Hey Zack, Perhaps you should throw a annotation in there on your tax credit/savings stating that ‘most’ people won’t actually save 26% or more due to the fact they’re in a much much lower tax bracket... and that they‘ll most likely save somewhere in the neighborhood of $500-1000 if they make up to 100k a year... Edit: that being even IF they’re lucky enough to be in a place that offers said credit...

Unfortunately in most places, where electricity from solar is actually useful, global warming has screwed it up. I live in pakistan, and during summers we get such bad winds that they are able to rip the panels off the roof. Lost 6 panels from an 8 panel setup already.

@@xaviercopeland2789 And if you were to actually use batteries in a similar system plus use it long term over the years and recycle said batteries when they are no longer useful you will have offset the damage to the environment by not burning as much fossil fuels over that period of years. Please stop it with the narrowminded arguments. They are borderline dishonest at this point. Its a complex calculation, let us treat it as such and stop trying to stop people from doing anything at all just because you are too lazy to do the actual math on this. How much less fossil fuels you think will be burned over the 6 to 8 years LiFePO batteries last on a system like this? Easy answer: the savings completely offset the fossil fuels used to create the batteries needed for such a system and then go on to easily save the same amount more than twice before needing to be replaced. (If you are diligent in the management of the batteries and never let them drain entirely each day they can last up to 10 years.) It's a lot of less fossil fuel burned and if the grid ever goes down you won't even notice it.

Inflation will make energy cost rise as well. So the cost of purchase decreases proportionally as the price of energy inflates. That’s one thing Jerry didn’t mention, nor can he really calculate that anyway, his savings will be much larger after 10-20 years than he will anticipate.

Probably the only cost effective way to setup solar panels. Great job! After those 6 years it’s all savings. Off grid would work too as long as you have a very small battery bank or no battery bank but that means no ac at night only small appliances. Batteries are just not there yet, they don’t last long enough before you have to replace them and it’s a big bill

Look into LTO cells. They cost a good bit more up front than other chemistries, but last ~20,000 charge-discharge cycles or 25 years before they degrade to 80%, so a similar lifespan as the panels. Because they last so much longer the cost over time is far lower. They're also the safest chemistry in terms of not burning your house down. Can charge and discharge rapidly for faster charging your electric vehicle for the rest of your life, oh yeah and they're fine between -40C to 60C.
