Hi Elvis, that gets me just saying your name!!! You and I seem to be of the same mindset, as I'm delving into Solar with the Bluetti AC300 with 2 batteries etc. And I'm studying panels/ connections, total watts/volts to maintain a charge on my Solar generator set up. It's a lot to take in, and I'd rather spend a bit of time up front and get the RIGHT EQUIPMENT NOW, rather than back step and but it later and waste $$$ So i guess I'm using my cents (sense) to save dollars later. Like you gas powered equipment is OK but has so so many drawbacks. Thanks again for your time and info.

Nice demonstration. My DIY system is pretty small, 7 panels in parallel, for a 1400 Watt total. I can't find a video where you can size up the wire. Is it possible using only connectors or do I need a junction box to switch wire size?

Should have mentioned it's very important to put the right connection on if your playing around with the solar panel wires. For extension cables it doesn't matter because the solar panel dictates what is positive and negative.

I am a bit confused. On the solar calculators online it is recommending me to use 6awg wire from the panels to the inverter because of the long distance the panels are from the house. It looks like mc4 connectors only use 10 to 14awg wire. I purchased some branch connectors but now I’m wonder will my cable fit on the other side of the branch connectors with them being 6awg. Why would they recommend a big size like that if I am not able to connect them to mc4 connectors, it just doesn’t make sense. Am I missing something?

You can’t go wrong just start collecting solar panels, solar generators, battery banks, things that will help you when things go wrong. Some of this stuff will become harder to get. We buy insurance to ensure against unforeseen damage, this is no different. Research and ask questions.I’d be glad to help if I can.. 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏✌️

Thanks Elvis I was thinking this unit would handle the whole house. But as I have been researching basic wat usage. I have come to the reality this unit is a companion unit for say something in the 9000 wattage range. However once I get the 9000 watt unit I’m going to pick this unit up for everything else. I wish there was a Solar unit that could produce 9000 watts. Similar to the generator inverter units

Please double check your cable genders. The gender is based on the conducting pin, not the insulating housing. So, even though the outside looks male, the pin itself is female, so these labels are backwards. This could lead to a lot of misunderstandings.

Yup. This is confusing about MC4 connectors. The male looking connector actually has the female internal pin, so the entire connector is considered female, and the larger connector that looks like it should be female has the male internal pin and is considered male

  • @i_know_nothing7788

You have been taught to solder and can do it for use in high vibration environments and thus know there is no provision in mc4 for physical restraint. So you can't solder MC4s to meet professional standards.

So Elvis is holding a female connect and naming it a male connector. He is fooled because it has a sticking out plastic part that goes into the other connector. It reminds him of something and so is called male. Whereas the sex of a connector is determined by the inserts (metal bits). It is a good idea to use the same naming convention as the rest of industry.

I'm not sure I'd take much advice from a guy who doesn't know the difference between a male and female terminators The male Terminator goes into the female housing and the female Terminator goes into the mail outer housing.. Oh and your philosophy on photovoltaic is also wrong. solar is a viable option for running your entire house. I live on a 40 acre ranch, my house and my 5000 ft² workshop are all solar powered. The workshops got two tons of air conditioning in it as does the house.. All run on DC mini-splits.. My well pump even runs off its own solar installation.. The ranch is completely off grid. And I produce more power than I can use. I would love to sell the surplus back to the grid.
