone around us and threatening me that that was her being nice. I haven't spoken to her since but the other ladies have also kept their distance from me. I don't know what to do.

As an introvert who went into sales, I appreciate what you are presenting here and will add that introverts and those on the spectrum can develop good ability to listen, which is an important feature of conversation that many forget.

Right on, Ruth. My mother and father owned a real estate firm and two of their best associates were introverts who weren't much for conversation, but they were GREAT listeners and qualifiers and producers! I would venture to say that the ability to listen is one of the most important features of a good salesperson. It's not about convincing a person to buy what he/she doesn't need. It's about LISTENING and discovering the needs of the buyer, and then producing the appropriate product that answers those needs. Notice I said "good" salesperson :)

Lead in lines are memorable. Personal experience. Many years ago I was at a party filled with a certain Industry type people. I was not part of the industry, therefore many found an exit soon after they learned I was an “outsider”, except for one person. After he learned about my job, he said “ Tell me more about that.” He made me feel comfortable and hence after almost 15 years later, I’m talking about that memorable experience. Excellent advice Dan.

I loved your video!! (Especially your “guest” appearances …..fur babies) I, too, was blessed with a father that taught me communication and importantly listening skills. People would come and talk to my dad for hours, and I would barely hear him say a word. I think he just used some of your leading questions then just sat and listened. So many people just don’t have anyone to listen….I mean REALLY listen. I learned early that it is a skill. Sometimes it’s very hard to stay focused on someone else’s problems or other ramblings. Lol But Dad could always do it. I’m sure he could have really benefited from your exit strategies lol Thank you for your very informative videos. I’m new subscriber but looking forward to binging your videos!!

I’ve just found your channel and watched so many videos, thank you! So helpful and valuable! One thing I did want to ask, I’m not sure if you have any content on this already.. some of these tactics I’ve tried actually backfired on me historically. They gave people a confidence boost in speaking with me and inflated their egos rather than respecting me and seeing me as conscientious or an effective communicator, more like I was interested in them/enamoured by them. Where do you think I’ve gone amiss? Asking for their thoughts etc seems in my situations to pass the power to them in the dynamic and people love talking about themselves so much they don’t usually stop to ask you the same in return!

bassist, maybe you went overboard in receiving their comments--especially the suggestions that weren't helpful? Perhaps when they weren't getting the message that you were being respectful, but not implementing their suggestions, you should have engaged as little as possible after that. When you suggest that some people thought you were enamored with them, it tells me you went past "thank you; I'll consider that."

@@TheWizardOfWords thanks so much for your reply! Sorry I was vague, I’d meant in social situations and friendships I usually find that taking interest backfires on me and I sort of become the cheerleader for everybody else. In work scenarios you’re absolutely right, I drop my engagement and seem to manage work relationships better. I find social interactions so daunting because there’s no exchange like work (service for salary) it’s based almost purely on whether people like you or not (or can use you in some way including for attention). Would love a video on this topic!

I just admire you and your work so much, you are an excellent communicator. I would love if you could make a video about how you improved your communication or who taught you and inspired you to improve? I used to be so shy and barely ever talked to anyone all my childhood. But I wanted to improve and I found that reading and writing about my thoughts of what i read helped immensely to improve my communication as well, thank you so much for making such helpful videos
