@@Emilythefurry unfortunately, most people do not understand the pain unless were to live it and at the time they do, they would realize the struggles. Remember, you are tougher than most people and I bet you no one can live a day in your shoes. One thing I tell myself is: what other people think of you is not your problem, it is theirs. You are strong and beautiful.

hi, if you have strabismus you may relate to some of this. i’ve had strabismus since i was a baby and got an eye surgery when i was 2, i am now 13. i have gotten made fun of so much in the past 3 years to the point where i didn’t even want to leave my house. i just want everybody to know that you are perfect the way you are. do not ever let anybody tell you different. never compare yourself to anybody else.

I also had a few surgeries as a child they no longer wanted to perform any more surgeries because there was too much scarring but I’m 23 now I always feel like everyone still notices my lazy eyes but it might just be me because I stare at my eyes too often . I have more scarring on my left eye

I was born with strabismus in both eyes and had the surgery in 1993 at 8years old. My eye still turns in when I FaceTime family or friends and a lot in pictures. I’ve been thinking about doing it again if needed. My daughter has it as well and my husband and I did her surgery when she was 4! The best part of that decision was that she didn’t loose any vision. Which I couldn’t be more grateful for. LOVE YOUR EYES and YOURSELF.

I posted a TikTok which only my friends were supposed to see, really. It got pushed into a lot of people’s fyp and ended up with almost 30k views. It all happened so fast but I got dozens and dozens of comment about my eye and my overbite, even the people saying I was pretty admitted they were doing it out of pity, which I clearly don’t need, I’ve had partners in the past, I have an actual baby, clearly not everyone thinks I’m unattractive! My surgery was supposed to be about 2 years ago but I was pregnant and then the panini happened 😂 So it’s got worse and worse but I just learned yesterday that I’m getting my surgery in a couple of weeks!! Thank you for the info, and for the confidence boost, it’s really gonna help 🥳

Thank you so much for this story of your lazy eye. I am 42 years old and just got the lazy eye surgery last week. Honestly I know a lot of people get negative comments about it but mine was not that noticeable. Growing up I remember getting pain in my left upper nose that would literally debilitate me. Went to numerous ENTs and told me sinus infection after sinus infection. I popped so many Tylenol Excedrin Advil over the years and I developed reflux not to mention arthritis of the knees because of all my falling on the stairs which I got made fun of for. Finally, back in 2015 an ENT tells me you have been on rounds of antibiotics and your MRI on your sinuses is normal. He told me that my pain was migraines and it just started in that area. So I went to a neurologist who put me on medicine but they kept upping the dosage because the migraines kept coming back. Well one afternoon I felt very tired and and drove home despite the way I was feeling with my son and husband in the car and I crashed the car into a parked car(I am not sure what exactly happened but I guess the tiredness of the eyes played a big part of it) I never went back to that neurologist again and of course just continued to pop pills when I needed it. August of 2019 I went to a new eye doctor which I haven’t had a checkup in years and told her I had trouble driving at night and she said you know you have trouble coordinating your eyes you might want to see a pediatic Optomology to see about surgery to help you if the new glasses doesn’t help. I tried new glasses but my migraines started getting worse in fact every day I would have one and they wouldn’t go away. I went to another neurologist and she suggested me seeing a sleep doctor and noticed my blood pressure was super high. I went on medication and felt better with the migraines but still got them so I went to the pediatric eye doctor and he examined me and said How you don’t get headaches everyday really surprises him. I finally got the answer for the cause of this excruciating pain I have been experiencing my whole life. I finally did the surgery because of COVID it took longer. The one thing I am hoping for that I don’t suffer with the migraines anymore. Thank you for sharing your journey. Unfortunately, lazy eye is inherited and my son is next to get the surgery. His lazy eye is very noticeable but I don’t want him to go through the pain that I have.

I decided to get the surgery not for cosmetic reasons but because I was struggling to see with and without glasses. I had prism in my lenses but that just didn't seem to work. Eye therapy didn't work either so my only option was surgery. It started to be dangerous whenever I would drive because I honestly didn't know which road I was on because I would see two. I finally received surgery on July 15, 2021. Surgery was definitely a success and I see straight now.

It definitely is a very sensitive and emotional topic for me. I am getting better at accepting it and opening up more about it to people that knew I had surgery (it amazes me how many people didn’t notice it, and yet it was my biggest insecurity and fear of talking to people). And what you said about family, and strangers making bullying comments, I can relate to that, but thank you for reminding me and others that it is a reflection of them and not you!! 💓 At the end of the day I feel happy with my decision and if there is any person who is considering this surgery I would suggest to look into it and make the decision is best for them also. 💓 💓thank you, thank you!!

I had both eyes done 3 days ago. Perfect result! No double vision at all! I am not having actual pain but very uncomfortable with that gritty feeling in my eyes and light sensitivity. It does hurt a little bit to look to each side so I am avoiding that. I don’t feel like driving. I am 76 years old and I have had strabismus all my life but it was corrected enough with prisms until recently when the prism strength needed was too great so I decided to have the surgery. It was done conventionally, not with adjustable sutures, and to my absolute amazement I did not see double immediately after waking up from anesthesia. It’s very hard for me to adjust to not reaching for glasses immediately and waking up in the morning because if I didn’t have my glasses on before I couldn’t negotiate walking to the bathroom Without bumping into the doorway or just walking with my eyes closed which I could do easily. I’m sure those of you who are reading those who have strabismus understand. Good luck to everyone reading this who is about to have the surgery. Don’t be scared. It was not the terrible experience I thought it might be.

Also did you know that the giant pacific octopus uses one predominant eye? We're kind of like octopuses (which are actually really awesome) 🐙💖

I learned a lot from this video thank you for sharing. I don’t have a lazy eye but I used to think I did and then I realized what I actually had was a droopy eyelid. Im always paying attention to it in photos and trying to figure out ways to make it look less droopy. Like for example I curl that eyelash a lot more and I make my eyeshadow on that eye higher. I had surgery for my lazy eye 2 days ago, and so far it is looking straight and does not go to the side anymore, although the healing process is painful, i would say its worth it. My eye doctor said it will not affect vision and does not help your vision if your lazy eye does affect your vision, and it is purely just for looks. I got the surgery because of bullying and because it is my biggest insecurity, I still have to wait about a week to see if it has worked, but it has a very low risk chance and is a very common surgery, and perfectly safe. I recommend it of course only if you want to get it, and only if you think it effect your life a lot, as i said it is not a vision surgery, it is just to make your eye look straight.

I developed a lazy eye when I was young, but fixed the appearance of it through surgery also. My right eye was always looking at my nose. My best advice when someone is looking at you funny is tell them which eye to look at. The reason why we evolved to have white around our pupils is because we trust someone more when we know what they're looking at. This is the importance of why you should let someone know how to tell where you are looking. Helped me a lot before the surgery. Otherwise, people trust you less if they don't know where you're looking.

I don't comment on videos but I searched for a strabismus video and yours showed up. I've had my surgery at a young age of around 7-8 years. It worked then maybe but years later I noticed that I could go back to lazy eye on my own. I mean I don't know what it was but it seemed that if I don't do that movement my eyes would look normal. So I just let my eyes be normal and didn't tell anyone that i can make them look lazy. They looked totally fine until now. Now when my College has started and online classes are going on, all the assignments that I'm supposed to do online, because of that I've noticed that my eyes are visibly lazy to some extent. Without even me controlling or doing it deliberately. I feel all the online stuff for days are doing this to my eyes. and this is feeling like a helpless situation since I've to take classes but also my eyes are having this problem more and more visible. Which makes me cry now and then. And realising after watching your video that I've got to live with it and lasic is an off the table option, it breaks my heart. It would be the toughest thing for me to accept myself this way. I would definitely want you to talk more about this if you are comfortable because that way I would look up to you and try to accept it like you.

I appreciate you doing these videos. I watched your previous video talking about your pre/post op. I had surgery at about a year old. In the last few years I feel like it is harder to focus when I look at people. So much more brain power! I saw a doctor recently who is a plastic surgeon ophthalmologist. He said he would be conservative and need to do the muscles on both eyes. I know each situation is different. Were you ever suggested that both eyes would need to have muscle work? Originally my first surgery was on the left eye. I have thought about a second opinion. I like how you suggest that too. I was never told if need another surgery so hearing this now makes me feel a little better. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

The end of January this year (2021) I started contraception after having my second child, in June I started noticing my right eye going blurry and then in July my eye doctor said I have slight esotropia. It didn't occur to me untill now that it might be since starting contraception as blurry eyes and vision loss can be a side effect. Could taking contraception (the pill) be the reason for this? I have never had eye problems growing up. I am a healthy 27 year old.

I wasn't born with it. Aged 5 I had an accident to the eye and it caused it. Had two surgeries and none worked. I hate my eyes. Bullied as a child and now stared at as an adult.

You are beautiful with or without the lazy eye. Though if something bothers you & it’s treatable, why not fix it.

I have double vision in my right eye. Would the surgery take away the double vision in that eye?

I’ve had strabismus since I was a toddler. I’m 23 now and I wish my mom let me have the surgery as a child. My glasses straighten my eye but I hope it’s not too late for me to get the surgery

I was born premie too and have ROP and a lazy eye but lucky for me i guess I only "focus" with 1 eye at a time so I use my lazy eye to mask it's lazy ness but it makes my other eye go in a little I'm 31 could have had the surgery years ago but i learned to not care what others think . Because in my mind everyone is a nobody so Their comments don't bother me

I have the surgery in 6-7 hrs. I’m sacred and watched ur last video. I have to do it because the lazy eye is impacting my vision (not just for the looks. I see 2 images of everything. I’m 18 and haven’t learnt how to drive because of it, can’t do normal things like pay attention in class properly. I just hope this goes well. I’m scared ngl.
