Domestic A/C motor swap (RV air conditioner)
My RV air conditioner motor is going bad. In this video, I swap out the motor with a new one.
This swap should be able to be done in less than 1 hour from my experience here with this video.

    My air conditioner has been acting up for a while now. I finally figured out it was the motor even though it would work sometimes. I changed out the start capacitor a couple of times before finally getting a new motor

    I have the same motor, exactly the same! Mine is currently doing the same thing where every now and then it works but then it's like the fans stop turning and like if the motor is struggling to run. It's our first time being rv owners so I'm really scared of changing the motor, but this videos gives me confidence to do the change. Great video man really appreciate that

    Hey man really appreciate you putting this up as i have been started having the exact issue, and also the exact air conditioner. Its started off just having a delay when starting or not starting at all. Today it stopped while the unit was running 3X. I was going to replace the capacitor tomorrow but now i will do this first. Thanks again this will save me a lot of guess work, time and money.

    Thanks for this Jay, it was really helpful. We also replaced the capacitor a couple of times before trying the motor, and this video made us feel a lot better about taking a couple of hundred bucks gamble on that. Seems to have done the trick (knocking on wood). I was not able to get that 6-pin connector apart; at one point it felt like I was close to damaging the shell, so I backed out of that plan and just spliced the new wires into the existing harness using wire nuts; there was plenty of room in a cavity inside that gray foam cover to dress up the excess wire neatly.

    I'm thinking it would have been a great time to clean the fins on the condenser, and to clean up both the fan blades and squirrel cage. The interior of yours looks dusty dry, my (s fl) looks dirty rusty, the difference in climate no doubt. I'm about to change motor and capacitor, thanks very much for the video. I guess the foam housing just pulls off, that's what I was specifically looking to find out.

    @@JayRays1truck OK, I got mine replaced. You should if possible try to get the rear fan off, although that screw is going to rusty. There's plenty of room to get to it however. I slipped it out with both of them on, but dinged the evaporator fins a bit. I put the fan into the opening when I put it back together and slid it on the shaft and tightened it up easily. Otherwise, just as Jay says. One guy on another video was concerned about marking the plug halves before separating, but on mine anyway you can't put the thing back together but one way. Cooling quietly once again. Thanks Jay

    Let me ask you folks a question. My unit never shuts off. If I jack the temp up, I can hear the compressor shut off, but the fan NEVER shuts off. • @markruggiero3321

    @markruggiero3321

    @@kirbyratcliff8461 Thanks Kirby, no not on this stat, when you cycle thru the screens, the first screen is fan, pick high or low. Then the next screen is Cool, followed by heat. Whichever fan speed you picked on screen one is applied to the cooling or heating. I hate this control, I think I'm going to off it and get a different style. This one is hard to read unless you're staring directly at it and clearly does a poor job of controlling the fan. Thanks again. EDIT KIRBY YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT, IF YOU CYCLE THE FAN SWITCH PAST HIGH AND LOW THERE IS INDEED AN AUTO SETTING, WHICH DOES EXACTLY WHAT YOU WOULD EXPECT IT TO DO. I'VE HAD THIS TOO LONG NOT TO HAVE FIGURED THIS OUT FOR MYSELF AND I THANK YOU FOR THE POKE! STILL DON'T LIKE IT, BUT AT LEAST IT WORKS AS IT SHOULD.

  • @ElectricBillAlbright

    @ElectricBillAlbright

    The fan selection that says, "on" or "auto" this will turn your fan on continuously wether you have it on "cool" or not on cool. This allows you to use the fan for air circulation and doesn't engage the compressor. The "auto" position will cause the fan to turn on only when the compressor is running. So once the room reaches the set temperature and your compressor shuts off, your fan will shut off also. This is a little bit of an energy saver and it makes things quieter in between cycling the thermostat/compressor. Personally I like to leave the fan running when aircondtioning is set for cooling. Even after the compressor has shut off there still is available cooling in the evaporator core to be used. Otherwise its just going to dissipate and do nothing without air flow. The difference in noise from silence to your air conditioner suddenly starting usually on "high cool" can be annoying and startlingly scary 😨 😳. Another thing by leaving the fan to run, helps dry out moisture on the evaporator fins caused by the temperature differential resulting in condensation. This leads to fin rot causing the aircondtioner to not be efficient as it was. Also, in the event of iceing up the evaporator core, leaving the fan on will de-ice the evaporator leaving a clear airflow path when the compressor cycles back on. You can have an evaporator ice up and not know it, if its not completely iced over. Even on the hottest 🔥 day.
