Thanks SO MUCH!
Today I replaced the motor start and run capacitors on my trailers air conditioner. If your AC motor or fan won't turn on, or it won't stay on, the caps could be the problem. This is a relatively easy job. Here are the caps I used, and a few others you can select from:
Amazon Links:
All PowerWell Caps - geni.us/PowerWellCaps
5uF - geni.us/5uFcaps
7.5uF - geni.us/7_5uFcaps
45+7.5uF - geni.us/45and7_5uFcaps
105-126uF - geni.us/105-126uFcap
88-108uF + Resistor - geni.us/88-108uFcap
Let me know in the comments if you were able to do this repair yourself!

    We replaced an old Dometic in our 36 foot camper (vented). kzread.infoUgkxDDbPbIlwLRcX_ntp51ui5UMtAUGpHYxE The install was a simple swap, all holes lined up, the electric plug back in with no trouble. Getting it on the camper was the most "difficult" part of it, and my friend made it look easy. I've seen people "sled" them up ladders as well though. I watched a KZread video for instructions, very easily done. Some say it doesn't come with instructions, but I found the instructions under the ac in the box. I didn't need them, but they were there.It works well to keep a 36 footer comfortable, all by itself. It doesn't seem to be any quieter than the original, but it isn't any louder either. We're very pleased with it. Esp with the ease of swapping them out.

    Great video. Only one questions, maybe all you needed was the fan capacitor? I will have to look up directions on how to diagnose the fan capacitor. My Rockford 5th Wheel has same ac unit. My ac will not start until I go up on roof and spin the fan. Then compressor comes on and life is good. But when the temp is reached and AC turns off I have to repeat the process. I'm thinking in my case all I need is the fan capacitor but without knowing how to diagnose each individual piece It's a crap shoot.

  • @DansWay

    @DansWay

    Жыл бұрын

    You are correct, the fan capacitor is very likely the culprit in your case. My suggestion, however is that if your air conditioner is more than five years old, you could go ahead and replace all the capacitors while you have it all apart. I found the compressor ran substantially smoother, and start up was, much better as well after replacing the compressor motor caps when I did. The ‘Chugging’ sound went away completely.

    Your video was stellar for helping us diagnose! THANK YOU! However, I'm having trouble finding a 45/12uf/370 capacitor for our 2005 Carrier A/C. (Yes, ancient, but up until a few weeks ago, it was running like a champ! Now it hums, but the fan won't kick over.) Capacitors are much cheaper than a whole new unit, so wondering how we go about replacing this. We opened her up and discovered the capacitor is a combo, so it has the three ports on top. The closest replacement I found on Amazon was a 45/10. Will that suffice? Any thoughts or help would be appreciated! Thanks!

    @@the2youngs you can get a 45uF cap and a 12uF cap. The wires going to the COM or common terminal of the existing capacitor would be split between the two new caps. The pairs of wires 'should' make it obvious which wires go to each cap. The motor-start for motor-run functions for example. I would start with the 45/10uF cap you found and if it works, then your done.

    If you start it on high then switch to low, does it completely stop or sorta slow down making noise? If it just stops dead it sounds more like an electrical issue, like a broken wire or bad relay in the controller. Doesn’t hurt to replace caps on the motor and compressor after 20 years. First issue was motor would hum and not spin when on, had the start capacitor fail. Ordered one, but it had the wrong MFD (higher than what it came with) but installed anyway. AC worked for about a month. Issue reoccured suddenly, motor was running and then stopped (same issue as before). Replaced start capacitor with proper one, didn't work. Compressor turns on no issue, just the fan motor doesn't. I've now ordered the run capacitor and the relay, think that'll do it?

Then started failing again, it would stop while running, like if it wasn’t getting enough power, or like when a camel is lose and doesn’t make good contact. I cleaned it again and this time I washed it as best as I could. It worked fine for a day, but today it started doing the same thing. Starts then loses power and goes off. Do you think that’s the capacitor related issue?

    When we first bought our 5th wheel we noticed that nothing other than the fan would turn on. You had to turn it to cold and basically walk away. I understand these things have a delay but my times ranged from instant to up to 30 minutes before the compressor would start. Haven't fixed that yet but now last year the fan started acting up. Acting like it wasn't getting enough power, I had to take the inside cover off and give it a spin and then it would take off an go. Fast forward to now. Still have to give the fan a good spin before it takes off and goes but then after about 10 minutes the fan shuts down. I believe I still hear the compressor running. Is that something to do with the run capacitors? I bought all 3. Going to change them out tomorrow. I just keep thinking maybe the fan itself is bad and drawing too much and something shuts it down.

  • @DansWay

    @DansWay

    2 жыл бұрын

    YES! These are all the symptoms of the run and start capacitors failing. Let me know how it works after replacing them. I can't explain the 30-minute startup time, but perhaps that will change as well. If you still have the 30-minute delay, check to see if the thermostat is giving a proper signal to engage the AC.

Just did it whenever it felt like it but always would finally go. But now last fall and this summer I'm having this issue with the fan. Last fall I got it going by giving it a spin and it would run all day. This year when trying that, everything shuts down after 10 minutes or so and locks itself out. Have to wait about 5 to 10 minutes before the fan starts humming again. Give it a spin and it would take off. 5 to 10 minutes it will trip again. So far been hearing the fan drawing too much power, low volts, or bad capacitors. Guess we will find out tomorrow morning.
