NO ICE....After the repair man had been out twice and not fixed my ice maker I decided to figure it out myself. No Mr. repair man I didn't put the filter in wrong, it was a design defect that the wires broke from opening and closing the door. Your video gives me the confidence to take care of my home and small repair jobs, while saving money.

just one thing to add regarding heat shrink tubing. There are 2 types, adhesive and non-adhesive. The non-adhesive ones are not suitable for high moisture environments. Moisture will actually wick inside the tubing and corrode the wires quite fast. The adhesive type on the other hand is extremely good for preventing corrosion. They also tend to be double walled and have a 3:1 shrink ratio.

Great video! I've never replaced any kind of electrical wiring before, but I just replaced a defrost thermostat in my 20-year-old refrigerator. Thanks to this excellent video, I was able to connect the new thermostat's wires to the refrigerator's wires using a red butt connector and electrical tape. The main takeaways that I learned are: - what a correct crimp looks like (I practiced on the old part several times before I tried it for real) - be sure not to strip some of the copper wires (thanks for showing that -- I never would've thought to look) - pull on each end to ensure that the wires are secured in the connector I credit this video for helping a first-timer successfully repair her fridge. Thank you!

Great video. I was taught to melt a little solder onto the soldering iron tip before placing it under the twisted wires. The little molten solder lump greatly increases the conduction of heat from the tip to the joint. With the tip contacting the underside of the joint, the rising heat will rapidly heat the whole joint. Then, add your rosin-core solder to the top. It will melt right into the hot joint almost immediately.

Ok so, super gratitude. Feeling clever, might delete later. Headlight socket replacement, in place (tight space) on a 98 Infitniti QX4. After several moments of frustration, this video came through in the clutch. I kept wasting connectors with failed crimps. After watching, I slid a parallel connector onto the car's wire, weaved the wires together ala the solder section, then slid the connector over the wires and crimped with a needle nose pliers adjacent to the wire cutter area which mimics a crimp pretty decent. Electrical tape over the 3 individual wires, then back into the sheath and electrical tape over that. I am please with myself and yall are probably the only people that care LOL. Thank you for reading. I no longer have to pop the hood and jiggle the wire to make my headlight work. PEACE!

Thanks! I wanted to extend the clip leads on my car battery charger, so used the inter-weave method to splice on the new lengths. It worked, but the main problem was my soldering irons are so old that it must have taken 4 - 5 minutes to start heating the wire & melt the solder. Trying to hold the tip steady against the joint that long meant it pushed it a few times and some of the strands started to splay out, leaving UGLY joints! I reckon I need a new/faster iron! The other thing I realised is that I'd trimmed both sets of wires to the same length, meaning the joints were adjacent with a risk of touching if the heat-shrink wore through. The joints are fine but I may redo them sometime and offset them a bit.
