    We redid every room in an acreage that was run down. Built a few solar heaters on the secondary structures, and this year, it's all about making one of the structures into a workshop. This weekend i'm tearing out a section of wall to put in a 9' garage door. We'll see how that goes!

    Those ground rods can be installed by hand by moving them up and down and using water to soften the soil in the hole doing it should take about 30 seconds to 1 minute

    Hi Reece. Your videos are very well done. One question... I see that the bottom edge of the panels is very close to your gutter. During a heavy rain, do you notice that the momentum of the water flow goes over the gutter? At the top, it looks like you could have gone a little higher (made the top edge level with the top of the roof; or even past that). If you had it to do again, would you install the panels a few inches higher?

  • @FrugalRepair

    @FrugalRepair

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks! No, the rain goes into the gutter. I’ve been happy with the placement. I only had a few inches of wiggle room on either side so I doubt it would have made much of a difference. I didn’t want to go over the ridge because then I’d worry about wind gusts, even though the panels would probably be fine.

    I don’t have any batteries connected to the system. Net metering is the reason why I don’t. If you check out the “is solar worth it” video I explain the credits I get from the net metering agreement with the power company. In PA here you get a 1-1 credit for each KWH you send back to the grid.

    Great video. One comment. It looks like you put your 8 foot ground rod in at about a 45 degree angle, which is only 4 feet deep into the ground. By code, that deviation is only allowed to be done if you have rocks preventing installing the rod at 90 degrees (perpendicular). At the 45 degree angle and height, you can hit it pretty easy with a sledge hammer and it will go in fairly easy, instead of needing the large hammer drill.

  • @FrugalRepair

    @FrugalRepair

    Thanks! My electrician set up the rods for me to drive in and the electrical inspector passed it so I guess maybe it’s standard practice around here where there is a ton of rock.

    Putting an 8' rod into the ground at a 45 degree angle would put it 5.65' deep into the ground 8*sin(45)
